Many members here are confident about a series victory for Pakistan in the upcoming Test series against England.

Pakistan is not overly worried about the result as they’re fielding a young team. The coach, selectors and others can and will use that excuse if they lose. Only the captain and senior players will face criticism.

England’s situation is very different. They’re under extreme pressure. Having lost the Ashes and the recently concluded test series against New Zealand, losing another series is unthinkable for the torchbearers of Test cricket.

What would happen if they lose this home series? It’ll definitely shake the entire ECB. British media will go mad. It might end careers... Discuss.

It will definitely end the tenure of Root's captaincy and will be the end of Cook's career.

It’ll most probably be the end of Cook’s career and some of the ‘apprentices’ will lose their place in the squad too. But with their theory of ‘best player leading the team’, will Root be stripped of captaincy?

A 2-0 loss would put them in 7th place, behind Sri Lanka. I think we can expect some resignations in the ECB if that happens.

Nothing major. People would be over-exaggerating it so much and you'd see OTT newspaper articles but realistically, there won't be any long term decisions made.

Nothing will happen. English team has no pride and most of their players are bunch of chickens.

Then they will tweak the team to face India. Or pick the same one.

England are going through a transition and the fans have to be patient.

i like the look of this side. They have picked an attacking young spinner in Bess. This is forward planning for the tour of SL and perhaps Moeen will come back as second spinner.

They have picked Buttler as a pure batsman which I think is brave and rather un-English thinking.

If Cook can get some runs and Roooooooot overcomes this fifty-and-out problem I think England will have a good summer.

I’m someone who believes that England’s problems are self inflicted. England is losing some of its better batsmen to LOIs. When the approach towards test cricket is slowly changing to an aggressive style, England is leaving some of its talented LOI batsmen behind. Good to see Jos Buttler back in the Test squad. But players like Eoin Morgan should also have been groomed properly. He’s exceptionally talented. One of the most underrated batsmen out there.

I would like to know how you see this idea of selecting a separate set of batsmen for test cricket, leaving some of your talented LOI batsmen behind. The bowling is undergoing a transitional phase like you said but it still looks pretty goood. I think batting is England’s biggest worry now in Test cricket.

They would have to play extremely badly to lose, they are facing a Pakistan team which has very limited experience or quality in the batting line up, and the bowlers are really limited over specialists, probably being picked because the specialist bowlers are poor quality as well. Take Faheem Ashraf for exampe, he's no way a test bowler, but likely to play because he can bat a bit and probably not much worse option as a bowler than Rahat Ali.

Won't happen - should be a routine win for the England team.

If by some miracle Pakistan do win then Root will be relieved from his captaincy duties and Cook will be forced to retire.

They will get their marbles together and trounce India just like 2014. But I don't see them losing 0-2 to this inexperienced Pakistan team, 1-1 is a more realistic prediction.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Not a lot would happen if we lost to Pakistan. It’s early summer, anything can happen in a short series, and Pakistan often do well in England.

A subsequent big loss to India would be more of a worry, given India’s historically poor away record and it being across five tests.

If India won 3-1 or 4-1 for example then it would be a strong indicator that the England rebuilding job after Cook’s captaincy isn’t working.

Heads would roll, starting with Bayliss and then Root would likely go as well (if it’s going really badly then I would not put a mid-series resignation past Root).

Whom would you promote? Bairstow has enough to do already. Maybe Broad?

Anderson, Test specialist, and he is a close fielder unlike Broad.

Bayliss’s days as coach are already numbered I thought. Losing to India would create a lot of problems if it’s followed by a series loss to Pakistan. I think if they manage to win against Pakistan, they’ll have some excuses to stand on even if they lose to India (as long as it’s not 4-1 or something like that). Losing back to back series is their problem now and they desperately need to snap out of it.
