7 hours to go, really excited by this series, probably the only one along with a few others on this forum. I really reckon we will show England a surprise or two. Only downer being the timezone, will probably only catch the end of days play in the morning. However after the frustrating rain in NZ, test cricket is back for the WI at home.

My West Indian first test team

1. Gayle
2. Richards
3. Sarwan
4. Marshall
5. Chanderpaul
6. Nash
7. Ramdin
8. Taylor
9. Benn/Jaggernauth
10.Powell
11.Edwards

who is the 2nd opener Richards? don't recall hearing his name before...and Xavier Marshall at 4? that looks risky

West Indies are my second favorite side after Pakistan. Have so much flair its hard not to like them. Their pace bowling battery looks dangerous, but it has to fire :)

:) same here...always support them after Pakistan

^ Flair? I find them to be a very dull team, along with New Zealand.

Don't think Richards will play due to a foot injury, Devon Smith likely to take his place.

Gayle?
Powell?
Edwards?

Regardless of the bottom two, having Gayle in the team makes up the required flair for any side.

Nash will certainly be a suprise.

There is something special about the first ball of the first over of the first hour of the first session of the first day of the First Test.

Yeah like another poster said apperently he's come down with a foot injury, disappointing because he could've provided some stability at the top of the order badly needed. He's a solid experienced player, who's a far better choice than Chattergoon or Smith. As for XM he is a risk but he's talent cannot be denied, Chanders at 5 is a must.

Richards is injured so smith will open and marshall at 4.

Marshall is rubbish and lendl simmons should have been called up.

Problem is the squad was announced before the tour match and before Richards got injured. Marshall has talent, he proved that against Australia, he just needs to be given time.

With it being a home series, i cant see why they still cant draft extra players in, theres no set laws on it if i re-collect.

Lendl simmons. Thats what i said!

I read your post BUT i didnt know the guys name which is why mentioned the 200 odd :D

So how come he isnt picked after such an impressive knock?

The sqaud was picked before the England v W.I "A" game.

With W.I now losing a player to injury he should have been called up...

Ah right BUT i take it this Bhanja has talent unlike :jm 's

Apologies for raising what is a minor point but I believe he is a Bhatija, they are generally far more reliable than Bhanje.

Ahh, no wonder, now it all makes sense.

Actually, didn't bhanja also get a double hundred the other day? Must be bhanja bhatija week or something.

What time does this start? (UK time)

Wouldnt mind watching a bit of it - hoping the Windies can beat England good and proper

I hope the pitch is a typical Old school sabina park pitch which suits the quicks. Something like the wicket produced in the abandend test match but not as dangerous :)

1st Day prediction - England to reach 320 odd for the loss of 4 wickets.

Its a 'subcontinental' style featherbed according to Atherton & Hussain.

Strauss edges to 2nd slip - just drops short!

Lucky boy

I've always wondered. Do Pakistani's based in England support England? Cause I'm sure Pakistani's in Australia always support the team playing against Australia, regardless of who it is.

When the Hell is Shah gona be given a chance!

Ian bell is a joke!

Come on west indies!!!

:)) Guess I know now.

2.2 Taylor to Strauss, no run, dropped! And that's a bad miss, perfect length from Taylor, a loose open-faced drive from Strauss, and third slip palms it down from in front of his face

Strauss gone after been given one life!

Hope Ian bell goes for a duck please :)

8/1

In west indies, pakistan has a serious challenger as far as the worst fielding side is concerned.

we want shah, we want shah!!..
bell is useless..his continued inclusion smacks of prejudice and giving certain players more chances

Come on Fidel!

I remember the Aussies been reduced to 20/5 in 2nd off a test at this ground last year! Hope england see the same fate now :)

Bublu,

Bells been given enough chances and is a flop!

Bell looking good so far... (Cough cough may jinx kick in!!)

Bell, one of the better players to watch. Saw him get a very stylish 100 in last away tour to New Zealand

Bell is going to make a triple Century!!

I'm telling you!! :afridi

Bell always does well whenever he is in trouble and then fails miserably in the next inns. Feel sad for Shah, such a class act.

Quality first over from Powell.

Prolly won't maintain this level for long though.

no shah again shocking. They have to pick their chumcha colingwood.

9.3 Powell to Cook, OUT, oh that's horrible. A rank long-hop - the first short ball of the day - and Cook flaps his attempted pull straight to mid-on!
AN Cook c Sarwan b Powell 4 (46m 20b 0x4 0x6) SR: 20.00

Eng 34-2 after 10.2 overs

England 32/2

Come on boys we need to get belly out!

Pietersen is such a superb batsman to watch.

Even though it would be fun to hate him, I just can't. What a player.

That spinner is massive!

And what a delivery - KP totally bamboozled.

Who is he? And how tall is he?

Not sure Eng are playing at!

Bell is gone 5 mins before lunch - Gayle gets him

71-3 off 25.5 overs

Having done the hard work and got a start, Belly fails to silence the critics.

Top catch from Devon Smith though.

Good to hear Geoffrey Boycott on the radio. He was questioning whether you need 4 fast bowlers on this pitch after seeing the turn Benn was getting.

100% agree with Oxy.

Bell scores pretty 20s and 30s....he's not good enough.

I'm glad people are jumping on the Owais Shah bandwagon now.

I've been screaming for his selection since late 2005. He's a class act - just needs a consistent run in both forms of the game.

Well I am the only one to mention Owais Shah, so what 'bandwagon' are you talking about?

Four or five people have mentioned him in this very thread.

So what are you talking about?

Referral!

Collingwood should be given NOT OUT (poss LBW)

31.3 Gayle to Collingwood, no run, massive appeal, and Gayle demands the referral because that looked pretty adjacent. Replays show he was struck outside the line, so well done Rudi Koertzen. His naked eye got it right first time

Eng 74-3 after 33 overs

Darn it. Well fought innings by Collingwood comes to an end. He is out LBW to Benny

42.3 Benn to Collingwood, OUT, oh dear, that's absolutely plumb! An aberration from Collingwood, who attempts to sweep one that is far too full for the shot, and there's no point wasting a review on that one
PD Collingwood lbw b Benn 16 (49m 61b 0x4 0x6) SR: 26.22

Partnership: 23 runs, 16.4 overs, RR: 1.38 (Collingwood 16, Pietersen 7)

Eng 94-4 after 42.3 overs

Tea time. Benn has bowled 22 overs straight for 29 runs
Pietersen 60 (133) - Flintoff 9 (43)
Eng 132-4 after 57 overs @ 2.31
32 overs left in the day

Eng 132/4 @ Tea

KP 60* Flintoff 9*

Bell should be dropped as he failed yet again.
