So my question, why did Wasim Khan fire Mickey after the World Cup?

I think Arthur deserves credit.

Guys like Babar, Fakhar, and Shadab were nurtured under him.

So my question, why did Wasim Khan fire Mickey after the World Cup?

The order apparently came from the PM Imran Khan's office. Arthur has mentioned a few times that he was assured by the PCB Cricket Committee at the time of being given a fresh 2-3 year extension and was very surprised, shocked to find out about not being given a fresh contract at the end.

It's basically true. Mickey would have nurtured Abdullah Shafique the same way, and some others.

Babar would have always risen to the top because along with the talent, he has the drive which is what makes great players.

However without Mickey and under Misbah, he would have taken a few more years to do it. When he debuted under Misbah, he was pushed further and further down the order. It was Mickey who put him up the order. And Misbah dropped him from Islamabad in PSL without a proper chance and he went to Karachi where Mickey have him chances.

Remember Misbah was also the one on tv complaining about Shaheen being part of the 2019 World Cup… right before Shaheen became our best bowler in the tournament.

Mickey and Inzi era was one of the best for Pakistan cricket. After the dark days of Misbah-Waqar 1.0, it was a breath of fresh air.

Focus on fitness, selecting and backing younger players, winning the CT. Big highlights of their era.

They are responsible for developing the core of Pakistan cricket that we see today. Pakistan cricket saw an upward trend since their era. Our team has gotten competitive, and we feel confident against any team.

Thank you misbah for your resignation! Hope he stays out of cricket and does something with his degree ..

Mickey was not the best around but he was 100 times better in white ball cricket than what Pakistan have now. If he was around now , Pakistan would have been a strong force in white ball.

That's not actually a Wasim Khan tweet or account, is it? Don't see the "verified" tick, and the lack of spacing and miscapitlization seems very unlike him.

Let me correct you here.

He debuted under misbah when the top order was stacked with and younis. Every player that comes to pakistan team has to start from lower.

Misbah dropped him from isb team because babar was not ready for t20 at that time. He got out twice to pace bowling, shaun tait made him look bad. Misbah dropped him and his team won the psl that year. Isb had khalid latif before he was caught spot fixing, so having him and babar both were not vital.

Misbah moved babar and got another player in return in form of iftikhar.

In franchise leagues you trade players that dont adjust to your combination. It doesnt mean player is bad you just see what you have and what you need and what assets you use to make trade.

As for shaheen, misbah said he was abit reluctant because shaheen doesnt pitch the ball in the right areas in odis and at that time shaheen was unproven. Misbah gave his views as a pundit. Anyways, shaheen improved and did well in the world cup. Now in hindsight misbah views seem different, but misbah was judging shaheen on the basis of performance prior to the world cup which he was spot on.

Agreed. And your clear post states that Misbah has no eye for talent and makes judgment based on historical data points only as he did for Shaheen (2019 WC) and Babar (PSL). He lacks foresight.

Great decision makers and leaders don't just rely on historical data points but also have the ability to predict the future.

Mickey is good in nurturing the young talent. As long as the team is composed of juniors, he is fine. He doesn't seem to work well with experienced guys anywhere.

Not a coach who would win you a wc but one that could help you develop young talent.

Really good at sowing the seeds and very initial nurturing but, for final crop development and extracting it at the right time teams usually have to rely upon someone else. Gave Srl a new shape bringing in some solid young players but, Silverwood is looking more capable to extract the results as he has shown in last couple of months. Same thing happened with Pak where he alongside PSL was able to bring in some good young players but, results other than CT 17 didn't exactly come at that time as was expected.

A really solid coach to have during transition phase and for a young team. Once your team has passed that phase then as per his current record you usually have to find someone who can take the team to the next level.

Then he should be the assistant coach!

Then he should be the assistant coach!

Should ideally be the u19 and A team head coach plus NCA head. Or should be the director of entire domestic cricket. But these posts would only work in a well organized setup where there isn't outside interference etc.

a coach like mickey arthur suits passionate sides like pakistan and south africa...

PCB rarely rewards the deserving coaches.

In any case, full credit to Micky Arthur. His tenure was exciting!!

Success has many fathers while failure is an orphan. What about the other 10 that he couldn't develop. Babar is just one name and that too a household prodigy way before Wasim Khan or Mickey Arthur. Attributing his success to MA is an insult to all of Pakistan's cricket culture, structures and persons that influenced and supported Babar to get to this level. If MA was so successful we would've seen an XI of Babar Azams.

You basically endorsed the point that Misbah has no eye for talent, well done.

To be honest, when Babar came into the show, he had issues. Yes he has been working with pcb since age 14 but babar was no where near a complete product as he coudlnt face pace bowling that was 140+

Mick arthur probably did work on him and improved him as a batter.

This is why Mickey is good as someone who is more of an assistant or batting coach. As a head coach he has no idea how to make strategies

You basically failed to comprehend the post. Not surprised
A post making a bunch of excuses and endorsing the point that Misbah is a short-sighted individual with no eye for talent? The guy may have understood Test cricket well, but he was well out of his depth in LOI cricket sorry to say.

Mickey was instrumental in giving Babar confidence. The fact that Babar failed horribly in the early phase of his Test career, yet Mickey persisted with him at the same spot. That counts for something. Misbah would have chucked him out for Iftikhar Ahmed, who is not even fit to tie Babar’s shoelaces.
