What has happened to the Sikh support for the Indian cricket team?

The overall vibe of this thread feels very backward and negative. A lot of us really need to slap ourselves that we are living in 2021 in a world transforming itself into a global village quite literally.

People living in one part of the world are religiously following a Ronaldo, Messi or a LeBron performing in another part and here we are discussing whether or not we see enough turban clad sikhs during Indian matches.

It should really be a non issue and it is.

By dress sense and mannerisms. How else would I know, do you think I check the birth certificates of each individual fan? I am sure we are talking in general terms here, you as well as me. I doubt very much you check birth certificates either.

Where did I talk about figuring out people based on appearance?

You were asking me how I know who is second generation Indians in the crowd (topic of the thread) so I am wondering how do you?

Bearing in mind you were the one who brought up they should be supporting England unlike some confused second generation immigrants in England.

By the way, it's actually impossible to be a second generation immigrant. If you are an immigrant, that would make you first generation.

It seems you're confused and not understanding the point here.

The farmers protests led to huge rallys by Sikhs in the UK. Many Sikhs like many Muslims feel India is now a Hindutva nation. Never have so many called for a Sikh homeland here in the UK. If you're a minority in such a nation, you wont be very patriotic. They prob dont care too much to cheer for India tam. Stand up for your fellow Sikhs instead of making excuses for Modi.

Thanks for the correction, I started the sentence
with :“Hopefully” meaning I’m hoping they are not.

I never judged anyone on looks, which seems to be a British thing clearly, judging Sikhs based on Turban, “first generation “ based on mannerism and dressing sense.

Turban and beard are Sikh badge of their faith. No one is saying that means they should all have one, but don't criticise British for recognising it. But you didn't answer my question, why are decribing second generation "immigrants" as confused? Do you know their reasons for supporting India rather than England? Do you think they should support England instead?

Guruvayur doesn't allow any non-Hindu from what I remember. They are extremely strict about their traditions.

There are other temples as well especially in Kerala but probably the rules aren't enforced as strictly as in Guruvayur.

Yesudas was born a Christian, but probably has more faith in Hinduism than most Hindus. His name is synonymous with Sabarimala/Ayyappa.

Most hindu temples, even the likes of Jagganath Puri allow Sikhs and Jains.

Sikhs in UK can have a homeland in UK. Thats has got nothing to do with India.

Do you have any idea how many sikhs serve in the Indian armed forces?

A sikh has been Army chief, Chief Justice, Airforce chief, President and PM of India.

Lol.

That's a lot of things mixed up.

I live in Punjab and there is no freedom movement going on here.

I was at the Oval on the 5th day, 3 rows from the Barmy Army, and I knew who was a born in England Sikh/Hindu Indians. First off the singing and banter, the accent gave it away. The Sikhs had bangles/turbans, and Hindus you can tell.

There were indeed less sikhs than normal. In about 10 rows there I probably saw 4 with Turbans, and about 10 with karas, the rest were just Hindus.

The difference was however the Sikhs were not wearing the Bharat Army nonsense, while Hindus were. This was in the stand I was sitting in, can't comment on other stands.

If the Sikhs asked for an independent state in Punjab would you support it?

It is obvious that after the fascist Modis policy on the farmers, the Sikhs have started to disengage from supporting Ind.

The funny thing was, that the Sikhs with Turbans had moved to the back of the stand and stood/sang with the Barmy Army, and a couple of Hindus in front turned around and told them they were wrong to. The Sikhs at the back raised their lager and cheered on!

You can probably see them in some of the pics in daily-mail the next day after DM ran a story on Kohli and his mocking of the barmy army after India had won.

How heart breaking a few UK Sikhs support the country they reside in LOL...

Pakistanis and their sikh support for India concern... Cute.... Awwww...

Waiting for Godot.

Are you seriously telling me that none of the supporters cheering India on English grounds are second generation? Is that your argument?

Because if it is, then you aren't having a serious debate, you are trolling.

Why not. The Sikhs didn't sign up to a Hindutuva fascist state.

Can you show any document that said that India would be a secular state, before the constitution was written?

If not, then sikhs or muslims or any non hindu in a 90 per cent hindu majority country were given no guarantees regarding secularism or anything else.

Sikhs a large number of them were massacred in a Islamic country and migrated to India in1947. Pakistanis should be the last ones to even talk about sikhs living in India.

Just like muslims in a muslim majority country have the right to have an islamic state, hindus in a hindu majority can have a hindu state and thats true for any religion.

Sikhs were.also massacred by your Hindu friends in 1984 or does that not count?
Why should you object to Sikhs wanting their own land, because you want anyone that doesn't want to leave in your Hindu heaven to leave, but they have no where to go.

Some sikhs were involved in terrorist activities and were killing non sikhs in punjab. It culminated into the assassination of the then Indian PM. The non sikh population and the sikh population ultimately descended into communal rioting.

What is the basis of this Sikh homeland? I haven't seen sikhs demanding any homeland or having i secessionist tendencies since Bhindranwale movement died.

Things cannot happen in India because someone in UK or Canada or Pakistan wants it to happen. :))
