What's new

When you have batsmen with techniques like Sarfraz Ahmed's at #6, forget setting targets of 360+

It's as simple as that. the management has got it all wrong simple as. Even the commentators were saying Sarfaraz isn't the kind of batsman that will look to smash you down the ground. With his batting stance so low and bent, I really don't know how he is the right guy to be batting at 6, where traditionally you send your best hitter to propel the score.

Forget him, Hafeez, Shahzad and Babar have been getting away with terrible strike rates for far too long. Hafeez always makes it up with a few sixes off the spinners to make it look as if he was going well all along. Today was the first time I saw Shoaib Malik actually bat like it's a 2015 onwards ODI.

We were unsure if Azhar should even be in the team, the same doubt is starting to creep in my mind for Sarfaraz. What is he exactly? Yes he can bat and at a decent pace...but he isn't an opener who takes on the quick bowlers with the pulls and the cuts. He isn't a lower order tinker who looks to clear the ropes. He should be at number 4 only but thats if he stops making the likes of Hafeez and Malik happy.

Ironically Sarfaraz had the highest SR of all our batsman today

Sarfraz's strike rate was over 150 today.

Bro if you play 3 balls and score 4 runs your SR will be 150

If you play 10 balls and score 15 runs that's the same.

20 balls 30 runs, the same...since when do the big hitters at 6 score at just 150? I'm talking specifically at the role of Number 6 out of the park hitter/finisher

Players like Razzaq and Afridi back in their days were striking easily at 200+ at a time when cricket wasn't so aggressive generally. This is exactly what's missing from our finishers these days

Can someone post some statistics/ examples of his batting at different positions please if they have it to hand? I swear his best performances have come up the order and each time I think, 'finally, now the managemrnt will realise he is a brilliant rotator of strike, is good at building an innings and is exactly who we need in the middle overs. It is excruciatingly clear that he is a valuable number 4 batsman for this team.'

But then the next series starts and he is back down to 6. He himself didnt take responsibility and come up the order in t20s/PSL.

Nice try, but the flaw in our batting today was the tuk tuk. That much is obvious.

Sarfraz is one of the only decent modern day batsmen we have after sharjeel and babar. though he should bat up the order.

Your seriously not going to use his 20 off 13, including one streaky edge for 4 and one through the fielders legs to negate my argument?

You are right but you made one mistake that 4 of 3 is not 150 and is 133.

Sarfaraz is not a number 6 batsman. That is clear to even the most uninformed posters. However, Professor Hafeez is pushing both Malik and Sarfaraz down to number 5 and 6 in the order which is too low for them.

Your problem is not Sarfaraz, your problem is not Malik. Your problem is Hafeez.

He even successfully managed to displace Babar who had four centuries at the number three position.

He is one pace batsman, he will play like this in all formats. In Test cricket it looks good and there he can get away with spread field setting and he plays freely when there is no preassure on him at all.
But in shorter formats he cant handle the preassure and mostly end up at a decent SR but far from what is expected by a no 6. Should bat at 4.

We have tried maqsood , akmal and rizwan and all have failed to contribute with any significance.

We are providing full comfort to the players like hafeez and in the end the team pays for it.

Hafeez with his 80 odd today has not only booked his spot for the rest of the series. He has also booked it for the Champion's Trophy. One more fifty in the CT against the likes of Sri Lanka and he will be booked for the series after CT too.

and with that we have booked our spot out of the Champions Trophy. In any other team, a player who makes 40 runs in 70 balls would have been thrown out of the team.

Sir this is Pakistan. When Hafeez and Kami can be recalled time and again despite zero performance then anything is possible.

the only batting position where he makes a bit of sense is #4. all other batting positions are unsuitable for him. if he cannot play at #4 then strip him of captaincy and drop him from the squad altogether.

And make who captain exactly?

It is lovely to see you squirm and wriggle in agony when a person that doesn't belong to your beloved race is made captain. Had the captain been from a certain province you would have been ok with whatever he was doing.

if he does not have the courage as a captain to decide that he will bat at #4 then its better to move on. try some new captain; any of the seniors for whom he have letdown the juniors;

I will ignore your race / province stuff; may Allah guide you to think above these things on which a human have no control over
