"We'll shortlist top performers of PSL for a camp to improve techniques, polish skills" : Inzamam

https://www.samaa.tv/sports/2017/02...policy-to-give-send-off-players-with-dignity/

LAHORE: Chairman National selection committee Inzamam ul Haq has called for evolving a policy to give respectable send-off to star players at the time of their retirement to duly acknowledge their services for the country.

“I urge the Pakistan cricket Board authorities to draft a policy to give the senior and mega players of the team decent send off when they call it a day and it is the best way to re-count their efforts for the cause of cricket “, he was speaking as chief guest at meet the press programme of Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) here on Friday at the national hockey stadium.

The former Pakistan captain said that Misbah ul haq and Younis Khan are the star players of Pakistan cricket team and it is not possible to find their immediate substitute.

“They are the icons of Pakistan Cricket and those who will be filling the void will definitely take time to duly justify in their position “, he said.

Inzamam particularly pointed out the illustrious services of Misbah for inspiring the team to gain the status of number one team in the test cricket.

“Younis is also the back bone of Pakistan cricket and both of them are the top notch of Pakistan cricket and I will personally be taking to them to know their future plans,” he said adding, “Worldwide the top stars of cricket take their respective cricket boards into confidence regarding their retirement so that they should be given a decent send off “.

The chief selector said was upbeat about the future of Pakistan cricket saying the country was rich in cricket talent which needs guidance and grooming.

“We will be short listing the top performers of the Pakistan Super League who will be going camp training to improve their techniques and further polish their skills so that they could perform to a required level in the domestic and international cricket”, he added. –APP

Pakistan Will Start Building Team For 2019 World Cup: Inzamam-Ul-Haq

Former Pakistan captain and currently the chief selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq on Friday said the time had come to start thinking about building a team for the 2019 World Cup. The next quadrennial event will be held in England and Wales from May 30 to June 15. This will be the fifth time England will host cricket's most prestigious tournament.

"The World Cup is on our mind and we have to see how many of the available players can be in the national team when the tournament is held in 2019," he told a press conference in Lahore.

He, however, ruled out any drastic changes in the team following the six successive Test defeats in Sharjah, New Zealand and Australia besides poor performances in one-day cricket which has seen Pakistan drubbed 1-4 in England and Australia and is currently languishing at number eight in world rankings.

"Obviously when the team does not perform it makes everyone sad including our former players. But it does not mean we chop and change because of this. Our main task is to keep the next World Cup in mind," he said.

Asked about current test captain, Misbah-u-Haq, Inzamam, a veteran of 120 Tests, said that there was no doubt that the senior batsman had his own place in Pakistan cricket.

"There is no denying that he has contributed a lot but everyone has to step down at some stage of their career this is the way life is and as far as the captaincy issue is concerned that is not my domain and this is for the Pakistan Cricket Board to decide," he said.

The 46-year-old also made it clear that as chief selector he had always listened and given priority to the views of the captain and head coach as they were the ones who had made the team perform. "Even when I was captain I also always insisted on having the team that I wanted from the selectors."

He made the point that Pakistan needed to strengthen its domestic structure and prepare better pitches so that young players are groomed properly before being considered for the national teams.

Inzamam disclosed that presently three former Test players were receiving training to become curators and they would play a major role in preparing pitches in future in domestic cricket.

"We play most of our cricket at home and this is where we have to pay the most attention."

Inzamam also said that it was a fact that Pakistan needed players with better strike rates for all formats. "I think Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam were the two youngsters who stood out in Australia."

The chief selector said he had spoken to regional coaches and around 20 of the best performers of domestic cricket would soon be invited to the national cricket academy to improve their game awareness, skills and fitness.

The 46-year-old was also asked about the round table conference being hosted by the PCB next month and he said it was a good step.
"I think the conference will produce some positives and it is always good to take inputs from our former players. We want to also find out how they think our team's performance can be improved," he said.

Asked about the criteria for selection and reminded of the outstanding performances of Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal this season, Inzamam said: "My view is just that after five years away from the game one requires a full season or more to get back into his old method and system.

"As far as Kamran is concerned he has done well unfortunately with Sarfaraz in the side we can't find a place for him in the side right now," he said.

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1316072/inzamamul-haq-trolls-reporter-question-salman-butt/

Pakistan national selection committee head Inzamamul Haq on Friday trolled a reporter when asked a detailed question regarding left-handed batsman Salman Butt’s return to the national team.

