Where to put extra cover and point?

I've been watching international cricket for a long long time.

Captains either put their extra cover squarer or straighter (positioned wide wide mid off). I believe for pace bowlers the extra cover goes straighter.

And Point in the point position, sometimes also backward point.

For an off and leg spinner should I position the extra cover squarer or straighter? Only one fielder in that place.
