Sarfraz Quotes :

We have no pressure on ourselves and we have told the players to play their natural game

I have told the players to concentrate on cricket and their own performance and not worry about the hype of this game

Anyone who performs in these games can become a hero

Everyone has their own opinions and Shahid Afridi has said what he feels is right that on paper, the India team is stronger

Whoever plays well on that day wins

Both teams will prefer to play in sunny conditions as both teams are from Asia and they prefer sunny weather

Virat Kohli's wicket will be very important and we will do our best to get him out to get them on the backfoot

Shoaib and Hafeez have a lot of experience of playing such tournaments and they have spoken to the boys about it

Also for me as a captain, this is the first tournament so even I have consulted with them

Junaid has been performing well but in terms of combination for this tournament, we need a pace bowler in the middle overs

It wasnt an easy decision but in trying to get best combination, we have to sit out good players also

What a defeatist attitude. Is Pakistan the underdog who is expected to lose?

Good stuff from Sarfaraz letting all the fans know not to have any expectations from the team.. Saving you all a heartache..

He just has to say something , dont boil your blood over a few statements.

Its minnows vs number 3 team. Chill out guys.

Hope new plans work out well.

It would be a rain-truncated match. Hope we bowl first

Current generation has got used to phainty from India. It's not going to hurt anymore. So no pressure to win.

From the days of Imran, Miandad, Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar to " We are expected to lose so no pressure on us "

How low the standards have fallen.

Mashrafe Mortaza has more confidence in his team than the current Pakistani Captain.

Why this kind of defeatist attitude?! If you have this attitude, don't play the game. Let others do the job. Such a loser

I have seen his last small interviews and he has said this thing there too. From that he tries to emphasize that we dont have any pressure and we will not play with any pressure.

And frankly Pakistan have lost big matches against India in past because we couldnt handle big match pressure even when we had better teams.

Exactly! This is terrible attitude. If you lose, at least you can lose fighting.

Ppl reading too much in to it. I don't mind the candor to be honest. It's something different

These men fully expect to win and are 5000000000000000% sure, Sarfraz taking pressure of his team much like Khan did with his WWF comment during the 2009 T20 tournament. I am 500000000000000% sure Pakistan are going to win.

Love these mind games from Sarfraz top top stuff, this game is already won there is no doubt in my mind. It's a bit like every Tyson opponent before they even stepped in the ring they were gone, we are the favourites to win this; ya"ll are in for a shock

Seems like sarfaraz happen to glance over PP and found out about how he has to make India his ''doormat', So want to calm down some over enthusiastic ones. :)))

This guy made the comment recently that India is scared of Pakistan. Now he is coming up with excuse before the game that India is way better.

Appropriate comments. He should really bring down the expectation levels of the nation. All the media hype, unnecessary excitement and buildup is only setting up for massive disappointment. People are still thinking that we are a competitive team, but truth is that Pakistan is severely deficient in terms of talent and skills. All those high profile drubbing should have already driven the message home. It's embarrassing by now how stupidly we keep hyping this minnow team and then look for cover when they get inevitable thrashing. You should really tune into post match talk shows after every such loss.

It's best to be realistic.

Rankings are irrelevant when it comes to indo pak clashes otherwise how do you explain India giving a phainty to a much superior pak team in world cups during 90s.

Just because Pakistan is no.8 ranked side, you cannot assume Pak fans will not mind losing to India. Pressure of playing your arch rival trumps everything.

from this logic we could have never win 2009 t20 world cup pakistan is unpredictable team and can

surprise any team

from this logic we could have never win 2009 t20 world cup pakistan is unpredictable team and can

surprise any team

Which logic exactly did you find in my post that goes against 2009 win?

Well if you think now, our 2009 team had several matchwinners. Amir v. 2009, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Shahid Afridi etc. And we were finalists in previous version of WC. This team is hopeless and I'm just saying it's unfair to be expecting them to give competetion to one of the favorites of the tournament.

in 2009 we were not favorites and at one stage we were almost knockout of that

tournament and that team Was consider weak and not favorites and same applies for today

we are always underdog and have perform when there is no expectation

Looks like Sarfraz will be worse than Azhar and be happy to rank 8 or come down to 10.
Basically what is saying not to waste our time to watch tomorrows match. Great and super brave captain. Save our time and tension.
Congratulation India!!!!

To be honest I dont understand what you guys are saying, Sarfaraz has just stated the fact that team is in no 8 and its not a lie. He has already said that we are going to give our all in the field, we have some new plans for India, so what more do you guys expect. Should he be saying we are going to beat India tomorrow? I guess rather than saying such things focus should be on the preparation, neither he is an astrologist or something else to predict it. He is saying that pressure will be on India and he is right about this as well, India is currently ranked higher and are the favorites to win the match. He definitely wants to improve the ranking but by saying that we are already ranked 8th which is already quite low he is just eliminating the fear of losing from the mindset of our players.

Excellent from Sarfraz. No pressure so that most of them will play their natural game instead of having a ********* when things get difficult.

What's so bad? He stated the truth and also made sure that Pak will give their 100%. Most important of all: they will be executing their plans without any extra added pressure.

Very good and mature comments from Sarfraz

He is giving respect to the opposition but also has a plan to beat them.

I agree Sarfraz hasn't really said anything wrong here. Only delusional Pakistan fans will think that we aren't anything other than massive underdogs. Just look at our two opening batsmen for God's sake. If they get out we lose. If they stay in we lose. At least with Sharjeel in the team there was a chance he would come off.