Inzamam was speaking during a visit to the Sports Journalists’ Association of Lahore when he was told by a reporter that Salman’s performance in the domestic season was good and made him eligible for selection. The reporter added that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has also given a go ahead to the batsman for selection in the national.

After listening to the question and all the details, Inzamam said with a poker face: “You are right! You’ve answered your question yourself.”

The room filled with laughter soon but Inzamam, however, presented a clarification on Salman’s case.

“When you are out for five years, you need to make a comeback by playing a complete season of domestic cricket,” he said. “I would like to present the example of [off-spinner Saeed] Ajmal. When he came back after remodelling his action, we rushed him into the national team. I think that was very early. He should have played in the domestic circuit for six months at least.”

On Kamran Akmal

Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal recently said that he is ready to give up his gloves to play as a specialist batsman in Pakistan team, however, Inzamam thinks he doesn’t fit in the current combination due the presence of T20I captain Sarfraz Ahmed.

“There was a time when Moeen [Khan] and Rashid [Latif] used to play together. Both of them were good players but we could only opt for one in the team,” said Inzamam. “Sarfraz is performing really well. Kamran is also performing outstandingly in the domestic circuit; there is no doubt about that. But, unfortunately, we do not have space for him in the national team right now.”

He continued: “There are times when someone is performing and the team needs that kind of a player so he gets a chance immediately. So, luck also plays an important role in a cricketer’s career. Everything is not in the hands of the selectors.”

On PCB’s round-table conference

The 46-year-old, who will be co-chairing the round-table conference which will be hosted by the PCB in Lahore on March 6 and 7, termed the meeting a good step forward.

“In the meeting we will take suggestions from former cricketers on how we can improve our teams’ performance,” said Inzamam. “We will ask them to help us understand how we can bring our cricket to terms with international standards. It’s a good thing.”

Camp for domestic performers

Former Pakistan cricketers have on more than one occasion talked about decreasing the gap between domestic and international standards of the game and Inzamam says he has a plan for that.

“We have kept an eye on domestic performers. And as everyone suggests that we need to decrease the gap between domestic and international cricket; hence, the selection committee in coordination with academy coaches has decided to call the best 20-22 performers from the domestic circuit into our academy. We will work on their fitness and rectify their technical problems in the academy.”

Never heard a Chief Selector giving so many statements.

Hopefully the likes of Shahzaib, Ghulam Mudassar, Saif Badar, Irfan, Asghar, Khushdil, Amad, Shadab, etc. get time to showcase their skills and are invested in.

Sick of these camps. Waste of time.

Instead they should be investing in players going to play cricket in NZ, Australia S Africa etc.

Inzi says the right things but then he goes onto select Muhammad Hafeez

Is this camp useful or not ? MMHS

Definitely - if the right players of right age & combination are picked.

2019 WC is in U.K., in early part of summer, around 29 months from now.

So, if Inzi decides to fix MoHa, Ajmal, Azhar, Wahab, Malik, Asad, Irfan .... in this camp then it's a problem.

More or less, every team, even PNG has a set of core players, PAK as well - there is a core in this team. Now, one needs to plug in the gaps with a vision 24 months later, so that 4 months before WC a pool of 20 players are fixed & everyone knows their role. Last time PCB was last to name squad & Pentangular was played in Dec, for a WC starting in FEB. this camp should be directive to avoid such situation - not to fix MoHa, Malik, Ajmal, Gul or Azhar.

I'll wait till I see the names for the camp before commenting - my hunch from Inzi's past is that, this'll be used to give a window of opportunity to 35+ group who'll be 38+ brigade by next WC.

senior and mega players of the team Misbah and Youngs are star players of Pakistan. The word Mega was also used but he didn't go naming the Mega player,, is he hinting at Afridi. I my belief the cheif selecter should be promoting superstars status to any player it's a team every player is there to do a job (anyone who has a national cap is a stars) when you start putting players in front of others using status other than senior your creating options the doors for premadonna issues

He is utterly useless.
A man who does not have a clue how an odi is played these days has no respect from me.
Here is his sum total of how odi cricket is conducted around the world?
Answer: Azhar, Hafeez, Malik, Asad, Rizwan blah blah blah...the boys plays well. And so on...

Whether these camps are useless or not is up for debate, but at ;east the guy is trying.

Inzi says the right things but then he goes onto select Muhammad Hafeez

Exactly.

