"We challenge India to play bilateral cricket with us - they are scared of our team" : Shahryar Khan

This thread sums up the inferiority complex we have as a nation. In the Sehwag thread barely a few Indians attacked Sehwag or said that he was embarrasing India and that Pakistan should stop being so sensitive and that it was just a tongue in the cheek comment.

And here we have everyone attacking the PCB chairman whereas as true nationalists we should stand by him. Pathetic stuff really to be honest.

The difference is that this is a very serious statement, and can't be interpreted as a tongue in cheek comment at all.

When MS Dhoni's house has to be guarded by policemen and other security personnel, I don't think I need to say much more. Also, it's no secret that Indian media likes to keep things clandestine in order to maintain a false sense of superiority. Who knows what else would have happened?

It has been done as a precaution since several years.

So what havoc was caused after the CT Final loss ?

From what I've seen here, several PPers seem disappointed that most Indian fans accepted they were beaten by the better team on the day. That doesn't seem to have gone down well. The victory doesn't feel sweet enough. They also find it hard to believe that India wouldn't have celebrated a third of what has been going on for weeks and weeks had India been the winner. Mentioning this fact makes you a bitter Indian in denial :))

Aus pretty much were over it a week after winning the 2015 WC, can't recall how it was like when India won it in 2011. But I doubt it comes close to Pakistan's CT celebrations which are still ongoing almost a month after :)))

Indian fans don't seem to be so bad now, do you think it's because of the recent success?

I wouldn't make that big a claim. Some of the arrogance and rancour pre-match was over the top. Nothing wrong in being over-confident facing a team you've repeatedly beaten up in World Tournaments, but there was a lot of TV news channel type behaviour.

I think generally Indian fans are less attached emotionally to the game. Once Tendulkar retired, the emotion diminished and we kind of look at it as a sport but with a certain nationalism attached to it.

We enjoy laughing at Pakistan when we beat them but it hardly lasts more than a day. Beating Bangladesh, Australia or England is extremely enjoyable but doesn't extend beyond maybe an hour after the game while surfing the net.

So I'd say it's a combination of:
1. India winning more
2. Indian fans not being attached to the game the way we were in the '90s or 2000s.

I do not mind banter like this because it stirs the pot and nothing like a hostile India vs Pakistan contest. But the Chairman should not be the one acting like an internet troll.

Shahryar Khan just living the moment. No one should ought to take him too serious as he is just counting his days. If at all it was an attempt to get some immediate limelight and stir the Indian media. I cant see India playing us in a Bilateral series under the current BJP government.

lol does he think he is in high school? he can challenge and rile up a cricketing nation into playing with them by calling them chicken scared **** sorts? .... this guy makes me happy at times ... its nice to see a comic of his age!

having said the above ... i have read a few ministers statement from india recently ... and seems like they too have comics for politicians and bureaucrats so i might have to eat my words if they do take up the challenge :P which is not entirely an impossibility

Exactly !! I guess not much mirch-masala to go around to satisfy the schadenfreude hunger cravings I suppose lol.

We have really managed to embarrass ourselves after winning one fluke match against India after a gazillion losses. The celebrations and chest thumpings never seem to end. We have showcased our minnow mentality and the frustration of getting battered for years is pouring out.

As always, it will take a thrashing for us to come back to Earth, and we should be careful what we wish for. All the teams ranked above us (with the exception of NZ) will beat us in bilaterals.

We caught SA, England and India on their bad days which can happen in knockouts. In bilaterals, these things even out.

Please remind me who won the last bilateral series between Pakistan and India?

Australia won the 2015 World Cup at home and were easily the favourites for it.

India won the 2011 World Cup at home as well and were amongst the top contenders.

Pakistan won the CT in England after having barely qualified and were the lowest-ranked team going into the tournament. After the group stage loss to India, there was talk of lowest point, etc. and the other games were all essentially knockouts.

I doubt anyone expected Pakistan to win the tournament except for the ultimate optimistic fans. Beating India in that manner in the final was a huge high. Add that to all the recent woes (not just talking about cricket) and the general sense of negativity relating to our LOI cricket in the recent past and it's understandable, though things like the PM ceremony are over the top, for sure - but fans' reactions are understandable. It's a rare moment where pretty much everyone in the country can get together and celebrate something.

This post and Sherhyar Khan's statement are perfect examples of why extreme stances are mostly always wrong and pointless. Khan's statement is laughable but saying that the CT win was a fluke is probably even more ridiculous. You don't win four games in a row against higher ranked teams as a fluke.

Also the bad days comments sounds like a desperate attempt to take credit away from Pakistan, if four of your opponents have "bad days" against you then you are doing something right.

Anyways if there are any kids on PP then please take Sheryhar Khan's comment and Mamnoon's post as examples of why taking an extreme stance on any issue makes you seem irrational.

How long did NZ celebrate last time they won an ICC trophy?

That one fluke win came in a Final . i will gladly take 5 losses in pool matches and Asia Cup's if it means we were to beat them in an icc event final again!

"We are in negotiations with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and West Indies. They can send their teams first for a short tour, maybe for just T20Is."

Just because they are lower ranked teams they can afford to risk their players' lives ? Why not try Ireland or Netherlands ? They do have ODI status.

The 2010 attack was supposed to be on us, imagine if another driver was sent to the job and our players were in that bus :((. Sri Lankan players are brave to go through what they did and not make a huge fuss about it. If it had been our players, we would have had bollywood movies based on that and our players would have received Bharat Ratna and etc.

I like this fellow. At least he's honest and straight in your face. In BCCI we have hypocrites and back stabbers

Shahariar Khan is supposed to be a career diplomat and / or an elite person with good education and upbringing. He is related to Nawab of Pataudi and other such royal people. But the statement given by him is in bad taste. If he thinks that he can make people fall in line by humiliating them then he is sadly mistaken.

We all know fully well why he wants Pakistan to play India in bilateral matches. It is not for the love of cricket but for the love of money that such matches bring. But humiliating the very people who will make you earn that kind of money is very bad and inadvisable behaviour of his part. I as an ordinary Indian cricket fan, based on this humiliating comment by Shahariar Khan will not like my team to play any bilateral series with Pakistan.

Why just India, most cricketing nations are afraid to play Pakistan in bilateral series.

Person who would be replacing him in 2 months would run to bcci with a bowl. No I don't see any humiliation on our side. Old man made that comment out of frustration. He knew he doesn't have to run to bcci anymore.
