What will be the consequences if a player or a couple of players catch Covid 19 during a series?

Everyone here advocating that international cricket should resume behind closed doors. Has anyone thought of the consequences where inspite of the best health safeguards being implemented and adopted by the players and officials and people around them, what will be the reputational risk in the event where one or a couple of players still catch Covid 19?

Will boards then immediately cancel the tour as a result? Or will players be encouraged to accept the realities of Covid 19 and just be put in hospitals and recover and then get back to the field?

Good question. If they restart cricket in closed stadiums, then it might come to that, having to cancel the series in fear of the virus spreading. Which means it’s probably better to delay the restart of cricket matches to later then maybe desired.

Isolate him . Get a replacement and go om. cOVid has very good prognosis in yoing people. Old are vulnerable though.

COVId for people less than 50 with no comorbids shoudl not be that scary. Have many fellow docs caught it and are perfectly fine now.Even I personally think I am gonna get it one day.

Anyways my point is that Cricket Boards need to plan and think of contingencies in this event. Catching Covid is inevitable inspite of the best safeguards if you are determined to carry on as business as usual. If boards are willing to invest and spend the money necessary then they can't just cancel a tour because of one player getting sick.

Stay safe doc! :salute

lockdowns are designed to slow the spread rather than eliminate the disease. Until a vaccine is available people will continue to catch it. The hope is that the more people get the disease the weaker the virus gets to the point it becomes like a normal flu. In my opinion for the sake of the game it will need to resume sooner rather than later, otherwise clubs and countries across the globe will start to collapse from the loses incurred. If a player tests positive they will have to quarantine like the majority of people with the disease have to do now. Concessions will have to be made regarding replacements etc. when Crowds are able to attend will be another question altogether however, but it could mean viewership goes up for tv companies or they may have to make it more accessible at least.

Exactly , so if you are to delay restart of cricket then when is a good time ? There isn’t , covid is going to be here for a while and unless you ban all sports until a vaccine has been rolled out globally which could take years and may even never happen - the only real alternative is to learn to adapt to the existence of this virus and minimise whatever risk you can through social distancing which can be done on a cricket field and stadium , and no crowds — not ideal but it means you can get going again.

As for what happens if a player gets infected, replace him with a sub and carry on if that is possible.

Otherwise if there is no cricket for next two years let’s say, the game will more or less die and the standard of international cricket if it ever does return will be like that of village level with players rusty with their skills and lacking fitness.
