What's new

What are your views on PML-N?

But I thought Nawaz Sharif was a businessman Prime Minister and to manage the economy was like child's play for him.

its only going to get worse. and yet people either uneducated in the bigger picture, and impressed at the superficial improvements like busses, will be oblivious to the fact that the cost of those busses and the stolen wealth that they serve to hide from an illiterate voting class - are the ones who will suffer.

have said it before, and will say it again, pakistan is desperately heading towards Greece v2.0. it was inept and corrupt greek officials that stole all the wealth of the country and protected the rich back then, and when it all came crumbling down, the stupid public that voted for them have been the ones suffering economic woes worse than they could ever have imagined.

its not difficult, theres an income and an expenditure. they should be arranged in such a way as to match, or at least look like they will.

its for precisely trends like this which is why panamagate is so important - transparency, accountability, corruption on the level of billions of dollars is something this country cannot afford: there will be heavy human cost.

I see the promises of electricity have fallen flat. Whats going on NOORAS werent they supposed to be sorted within 6 months. It would help if your Ministers actually did some work rather than spent time in courts defending a corrupt PM.

Four years on, PML-N fails to end power outages

LAHORE: With the ruling party entering its last year of the five-year term, its pre-election promises to end power outages are coming back to haunt the rulers. Opposition parties have started to rub it in by grilling the ruling party over its failure to end the energy crisis.

With the general elections planned next year and power outages surging again corresponding to the rising mercury level, a great opportunity has crept up for the opposition as the government has badly failed to rein in load shedding even after four years in power.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Manzoor Wattoo says various party leaders had advised PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to give the go-ahead for initiating agitation campaigns across the country over the worsening power crisis.

He said the ruling party had promised to end power outages in six months after coming into power, but load shedding had increased in the past four years of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz rule.

Wattoo said the PPP leadership would deliberate on the proposals to launch agitations against increase in load-shedding hours in its meeting planned for Tuesday. “If the party chairman gives the go-ahead, the PPP will launch nationwide protests,” he said.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Central Punjab President Abdul Aleem Khan also criticised rulers over the increasing power outages.

Earlier, he said, rulers claimed to ending load-shedding in six months and now when the situation had spiralled out of control, they were giving deadlines for 2018.

He said the end of PML-N was near and the rulers had started promising an end to the energy crisis, water shortage and unemployment by 2018.

Aleem said the summer season had just begun and the country was facing power outages even in urban centres. “Trade, industry and common citizens are getting affected equally owing to scheduled and unscheduled load-shedding,” he lamented.

Recalling Shehbaz Sharif’s slogan of changing his name if his party failed to end the energy crisis, the PTI leader said the Punjab chief minister should change his name and resign from his office.

According to power generation and demand statistics, energy shortfall has touched 5,000MW, resulting in eight to 10 hours of outages in urban areas and up to 14 hours in rural and sub-urban areas.

Data indicates total electricity production in the country is around 9,400MW whereas power demand has swelled to 14,800 MW. The widening gap between power generation and demand is mainly due to reduction in hydropower generation.

Nawaz government poised to see off power outages

The country’s hydropower generation capacity is 6,500MW but only 1,900 MW is being produced. Private power houses are providing around 5,400MW electricity whereas 2,000MW is generated from other sources.

Energy experts believe there is no permanent solution to the current energy crisis until the government invests in hydropower generation by augmenting water reservoirs capacity.

PMLN government has been banking on Chinese to complete coal powered projects as part of CPEC instead of addressing core issues like power theft, mismanagement, upgrading existing infrastructure and lack of investment in hydropower. There is every chance that Chinese will be able to deliver SOME projects just before next elections so people could be fooled and then normal services will resume post elections.

Maryam Nawaz will end load shedding when she becomes PM. In the meantime we should take metro bus and enjoy the modern infrastructure of Lahore. Also don't forget to get Mian Sahib's amazing biography from a nearby library. Nothing gets better than reading Main Sahib's biography while traveling in metro bus.

this is unbelievable. please, please can any of the resident nooras please explain to me how this is not an attempt to legalise money laundering, and widespread corruption by this catastrophic government?

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1378588/tax-amnesty-law-anvil-protect-owners-offshore-assets/

"ISLAMABAD: In what might be construed as a controversial move, authorities are planning to give protection from all types of fiscal and election laws to those citizens, including those holding public offices, who would declare their foreign assets under a new amnesty scheme.

The stakeholders – including the government and businesses – are finalising the and Foreign Asset Tax Bill, 2017 to give a general tax amnesty scheme.

This could be the fourth tax amnesty scheme over the last three years by the PML-N government. But unlike past, the authorities are now planning to include ‘public officeholders’ among the beneficiaries.

Under the draft bill, the authorities also want to give protection from prosecution under laws of the Election Commission of Pakistan, National Accountability Ordinance, Foreign Exchange Regulation Act and Anti-Money Laundering Act, sources told The Express Tribune."

Trust me the simple and most expected answer is "PTI has Aleem Khan and Jahangir Tareen".

Even foriegn journalists have criticised this tax amnesty, obvious excuse is increasing the tax net which hasn't increased during PMLN government as they hate paying taxes in Pakistan but want others to pay so they could tell the people how they have done huge favour to Pakistanis by building bridges and roads using their own tax money.

more predictable than probably anything in the world - the impending disaster creeps closer. congratulations on the carnage about to befall all nooras and ppp-ers, you deserve everything coming your way and more:

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1380899/trade-deficit-widens-historic-level/

"ISLAMABAD: In what is seen as a dangerous development for Pakistan’s external sector, the monthly import bill crossed $5 billion for the first time in March, which took the nine-month trade deficit to $23.4 billion – also a new record.

