Seems like a squad with a few surprises but what's your opinion on this squad?

Too many players. 13 or 14 max would've been good as players should be playing First-class.

Selections I am not in favor of are Abid Ali and Wahab Riaz. Too old and both will be 35+ in the next WC which is quite high for an opener and fast bowler.

I think they could've given chances to a few youngsters. Some of the folks are a bit old and may not be there during 2023 World Cup.

I say it was an average selection.

As Misbah said, Pakistan team isn't a laboratory for experiments

Not the worst squad in the world.

It is natural that there won’t be many changes so early on.

But picking Nawaz is a very poor call.

Any spinner would do a better job.

Usama Mir, Umer Khan should have been considered.

With Imad, Shadab and Ifti in the side, there was absolutely no need for Nawaz.
Fakhar Zaman should have been dropped, Imam and Abid should open and Umar Amin should have been included.
This was a good opportunity to include a budding fast bowler in place of Riaz, he is not the future.
Its unfortunate that we all now , including the selectors that in Rizwan we have a much better keeper/batsman than Sarfraz, but a visionary selector wants to persist with Sarfraz .

2nd tier squad from Sri Lanka. An ideal opportunity to pick more untried players yet instead we see far too many tried and tested players.

It's a really good squad. We're trying to build a proper team, no point just sending youngsters XI and then dropping them all next tour. Utter waste of a tour, let's use it to find our best combination.

Rizwan and Iftikhar are probably the middle order batsmen most pressing for selection, so hopefully both play so we can see who's better. Abid is probably the alternative opener most pressing for selection hence hopefully gets a game. There is a slot opened up in the middle order with Hafeez gone, and Fakhar's form is dropping, which may leave an opening spot.

Hence on this tour is most crucial to cement one extra middle order batsman in the side, and work out the best opening combination. Might even be worth trying shunting Fakhar down the order, see if it works.

I would have loved to see Zafar in there, but realistically he's not going to be a regular of the team in the near future. Imad's cemented his place. Shadab still has his place, I don't think it's time yet to discard him.

I would definitely look to rest Babar this series to try out some more middle order bats if possible.

Totally agree - we seem to have this idea of immediate change which is not practical and will not happen. There has to be patience.

Not happy with the squad, but I guess Misbah has played safe here. Given player pool available, this is probably the strongest squad though I would have loved to see couple of new (genuine) spinners, may be a new (younger) pacer & Umar Akmal in the squad as back up WK-batsman, but they have Rizwan this time. Misbah being in charge of duel role can’t blame anyone now for selection issues, therefore I expected him to play even more “safe” than his usual, which actually is evident here - recall of few names that has very little future for 2023 but they are probably the better option for now and obviously average age of PAK squad under Misbah is expected to grow, no surprise there for me.

I have a bad feeling though - it’s going to end like something similar of that famous ZIM tour when PAK players broke all sorts of records, though either side of that tour it was like 6-23 run.

Glad that Hafiz is no where near the squad!

But had wasim akram, waqar younis, inzamam, mushtaq ahmed etc not been given a chance when they were young they’d of never been discovered!

The stadiums will go empty. If pcb also pick Young players. Public want to see their heros rather than newbies

Stadiums will not be empty regardless - people yearn for cricket in Pakistan

Pretty poor squad, but this isnt a surprise. Pakistan havent planned for future in odis or towards a world cup for 20 years.

so who is the 'public's heros' - Nawaz, Ifthikar, Asif Ali?

all the cricketing hero's are young guys - Babar, Shadab, Hassan, Fakhar etc. Your view doesn't justify the poor selection of the rest of the squad
