School is one of the places you look back with fond memories once you are through. I'm talking about 1st grade all the way to 12th grade, that's US system I guess in UK and Pakistan it is by class or form.

I think I transitioned from bully to an average mid table guy and then to a cool guy type in 11th before becoming quiet in 12th.

Growing up in middle eastern gulf countries you have to be or get tough in school to stand up to the sifarishi Qatari kids and bullies.

I guess depending on where you grew up and went to school you got unique experiences which put you in a certain group or a mixture of the ones in the title.

Was a nerd until 4th grade.

Was a bully in 5th grade.

From 6th-8th grade I was known for being the best basketball player in the school.

Moved towns after so was quiet in 9th grade.

10-12th grade were my favorite. My main friends were average kids, but I myself was a cool guy. And I had friends that were jocks and nerds too.

So pretty much a mix when I look back.

As I grew up in 1970s India where parents constantly wanted kids to do well at school, the nerds and the cool guys were one and the same, and I was one of them :)

Interesting, I feel the same is in all of south Asia. Kids there are naturally sharp or tayzz as they say back there.

Feel like this subgroup culture mostly applies to the West and was also visible in international schools outside the West.

5-8th grade was bully/cool type. I was one of the tallest kids in my grade had a great growth sprut which took me to 5'6 when I was just 12-13. Then after that I got my first laptop and I stopped growing and playing sports and became more of a nerd type.

I used to fit in well with all groups of people, nerds, cool crowd, the in-betweeners etc etc.

The consequence of this was I had plenty of good friends but no best friends and jived well with large group of people but didn't have an exclusive group.

Personally I always got good grades (Mashallah se) but was involved in sports too so you can probably call me a nerdy sportsman if such a thing exists.

Guess I'd have to say I was a bully because I loved getting into fights just for thrill.

Hung out with the wrong people as well.

But I wasn't picking on random people, just the ones who had done something to annoy me.

But I've no regrets, would go back in time and start over again.

It was a good culture. Taught me work ethic and that I had to be responsible and deliver work on time. Reason for my professional success.

The fat kid who had couple of friends (from childhood) who were considered cool kids who would very rarely hangout with him and would only do that to laugh and make jokes at my expense without the stupid me realizing that.

So glad high school is over.

I know how you feel man. Was the fat kid from 4th to 6th. Thing is I thought I was normal sized, but then my close friends making fun made me realize that bit was getting out of hand after I came dead last in track and field, was a mere sub.

Then in 7th grade I went to the vast arctic wasteland known as Canada to visit my cousins. That neighbourhood had some very athletic and tough 11-15 year olds. Played soccer with them everyday and ran a mile. Fast forward to track and field season of that year and I came tied first in the race. Those same people came to shake hands with me and give pats on the back, but I didn't take it seriously. They were materialistic and glorydiggers, I didn't do it for their empty respect. I did it for me. I did it because I got good at it, because it made me feel alive.

But have now come to realize looks and all that is superficial. You can have a belly and have so much inner confidence and ability to be carefree and just not care.

Like Daniel Vettori?

Nerd and quiet.

Not involved in any sports, fun or such thing.

Now I'm short sighted and big glasses complete nerd geekish look.

Average till high school....
and then in a category which isn't mentioned here....

aaahaaa.... pretty consistent even after RETIRING frm skul.

Used to be a big time ribber. But was still very likable by almost everyone. Very average in academics though.

I've been apart of all those barring the bullying, the only problem with this is you get a situation where one friend hates another from a completely different group of and they don't know that you even like them.

Not sure.

I'm high school Was very good at studies (to the point you would call me a nerd without glasses) and also good at sports making into school and college teams. However not the most social and would hang out only with 4-5 good friends (who id classify as being part of the cool group). Def not popular but probably known by everyone in school.

Maybe part of cool group by association?

In college I was a lot more social and popular but academics drifted a bit. Preferred that more tbh.

Quiet and was bullied. Now work at a major financial services firm in NYC, while the bullies and cool kids didn't amount to much.

kinda surprising.

the guys i saw in wall street were proper jocks for the most part who werent exactly the smartest people in the world lets be honest. Only quiet or nerds I saw were in heavy quant or research roles

Finance while very rewarding for the most part, isnt rocket science, and total dunces can get by for the most part if they adopt a decent work ethic

Quite similar to me LOL

Except for the hanging out with the 4-5 good friends part

Sociable. I had a lot of friends and was a popular student.

I was kinda aggressive kid who used bully others and had a good reputation among my teachers due to good grades. Isn't something to be proud of though :/

I was with the cool/ SUPER bully groups in school. These lot were fiends when it was lunchtime, you'd want to avoid us since we caused so much trouble. We were almost always beating up the kids from the academic year below us in the corridors and on the street outside our school with the shops. We had one massive fight for fun with people in the year above us in the park too, got in so much trouble for that lol. Obviously me, I had to focus on my studies during the later years of school and I just want to grab my degree Inshallah.

Always the go to guy when the school wanted someone to represent them in essay writing, quiz, 100 m race, swimming, debates. Whole school used to cheer for me when I would beat every other school's athletes in the race. My name was on almost every honour board in my school. School prefect and school topper also. Basically the guy others parents wanted their kids to be. But the quality I most cherish was my humility.

I am not sure what you are talking about. The high earners in wall street are guys from top business schools and to get into top business schools you have to have either very good grades or a very rich and influential father.

The last sentences of both these posts don't seem to go along well with the rest. :13:

Well people do change after high school. My high school friends / school mates hardly recognize me when they see me now. By the time us nerds get into college we we realize that even though excelling in studies is important you need to start developing a more presentable personality. In my case I think I actually grew up after I left high school, while still doing fairly well at studies I started playing sports, dating etc.

I allways thought I was cool, but once playing a school tournament in football, I heard someone from sideline saying his; "the no 10 is a real "football-nerd", he must be stopped". After that I never felt cool:)

Ever regretted your actions or apologized?

A school bully did reach out to me years later on facebook apologizing, not that it mattered.

Nothing to be proud of.

I ran into my school bully once on a trip to Pakistan. He sits at his father's garment shop while I'm an engineer from one of the best universities in the world and earning a handsome pay (Mashallah mashallah). Karma has a weird way of coming back to bite you.

Quiet and Cool guy. Rarely got into any fights.

When I was around 5 or 6, I used to fight with everyone. As I grew older, I realized that punches can really hurt and it goes both ways. Worst, it will not solve any problem. May be a bit of posturing and that's all.

+1 these bullies are some immature people. They usually end up suffering due to their approach

Glad that I could work as a mediator to being bullies and the quiet kids together on here.

I may like to expand the list...

- Rebel/Conformist
- Serious/Funny
- Helpful
- Brave/Coward
- Wise/Clever

I was always the huge one but I didnt bullied anyone so everyone stayed at peace thinking that I can be deadly when needed ;)

LOL I mean like fixing up later because as you get older you have to mature and do grown up people stuff.

Ever gotten suspended?

Yeah because I wasn't listening to the teacher one time and was p****** her off.

Ever regretted your actions or apologized?

Not really because school was the perfect time to misbehave and enjoy yourself. The main thing to remember is that after school you can't be the same person anymore so you have to mature and grow up.

Loool I wasn't actually the bad one in the group, I associated myself with these type of guys mainly because they were so funny, I was in tears (of laughter) every time they speak but obviously from some of them I became great friends, majority of them ended up going university. I managed to get on track with education so I'm hoping to graduate with a degree soon like you Inshallah. A lot of us were young at this time (12-16).
