Pakistan captain Azhar Ali admits home is on the mind of the beaten tourists.

But he says the journey can be made somewhat sweeter by downing Australia in Thursday's fifth and final one-dayer at Adelaide Oval.

Azhar is among some Pakistani cricketers who have spent little time at home since a Test tour of England last July-August.

That tour was followed by series against the West Indies in the UAE in October, versus New Zealand in November and then the Australian summer.

"We have been away from home for a long time, just went for a week after the England tour," Azhar told reporters on Wednesday.

"So we have been away from home for a long, long time so it has been quite hard anyway.

"It's the last game and the best motivation we have because, after we play tomorrow, we go home - and, if we finish off with a win, that will give us a lot of good relief going home."

Australia take a 3-1 lead into the last game of the series after Pakistan's inept fielding had helped gift the hosts a victory last Sunday in Sydney.

"Obviously, the performance we gave in the field was nowhere near good enough," Azhar said.

"It's one of the days you want to forget ... the amount of work we have done throughout this series has been exceptional but, on that day, we were just very poor, so we just want to get our concentration right, our focus right and try and get it better."

Azhar also ruled out using spoiling Australia Day celebrations as an inspiration for his side on Thursday.

"You never think like that," he said.

"Australia have been playing really good cricket throughout the summer especially the later half of the summer.

"We just want to finish the tour very well - we don't really want to spoil anything."

This is what happens when you make a quiet test match player the captain of a ODI team.

He's fine scoring his runs in half empty stadiums with all day to bat.

I'll say again why are we not producing any men? These are all boys. 30 years old is 3/4 of your career and we have these players still learning the ropes.

He don't want to spoil Aussie party. He don't wanna win. He just wants a 50 plus personal score and go home happily... :)))

Azhar really should pull out from PSL and enjoy an off month with his family. He is our best test player and he needs some rest before WI tour.

A pathetic attitude by Azhar, I know people here that still support Azhar as ODI captain and Asad as an ODI player. You lot are playing yourselves.

Not a winning attitude displayed by Azhar there..

Cut him some slack. He is depressed. Any player who pride in playing for his country would be depressed after such a disastrous tour.

No.

You cant look pathetic in 3 out of 4 games and then hope for a win and say we want to end it well.

The worse part is, even if he loses captaincy, they'll still likely give him a chance just as a batsman because the pcb is just that stupid.

why are people suprised by Azhar's comments ?

Misbah and Waqar made him captain, and both like talking about the fact he shows izzat to his seniors and is a good respectable guy

thats why he is there

Come on guys. You are criticizing him for saying that he doesnt want to spoil Australia Day celebrations. Its their national holiday, in what world do you think would it make sense for any visiting player to say that i am going to spoil your national holiday? That would be plainly stupid.

Yes, he could have use slightly better words to convey the same meaning but cut the nonesensical hollow agression. Agression makes sense when you have something to back it up otherwise you are just being Wahab Riaz.

We are not winning anyway and he knows it very well. So doesn't make any difference whatever he says, he has that kind of pathetic timid personality.

Some really dumb responses here.

Of course he shouldn't say we want to ruin your Australia days celebrations. That would be an idiotic thing to say.

if PAk win the next game, that is probably the best performance in a long time by a visiting ODI team, irrespective of dead rubber or not.

Are u kidding bro, India odi tour to Australia 2016, india plays 10000000 times better than this defensive team, even if they win tommorow I didnot enjoy this timid team at all with boring players stertched from top to bottom so in my view eeven if they win tommorow
India series>Pak series

India were terrible when they toured Australia...

Could only smother a single win against an attack of Boland, Paris, Richardson, Hastings and Hazlewood