However this time he has said that "it does not mean we chop and change because of this". So not even sure if he's saying all the right things anymore.

first of all why t20 league performers are ti be considered for ODIs?. Didn't PCB just had two domestic ODI tourbaments?
why not select players from those matches?.
all these talks look useless when we see players came back in team just through one callvir senior players recommendations.
when you select a player who wasn't fit enough to play both domestic ODI tournament and failed miserably in BBL as well, he got selected bcz pcb got a call from islamabad ( as per sikandar bakht) and failed in all three matches. he failed his fitness test which was taken after his selection btw ( as per wasim akram).

then we have a young keeper who didn't show any fight and improvements at all , it was a golden opportunity to test a new keeper from domestic instead of rizwan but pcb didn't took.

You cannot change a team without changing its mindset and mindset can only changed with a new captain.

I hope these guys do well in psl and get a go in internationals (start with t20 then bring successful players slowly into other formats). Fakhar Zaman, Saif Badar, Amad Butt, Irfan.

I think if some of the players who were on the A tour do well they will be selected in the camp.

How can t-20 leagues like PSL performance given more importance than domestic cricket!

Dont worry players lime Hafeez Asad rizwan will be exposed in this league. To thrash substandard bowlers in domestic cricket is very easy but PSl even though shortest format will test skills of player. fielding strike rate runnjng between wickets everything has to be on par.
Also Rizwan was given consistent chances which he failed to impress. But the mgmt from their side gave him a good run. Now that his non supporters and supporters all know he is a crap bat. so from here on We can move on and no one would complaint that he didnt get enough chances.

Here is the summary::::

Pakistan Will Start Building Team For 2019 World Cup

Title should be Pakistan Will Start Building Team For 2019 World Cup Qualifier

Ruled out any drastic changes in the team following the six successive Test defeats in Sharjah,
Misbah will remain captain and same squad will be retained in the name of consistency barring national treasure Hafeez.
On the other side Azhar will run the show on ODI with his buddies with 80s mindset to take our team to no. 10

Pakistan needed to strengthen its domestic structure and prepare better pitches
Hearing same song for years but nothing will be done

Short listing the top performers of the Pakistan Super League

may be 1-2 new players along with Irfan, Yasir, Hafeez....

Please resign you are no good to us. All boastful and dreamy talks but nothing on reality

Sick of these camps. Waste of time.

Instead they should be investing in players going to play cricket in NZ, Australia S Africa etc.

Besides - most likely Inzy will have Misbah, Hafeez, Malik and Azhar attending this PSL camp lol

One more camp. Inzi likes camping.

Why not make a year round schedule to keep potentially good players fit and get them ready? I know it should be the job of players to see that they keep fit, but knowing how players work in Pakistan it would be better to make a year round schedule for them where their progress can be kept under the scanner.

He says Kamran Akmal could not be selected because Sarfraz is doing well but then on what basis he selects Rizwan Ahmed in an ODI squad???

blah blah blah

and we'll still select the likes of shafiq/riaz for odi squads despite them failing for years

Inzi says the right things but then he goes onto select Muhammad Hafeez

Yet when the initial ODI squad minus Hafeez was announced you said this:

Shocking decision by Inzi to not select Hafeez.

Inzi is turning out to be a worse selector than he was a batsman is his last few years.

I've seen less U-turns on the motorway. Btw Inzamam's best years with the bat were in his final years so even that put-down doesn't make sense.

As has been said over and over again, nobody has any idea what they are doing. From top to bottom the Pcb is a cash cow for the well connected. Round tables or rectangular tables makes no difference, if the people sitting there are not giving honest opinions but hoping for a job. Does anyone really think people as thick as Mo Yousef, Basit Ali, Rashid Latif etc will come up with anthing more than some random guys off the street can come up with. There will be some generic statement about improving domestic cricket but as we that have been watching PK for decades know, its words without ever any action.

And I already responded to you on that thread saying:

It is a demand more out of desperation rather than sane logic, since the people in the squad are worse than Hafeez.

With Prof in the squad we still won't beat Australia, but atleast he would do better than a mediocre batsman and bowler like Nawaz.

In other posts I had mentioned that if Hafeez is selected he should be made to bat at number 6-7 rather than opener, 3 or 4.

Also motorways/highways don't have U-turns atleast not in my part of the world.

This to me was the most crucial piece of information.

nzamam disclosed that presently three former Test players were receiving training to become curators and they would play a major role in preparing pitches in future in domestic cricket.

If this does indeed improve the state of domestic pitches, then that's a huge plus going forward.

In other news Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal and Taufiq Umar take up curator jobs for PCB.