Actually I would recommend posters to go watch the press conference itself. Journalist after journalist kept harping about pressure pressure pressure, and eventually Sarfaraz said well we are number 8 and can't go any lower than that, if we lose it may not impact our rankings a great deal and if we win it may effect their rankings.

I Too think Sarfraz would be worse than Azhar. Sarfraz has a special love for TTFs

nice of sarfraz to bring a few over excited fans back to earth. Need to face the realities here: we really are the underdogs in this match

Sarafaraz will be a better captain than Azhar even if he just shows up and doesn't do anything. That's how bad Azhar was. I think you are forgetting how often Azhar lost matches from winning positions. 99/6 NZ and they end up scoring 280 odd. Forgot already?

What a defeatist attitude. Is Pakistan the underdog who is expected to lose?

He is doing the right thing.
Just need the boys to play freely so say what's needed to transfer the pressure to the Indians

Brilliant comments from Sarfaraz and i would never associate brilliance with pakistani comments, unless it were really worthy. This is a good way of deflecting pressure from Pakistan, its not as if they are going to play extraordinarily if the captain makes a few flamboyant statements, instead he chose to be realistic and look for an opportunity to pull the rug from under the feet of our team's slightest folly and i feel its their best chance. Too much of a gulf between the two sides specially considering the form Indian bowlers are at the moment.

"We are ranked 8 and all the pressure is on India" : Sarfraz Ahmed

I don't like this 'nothing to lose' mentality. It's like admitting that they are better and we are relying on them to make mistakes because of pressure.

Nice way to put pressure on kohli and co. In his heart sarfaraz knows that Indians will get a thrashing tomorrow so he is preparing ground to troll them even more after tomorrow's game.

"We are 8th, and that is for one reason only, we are hopeless," was the true translation

What a quote from the fighting captain???!! LOL Spoken like a true minnow - pathetic and totally lacking self belief but at least he has insight

Win or lose tomorrow - doesn't matter! Show some heart, sensible (not over the top) optimism and do your best whatever the result

Smart comments by Sarfaraz. It doesn't matter whether pakistan is ranked at 8 or 2 Indo Pak matches always start at 50-50.

No one can say for sure but facts are there. Pakistan has 100% loss record in world cup games and Indians themselves have been shouting that Pakistan are fixers since that time. Can't have it both ways.

90's was an era of rampant fixing, Indians were involved with captain involved, SA captain was involved, Pakistan captain and most of the team was involved (Justice Wayyyum report), Shane warne and Mark Waugh approach saga.. With the media not as prevalent as today and with corruption/underworld politician nexus at the height in India and Pakistan fixing was rampant in 90's..

No one but the people involved knows which matches were fixed and which players were involved but fixing did happen.

But we all know that Pakistan has a 100% loss record even when they had a strong team, often that came right after BCCI offered some sweeteners to our board promising this tour and that tour which they usually backed out of after the event.

Anyway, no one is saying that these matches were thrown, just giving the facts. Pakistan keep losing these big games without fail, and Pakistan has had more players banned for fixing than any other country. Everyone can draw their own conclusions. Maybe India just NEVER has a bad day, and Pakistan are just unlucky EVERY time. 100%.

I can see what he was trying to do, but ended up calling Pakistan minnows. Poor attitude.

Mind games from Sarfraz , No doubt in the fact that Indian team is by far the favourite going into the match but our boys are pulling this off tomorrow

Syed1 my bad, But Sarfraz and co also screwed up in first odi against WI. Sarfraz is new to international captaincy, I hope he gets rid of Hafeez and Azhar as soon as possible.

I can see what he was trying to do, but ended up calling Pakistan minnows. Poor attitude.

The team we have for CT should not play ahead of WI and deserve to play against B teams of top 5 teams. India should rest some of the key players

Excellent. Put all the pressure on India. Should've also played a few mind games with their key players, lol.

So you have a few imrans and wasims waiting for their chances back home?

If he were overzealous and applying additional pressure to his players everyone would have been criticizing him for arrogance.

I'm actually fond of this approach, its reality. We're an 8 side. Instead of wallowing in self pity hes flipping it on its head to say "hey, your backs are on the walls anyway, all you do in this position is fight. Go give it your all." It wasnt accepting defeat already come on yall lol.

And Sarfaraz is already a much better limited overs captain than Azhar was. He's so much more aggressive and most of the time plays some pretty good strategies. He's more dynamic and engaging with the players on the field. Azhar was stoic to the point of meekness.

disgraceful from Sarfraz  He is talking about being #8 as like he is proud of it

I think fans have more pressure on them than the teams themselves. And that can be gauged by the number of threads opened in this forum by nervous fans even before the match has started.

So you have a few imrans and wasims waiting for their chances back home?

Yamin>>> Fahim, and we have better openers than Shehzad and Azhar for sure. Yes we don't have Imran and Wasim/Waqar/Shoaib (Even though they lost to India so nothing new and bowler like Prasad outperformed them) so we bound to loose this one with this timid and slowest players

Makes sense . This is teh weakest ODI pakistani team I know . Even our great teams of teh st couldn't handle the pressure of losing so its good that he is trying to release pressure off the boys.

Well Sarfaraz knew his place in front of the Indian team and hence wasnt too confident about his teams Chance's.

Can't blame him.

Nothing to lose... Sarf lives up to his word..

Interesting to read a few comments here