The gap between imports and exports stood at $23.38 billion in the July-March period of current fiscal year, which was 38.8% or $6.53 billion more than the comparative period of previous year, stated Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Tuesday.

Pressure on reserves: Pakistan’s trade deficit swells 28.7%, now stands at $17.4b

It was the highest-ever trade deficit recorded in the country’s history for the nine-month period."

Its IK's fault as the dharna caused the deficit.

PMLN (read Sharif family) caters for all:

Nawaz: Anti Establishment
Shahbaz: Pro Establishment
Maryam: Pro Liberals
Safdar: Religious Bigot

They all have their work cut out to play good cop/bad cop for all the sections of society.

It they really had ideological differences, wouldn’t be together.

Well can't say it's not working. Nawaz Sharif has already become symbol of democracy for these enlightened JAHILS, the man who helped throw at least 5 governments and did once even after returning from exile but when he got into trouble he became JAMHOORIAT KA CHAMPION.

PPP is doing pretty much same, everyone admires Bilawal as the most mature politician around while his father,m phuphi and uncles carry out their day to day looting business and Bilawal himself enjoys his luxury life in Dubai but his nice statements keep their supporters and liberals happy.

Our desi liberals love defending hypocrisy that;s in their blood unfortunately.

RickyG summed it up perfectly in another thread and i share almost same views:

I don't know how anyone can support PML-N with a clear conscience. You've got to be devoid any integrity or moral obligations to support them.

Unlike PPP, they don't even have a clear ideology. They're leftist liberals when the army deserts them. They're right-wing religiously inclined when they have to garner votes from the grass roots religious parties.

They're financially and morally corrupt. At least, PPP is willing to take a stand against things like blasphemy law etc.
Honestly I wouldn't be so anti-PML-N if they were only financially corrupt. But I've seen what they did to Jemima in the 90s. What they used to do to Benazir Bhutto (someone I actually despise strongly). They used to over-throw democratically elected governments hand in hand with the judiciary or army.

They empowered the the Mullah rhetoric and extremist ideology of SSP/LeJ. They empowered butchers like Rana Sanaullah. Their lack of class post-elections was a terrible precedence to have set. And the fact Shebaz Sharif is considered a decent soul...
Some of these people are insane. In terms of ideology, PPP was the liberal left-wing and PML-N was the right-wing conservative party. Now these "educated people" are trying to convince us that PML-N are a liberal non-religiously inclined party. PML-N are masters of disguises and propaganda. I've been seeing it for my whole life.

Meanwhile, PTI is being propagated as a right-wing conservative party. It's probably right of center but it's nowhere near as right-wing or religiously inclined as PML-N has been.

Ill go back to the original OP question..

so what do i think of the PMLN. I have been a Muslim leage voter and my family going back to my grand father and great grand father who was involved in independence activities in the US in the 1930's, were Quaid supporters.

So growing up it was natural to support the league and we were anti Bhutto. I supported nawaz sharif throughout his first few tenures and when he was CM punjab. Also during his battles with Bibi and ishaq khan. However after Kargil I stopped supporting him.

I realised he was a coward not just corrupt..we knew he was corrupt but now he was a coward who was a fool too. I was always a Imran supporter and when he started his hospital I supported him then and when he got elected too.

After musharrefs blunders and his attacks on teh very fabric of what Pakistan is, I though Nawaz would change but it was clear he had become worse..surrounded by pithus and incompetents.

When he was disqualified after massive rigging I felt the PMLN hada chance to move forward into a post nawaz era. Essentially distance themselves from the nawaz clan. But abbasi turned out to be a complete loser and ahsan iqbal and co are weak incompetents.

The PMLN is a family jagir. A party for nawaz and his family..thats it..the sooner it is gone and a proper Muslim elague is reconstituted the better for Pakistan.

PK needs an honest PML, PPP and PTI because a strong democracy needs honest political parties and the 2 traditional parties have become proper mafia families.

PK needs an honest PML, PPP and PTI because a strong democracy needs honest political parties and the 2 traditional parties have become proper mafia families.

We need strong institutions so that people don't come into politics to make money or for power but to serve the people.

PK needs an honest PML, PPP and PTI because a strong democracy needs honest political parties and the 2 traditional parties have become proper mafia families.

Unfortunately as long as they molly coddle the Bhutto's the PPP will never move on. They need new young progressive leadership with new ideas to rejuvenate the basic idea's they claim to stand for. personally I feel the PPP was just a vanity project for a wadera called bhutto. Same as the PML.

this is what I feel we need the two former parties to do:

1) the PPP needs to democratise and look at their grassroots. they have a good opportunity in sindh to change. But they wont because they lack vision and conviction. They also are lead by incompetents and the zardari clan. therefore I predict they will simply trundle along until they are dealt a death blow in Sindh which will force them to change.

2) the PMLN are a zombie party. And if their current leadership outside of the sharif clan had any sense they would leave this rump and look to rejoin a unified muslim league party. That is the only force that can challenge Imran Khan.

3)others e.g JUI JI etc. The JI need to get rid of their current leader and get rid of some of their leadership. bring in some youth with dynamic policies. They used to have alot of street power but most of that has now gone over to the PTI.
