Zulqarnain Haider - What Happened to Him?

I met Zul last year when he was playing club cricket in the UK for a club called Liversedge. Thorughly nice bloke and looked promising.

I have not seen him since and not heard anything about him. Is he still a candidate for a Pakistan spot? What is he doing these days?

I think he is playing for National Bank or one of the other departements. Not a bad keeper, his batting has been letting him down over the last few seasons.

I think he was captaining one of the lahore team last year, dont know about his wicket keeping but his batting is not up to the international standard

i will like to see him given second chance please :zoni can any one convey my mssg to PCB

Actually I was wondering the same, is he still around or still completely out of favour. I realise he is completely barking mad, but then so is half the team with performances like today, but he was certainly a good Wicket Keeper batsman.

Re: Zulqarnain Haider - what happend to him?

Crazy Zoni >>>>> Sarfraz, Kamran and all the other reindeer. Zoni even rhymes with Dhoni :msd

I wouldn't be surprised if Zoni is recalled sometime in the future as a captain. :misbah

Ludricious disappearance, hoax claims that Kamran Akmal had been threatening him, making accusations about the existence of fixing which he supposedly wanted to unravel, Made everyone in PCB look like a fool , despite all of it do you think he would get a call up? :yk

:91: but sadly there the similarity ends. Really liked his knock in England 2010. showed guts. shame he is so crazy. Is he still playing though?? I cant really follow domestic cricket in Pak.

He's a retard, he is similar to me, victim mentality

he hasnt good enough domestic records but he has good international record
and u need a rowdy like him in team :) PCB should get him back , i really became his fan in tht SA series but next match he left us alone :(

Campaign for Bring Back ZONI :zoni

mentally retarded, he will cause more politics, don't want him

Cause more politics? you mean of the Oath taking variety, or spot fixing or Nandrolone or ball biting, or creating Cliques, sifarish..deliberately underperforming...

The pcb and the team is ridden with ineptitude and incompetence at every level, what difference would one more fruit cake make? he was an excellent keeper and a gutsy batsman in his limited outings. Would be good to see that he is somewhere near the set up. But then he also needs some special instructions on how to whistle blow correctly...bechara.

Last I remember, the guy said he was approached by bookies, and that he would provide evidence.

Anyone knows what happened?

What a tragedy. Still remember his 80 something resistance in England during 2010 test series. He also had a few good ODI outings. Zoni seemed destined for a long inning with Pak team but then some really stupid things happened and we';; have to revisit what junaid said yesterday about psychology of these players. DO they ever actually grow up?

He has a Twitter account (which is followed by the PCB; apparently PCB only follows verified accounts).

He (if it is him) constantly posts about fixing (as well as drugs), accusing anyone and everyone of doing so.

If this is not him, someone should tell PCB to stop following him. Or even otherwise, because he basically tweets against the management, players, etc. all the time.

Fixing mafia doesnt want honest players in the side.

There's a reason why some lulloo players like Malik, Akmal are always in contention of a comeback whereas some like Zoni get lost in obscurity.

Did he ever return home after running away from that one tour?

That's honestly the last I've heard of him. Has he come back home, or what? what happened?

Or has he given up these worldly things and is meditating in a valley somewhere in China.

Last I heard was he was seeking asylum in the UK after facing some sort of threat from alleged fixers. Is he in UK? Anybody?

Pretty sure I've seen him playing in a few domestic matches t20 here and there, so as far as I know he's been back in Pakistan for a while (don't think his asylum application was approved)

I wonder if people are still sending him 1 bad msg.

He came across as a man with some serious mental health issues - shame really as I enjoyed watching him play that test match in England where he scored 80 odd.

This is one guy who should never let his cell-phone number be released to the public.

I hope he's doing well but we don't need another keeper-batsman in the team.

He rciv 1 bad msg thn hi go uk 4 asylum. den he 4get story so he come home and play domestic circket.

Got beaten up by his brother, blamed it on "akmal mafia" during a Twitter rant. Deleted it after a police investigation. Don't believe me, just google it

Fact is he joined PAK team, and left himself bc was approached to fix. Good on him

Why would anyone ask a newcomer people don't even know about to fix a game. He did this whole drama to seek asylum in UK. He embarrassed the nation and he kept saying he will give proof but failed to do so. He has some mental issues and it's best for him to stay FAR away from the team.

One thing I find complete BS is he said all this about Akmals, but then week later I saw him keeping wicket with Umar Akmal at slip.

The innings he made that 80 odd, wasn't he reprieved on 0 where if he had been out then he would've had a pair for the match ?

he was not a good batsmen, and as a keeper he also dropped alot.

He did not destined to had a long innings with Pakistan team

It is his 32nd Birthday today. not sure what he is up to these days though. Happy birthday to him.

Of all the young Pakistani players Zoni was my favourite.

I’m a parallel universe he is the captain of Pakistan right now. Has already scored 15 test hundreds and is the best wicket keeper batsman in the world.

Zoni, I miss you. :(

You never know your wish might come true in this universe itself. Its Pakistan. :afridi1

I also thought about this recently. I wonder where he's at now, it's a shame he left the team.

I still say as far as natural wicket-keeping and batting skills, this guy was the best of the best in recent years in Pakistan.

Sadly other issues ruined his career.

He's got mediocre stats in domestic cricket.

Shame that issues of varying types have inflicted quite a few of our promising players in the past.

He claimed to have received "one bad msg" and left.

Was a strange story a couple months after the spot fixing episode.

He's got mediocre stats in domestic cricket.

But when he came into international cricket he looked a natural.

Played a beautiful innings in one of the Tests in England.

His wicket-keeping was effortless, almost in the Rashid Latif class.

He dropped a few catches to be honest.

But i still remember that 88. It should had been a king pair

Got threats from unknown people in UAE, and went away mid-tour, only to be replaced by worst keeper in history of mankind -- Kamran Akmal, who went on to drop Ross Taylor, Sachin Tendulkar among others in upcoming WC.

For all their investigating habits, PCB never investigated why a national player was threatened nor did anyone from PCB made a public revelation about the same, surely they must have had some information.

Ijaz Butt's days were dark times for PAkistan cricket

He turned up in the UK after leaving the UAE mid-tour appearing on some Asian tv stations claiming he had been threatened.

The last time I heard from him he was keen on making a comeback to first-class cricket.

Sad case really and a waste of what could have been a promising career.

Just seen a video on FB. He's ready to make a comeback to the Pakistan team, taken his international retirement back.

But if he was captaining the side ,Pakistan would not have had a champion like Sarfaraz as their leader

Well, well, well how anti-climax is that after yesterday’s happening..

This thread makes me side. Zoni was the chosen one i thought. :(
