What's the excuse for such a poor batting performance given our excellent preparations for the tour?

I don't think the coaching staff can be criticized too much given that the preperations for the tour to England have been excellent.

The main culprits for me are obviously Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and Sarfaraz Ahmed as these are the players who were suppossed to lead by example. My patience is wearing thin with these players to be honest, Mickey Arthur spoke about the high performance culture he wanted to bring to the team and mentioned that if you are not performing you are under pressure for your spot in the team, how about applying these rules to these players now?

You can prepare for as long as you want, but if you are not good enough, you are not good enough.

There are zero world class batsmen in this team.

This is standard. If you are struggling to find an explanation for anything it should be for how they managed to score 360 in the first match given the lack of quality.

Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz have been preparing for years. Most senior batsmen.

But like it's stated above, if you're not good enough, doesn't matter how long you practice or have been playing internationals.

Pak batting line is not up to test level standard. I genuinely don't see much difference to the make of the pak batters and Bangladeshi batters. Small, look attractive for 30-40 runs but lack the mental edge

Our bats just do not have the batting temperament neither the technique to last outside London where the wickets are quicker.

In London the wickets are somewhat slower thus Asian teams feel at home while batting. Guys like Azhar, Shafiq are bunnies of Broad, Anderson so they would struggle everywhere.

Lack of pedigree. It looked weak with Babar in it, once you take him out there's not a lot left.

Please do not compare Indias batting with this rubbish. Azhar and asad and srfaraz combined cant tie kohlis shoes

True, Kohli is a much better batsman.

So there is absolutely no excuse for his poor record in England.

He bats like bunny level in England.

Hopefully he improves his record there this time around, otherwise his ATG status might be questioned at the end of his career.

It’s all in the mind.
They played pathetic shots in both innings.
Why Azhar was opening is beyond me.

I think we can safely say that Safaraz at 6 is not going to work.

Main difference is last match England didn't hold onto catches and in this match, their catches have won them the match

Pak batted in the same manner as the last match but they got lucky last match with the english misfields and dropped catches. However the luck ran out in this test. A thorough reality check for the deluded fans who thought a golden era had arrived

Azhar's spot should be to open, that's where he had his purple patch in 2016-17. His technical flaws, namely playing around his front pad to inswinging deliveries, will be exposed no matter where he bats.

However Sarfraz, in this atrocious form, is definitely batting too high at 6. May need to go back to playing 6 specialist batsmen.

Batting seems to have regressed every inning. Be glad that this is not a 4-5 match test series

when you use fitness camp instead of domestic performance as a criteria for selection this is what happens.

He may get away with playing around his front leg, falling over toward the offside batting in the subcontinent but he looked pathetic against the Irish and was dismissed same way in three innings against England...

I always felt that Fakhar should have opened in this series.
Let him have a taste of playing there as I rate him highly.

Anyway what’s done is done.
All in all I feel we let ourselves down badly in this match.
The shots we played were just amateurish.

Sarfraz should retire from Tests. He makes your batting very weak and his keeping is not that great either.

Azar and Shafiq still has some utility in the lineup.

Pak must somehow get Fakhar in the team.

Shafiq, Sarfraz and Azhar are as experienced as you can get.

No excuse.

Just UAE bullies - fail there too sometimes.

Azhar was a disappointment. Didn't expect much from the other two.

Pakistan should phase out both Shafiq and Sarfaraz over the next 2-3 series.

His keeping was very good in this series, he took all his catches.

It's his batting that's been irresponsible and atrocious recently.

No excuse, team played what it was capable of. With lots of dead woods in it it’s lowly rated team.

Both captains won the toss and batted first. That wrong decision had a profound impact on the outcome of both tests.

This was bound to happen whenever there is slight help for the bowlers in the pitch or slight overcast conditions.
No International standard batsman or a match winning bowler in the team currently.
I doubt if they can win test matches even in UAE now.

I think the senior three players need to look at their performances.
