After ages and I mean after trying n number of failures at the opening spot, we have finally got a guy who puts value on his wicket and has the ability to grind it out in the opening overs and supports fakhar really well who is very well known for his bashing
So can we please stop assuming how he is going to fare against top oppositions but give him credit for performing very very well and putting an end to hafeezs and shehzads once and for all and finally we've got an opener that we've wanted since years now

GO ON IMAM, YOU ARE DOING A WONDERFUL JOB!!!

The lad has done nothing wrong.

He's the perfect foil for Fakhar Zaman and the kid has done well.

He has some areas of improvement but give the lad a chance, he will only get better.

Exactly!!
Just because he takes few balls to get settled doesnt mean hes not fit enough for international cricket. He is definitely a find for us in this series and least we can do is support him rather than demoralize him for absolutely no reason

He is better version of azhar ali in odis and also have similar start in odis like azhar ali have early in career . lets see what he will do against top side .

I am happy to give him credit...for hitting four hundreds against Lanka Zimbabwe B. And yes it is no mean feat to stay focused so consistently. A hundred is a hundred. But he had chances to get out early on in each innings in this series. And coupled to his domestic record, which gives little indication that he is an LOI prodigy, I think it is entirely fair to reserve judgement until he has played tougher opposition. All credit to him for what he has done, and wishing him well for what lies ahead.

Came on PP to make this kind of a thread.

The 'flak' he is getting just because he is the nephew of Inzi is just unbelievable...

The lad has done his job till now and will hopefully do it also in the future.

At this point, I think a quality, match-winning hundred vs India in the Asia Cup, especially if it's in the final, will erase all doubt.

I feel that some are venting their Inzi anger and frustration at Imam, which is unfair.

He has to improve a lot. Better teams will choke him, and he's very jittery outside that off-stump early on. Good start though so deserves a long rope

As I keep saying we will judge him after the LO series against Australia and New Zealand. If he performs there , most will be behind him. If he fails , the ones who were against his selection will have been justified

What are the other reasonable options ahve we got. Now please dont start with farhan and any other guy from domestic assuming he will perform and well other failures like hafeez, shehzads (well less said, is better)
So Imam is technically the best option we got and we can support him rather than throw shade at him coz if Inzi, who deserves credit for bringing him in the first place

People are just upset he's either taken Haris out of the team (as they wanted Haris to open to stick his place in the side) or they wanted Farhan to play.

As someone said had Farhan or Haris performed like this, people would be praising not condemning them.

Sometimes if someone performs you have to put aside your bias and support his place in the side. Whether or not you backed someone else to succeed or ultimately think eventually he will fail.

So if he shows he isn't a fit for modern day cricket against top teams we just sick with him? Sick of this mentality. Everyone goes on about how great a cricketing nation we are yet we have to stick non performing players because there is no one else .

If Imam proves not to be good enough we have to try someone else internally or externally.

I don't mind Imam, but we selected this team from Domestic to replace Misbah XI who made same arguments and won CT :)))

My friend, let him perform first and out of the current options he is arguably the best we've got
Who else would you opt to open instead of him then and how many of our previous openers have gone on to score big scores in Australia and New Zealand

Imam came out of that same domestic so why is he getting treated differently despite being one of the top performer?

I don't think you understood my initial post. I said judge him after the LO series against Australia and New Zealand which means I think he has done enough in this series to get a chance in those series. If he fails then we will look at alternatives opitions.

yeah but sadly some people on this forum started bashing him for playing slowly despite scoring 3 centuries in 5 matches.

The hunger for runs is there and if he takes that into the Asia Cup, Aus and NZ, then folks we will finally have mainstay openers.

I hope imam ul haq is dropped forever and his replaced by akmal, shehzad or hafeez

Because that's what you guys deserve

The LO series vs South Africa is before the series vs Australia.

Possesses potential to become an all time great Pakistani batsman and a future captain.

Seems like a decent player but needs a year or two to be assessed as a great player.

People on here are hilarious. Kabhi khush nahi ho saktay ye log. How old is this bloke? Barely 20 and hitting hundreds for fun. First time I've seen someone getting criticism for hitting centuries one after another. Give him time and his strike rate will get even better too.

If only he was kamran akmals relative everyone would have been ok akmal genes > ul-haq genes. He will have to improve his sr but he’s barely got to 10 matches give him a bit of time

Give him time. And we will see that we have found two stable opening pair in a decade

People here like player who can hit 30 ball 50 once in a blue moon rather than constantly hitting 💯 on a 90+ stike rate.. people criticising misbah but I will blame Afridi that what he has done with us.

He has clearly done well to score 4 100s already but the criticism isn't unnecessary or bad. Some posters have understandable concerns, although several of them are being extra harsh on Imam for whatever reason. However, i don't most would want him dropped, not after this tour. I think we will get a good idea of how good of a player he is once the Asia cup starts.

The boy will be one of out main stays over the next decade his odi game needs improvement but potential is there

Imam seems like a sensible person, not just in cricket but in his interviews as well. He talks so much sense and kudos to him for not crumbling under such pressure and criticism. Being the nephew of a certain someone is hard :inzi :inzi

Not fit for modern day odi cricket.

Against top teams, hell struggle and that'll put pressure on the opposite side of the batsman. These are the type of batsman that you want to avoid having at the opposite end of the crease if you are chasing 300.

He's got potential and ability, with that being said there is many areas of improvment that Imam needs. He's got the tools and seems to have the confidence by his side, so I don't see why Mickey and Inzi uncle can't help him.

the fourth odi match thread was full of posters just critising Imam.
It felt like a hate Imam thread then a match thread...

Imam is doing brilliantly for the time being. His proper test will come in September.

I'm glad he is carrying Inzi's family genes. I'm a great fan of Inzi, the cricketer but absolutely not the selector.

He has done enough to get a long rope. Happy to see him and Fakhar open in the next world cup.

He has done well and should be given chances. He has to improve his strike rate and power game but he has good potential and should be in and around the side.He got dropped in NZ after only 1 match which was harsh on him,IMO.People here feel he is a nepotistic selection but Imam has done all he can to prove them wrong.

The pessimism is natural because 99% of our batsmen turn out to be duds against top flight opposition.
