What is the biggest threat to the world at the moment?

We all have our biases but lets see if we can get a consensus on what represents the biggest threat to the world today :D
 
The switch from colonialism to imperialism. I believe colonialism was actually better, as the colonists accepted responsibility for their colonies, whereas imperialism has artfully removed this responsibility of the superpowers while remaining in control in the background. This has led to a lot of proxy wars across vast swathes of the world which is creating havoc.
 
Where's Trump? He is needed as one of the options in the poll. :trump
 
Climate change. I don't care what you believe in but it is an irrefutable fact that we humans have ripped apart the biodiversity of our planet and we will not leave it in good shape for our kids or grand kids.
 
Climate change..do you know how many people die yearly due to climate.

Humanity can still survive in a terror filled world, but humanity cannot survive in an uninhabitable world so I vote climate change/global warming. Along with population increase of course.

Many of us do, but presently global warming is the biggest threat, it kills everyone indiscreetly not making (human) distinctions of race, creed, color, caste, religion, gender et al.

Depending on the pace of AI development it could be the biggest threat in 50 or a 100 years, 10 if there's a major breakthrough within a decade or so!
 
My home State is expected to go under the same time as Bangladesh when the sea rises. So global warming IS the definitive issue.

This post reminds me that the rest of the world is living a different reality. Even the smog that you see in eastern countries would be unthinkable here. Of course, some of these things depend on your geographical location as well and even western countries can't escape tornadoes, earthquakes etc if your state lies in a fault line.
 
Google's AI bot learned the entirety of human knowledge with regards to chess and all the possible moves and strategies in a mere four hours just by playing against itself. The bot then proceeded to beat the most advanced computer to play the game.


If that isn't scary I don't know what is.


Another example: Facebook had developed two AI bots to analyze their behaviour. The bots were given basic rules of the English language in order to communicate. Soon the bots developed their own language to ease in communication. If you read their conversation it would appear as random smattering of words and complete gibberish but Facebook translated what the bots were communicating. A full paragraph of text in a single sentence. Facebook had to turn off these AI bots.

This was written by journalists who do not know what AI is. Facebook did not "have to turn off the bots". You can read the actual facebook research paper which led to the sensationalist reports.

Turn off bots part was my own added mirch masala to drive home my point :ashwin


And I've read the research paper... I'm very interested in this topic and try to get as much info about it as possible.

I don’t really think any of the the options are a major threat to the world other than global warming and some sort of cyber attack.

I just started watching the show the 100 on Netflix and such scenarios might occur in our lifetimes. I met a guy recently who said Elon Musk is working on some crazy projects.

Machines vs humans is not dd far fetched an idea anymore.
 
For Pakistan, its exploding population and then religious extremism .
World over, Its Saudi Arabia-Trump-Israel connection working for their common goal, its a disaster waiting to happen.

Terrorism is an issue but its main purpose is political exploitation, especially in western countries.

PS: I voted for Trump. Guy is a maniac and he knows he is gonna be dead in a couple decades tops, hence the disregard to climate change and other mayhem he is causing.
