What's new

Where would you rank Mohammad Rizwan as an Asian wicket-keeper in SENA countries (Minimum 400 runs)?

He has got an excellent start to his test career. Brilliant keeper and has played quality test knocks already. SENA runs are always gold standards.

Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen are the only ones that walks into Indian team.

On current form:-

1. Rohit Sharma
2. Shubhman Gill
3. Babar Azam
4. Virat Kohli(c)
5. Ajinkya Rahane
6. Mohammad Rizwan (wkt)
7. Ravindra Jadeja
8. Ravi Ashwin
9. Jasprit Bumrah
10. Shaheen Shah Afridi
11. Mohammad Shami

He can rebuild inning and play sensibly that is his strong point. Pant should learn from Rizwan. :inti

He is easily the best wicket keeper batsman in tests right now. He is world class in both the departments. He is huge upgrade over that sarfraz mediocre Ahmed.

Babar & Rizwan I agree, but I don't think SSA can get ahead of Ishant Sharma in test team the guy has 297 wickets & he is great especially in SENA countries.

Best Asian keeper/batsman in SENA that I have seen over 45 years of watching.

Mohammad Rizwan's Test 50s:

71 v NZ in NZ (came in with score on 52/5)
53 v Eng in Eng (came in with score at 75/5)
72 v Eng in Eng (came in with score at 120/5)

You think Shaheen can replace Ishant?

Seems like a man for a crisis, has done well so far but needs to play a lot more test cricket before his real standing in test cricket can be judged.

A good team addition currently.

Rohit Sharma does not get into any serious Test team that too on a thread around SENA performances

The best WK from Asia currently.

Before this series, I thought Mushi is still the numero uno (all formats combined) but Rizwan has proved me wrong with that knock in the T20 and then again this test.

The best wicketkeeper and the best wicketkeeper batsman in Asia. Only competition with the gloves that he has is from Saha who is probably the best keeper on spinning tracks. But Rizwan is a more complete cricketer.

Rizwan is going along very nicely, and he rarely lets bowlers take wickets. He bats well with the tail, and can also rotate strike well and play some really good punches and drives.

He leaves the ball well, and is equally competent against spin bowling.

He hasn't reached 3 figures yet because he is not accompanied by proper batsmen in these innings. He is a fighter, and is becoming a reliable batsman on the team.

Sooner or later, I think that he should be given a place higher in the order, at like 6 or 5 because he should not be batting at 7 if he can produce innings like this.

He has a lot of potential, and a few good home series coming to prove that he is a mainstay on this team. He should get a triple figure score against SA to compliment his excellent form.

I think he is the best wicket-keeper batsman from Asia right now.

The current Pakistan teams would benefit from having a few more Rizwan type players. Guys who will get stuck in, fight hard and put a price on their wicket instead of just bowing down to the opposition and crumbling at the first sign of pressure.

Sarfaraz also started his test career with a bang but then he got... fat.

Anyways, finally something positive for our XI.

With Babar, Shaheen, Rizwan, a good spinner (post Shah) and another decent pacer we can have a stronger team for next decade.

Gosh, SC wicketkeepers have had a pathetic SENA record. Even likes of Sanga and MSD were a joke.

You think Shaheen can replace Ishant?

Ishant is pretty good but he has been injured for a while. However, over past few years, he has arguably been Asia's best fast bowler alongside Bumrah.

I agree. Only probably a couple bowlers in the world can replace a fit Ishant, Shaheen is most definitely not one of them.

In SENA countries, he is the best Asian wicketkeeper among those playing currently. Across the world, he is below QDK and BJ Watling.

6 tests is a very low sample size. These are his peak years and it will be interesting to see how his career progresses.

I haven't looked at Mushi's yearly stats but I think his record is distorted bcoz he started playing quite early

Dhoni was obviously not good enough in SENA. So he is out of the competition.

Farokh Engineer has pretty good stats and mind you he was an opener. So according to me he is the best wk batsman from asia in SENA. Also he was quite the strokeplayer, scored a 100 before lunch in county cricket.

The best WK from Asia currently.

Mushi is atrocious with gloves, but a decent bat. Rizwan is very good WK and in great batting form now - the best glovesman from PAK since Latif, and a better bat than both Latif & Moeen. Probably will give Kock the biggest contest for best Test WK now. Kiwi keeper is also excellent, better batsman but he is like 38 now?

Best Asian keeper/batsman in SENA that I have seen over 45 years of watching.

Curse of the black eye - I hope Rizwan doesn’t flop in C’church. Really worrying for him now....

Those are some really good numbers to be honest. He has been very good and most likely going to be a key player for the next decade.

Wow what a team :virat

Guys let him at least play 15-20 tests before we call him the best in the world lol. He has had a great start though.

Haha, he is not better than B J Watling. Wow some of you fans are crazy... someone plays well and then they're declared best in the world lol. Maybe do some research on the value Watling has provided in Test cricket before making such silly statements like this.

The way it is going and looking it should not be a surprise if Pakistan do not even win at home against SA.

What a find for Pakistan, the real support for Babar is him not Haider..atleast not yet. Looks a polished cricketer which one is after toiling in the domestic level. Should look for more such players rather than fast tracking u19s

Indo-Pak all-time test XI for SENA:-

1. Gavaskar
2. Merchant
3. Dravid
4. Tendulkar
5. Kohli
6. Rizwan (wkt)
7. Kapil
8. Imran(c)
9. Wasim
10. Chandra/Saqlain
11. Bumrah

:inti

No doubt he has a good start to his test career hope he converts that into big ones.

Im also interested to see Rohail come in to test squad asap... Impressed with his knock of 100 against NZ A

Scoring a century in the only match that played in NZL is not easy even if it is against NZ A..

But some people are calling for imran butt to debut who did nothing, instead of Rohail

Since he keeps wickets doesnt really mean he should come only as a replacement for Rizwan.. He can come in as a batsman alone into this nothing top 4 that pak team has..

If Rizwn can score a couple of tons in SENA countries then he would rise above MSD in Tests as a Test Batsman.

Best Average as Asian Wicketkeeper in Overseas TEST ( SENA+WI)
(min 400 Runs )

Mohammad Rizwan - 46.9
Saleem Yousuf - 37.3
Chandimal - 33.4
Pant - 32.9
Farokh Engineer - 32.6

On current form, Rizwan is the best Asian Test WK batsman.

However, Pant will be a monster in a few years and he has already show glimpses of his insane potential.

Pant is the most gifted WK batsman to emerge out of Asia since Dhoni burst onto the scene in 2004-05.

Rizwan is best on current form but Pant has the highest ceiling.

Early days. If he can maintain this for 1000 test runs he would definitely be the best ever in Asia let alone Pakistan

One thing for sure. Rizwan is not far away already from becoming best ever by PAkistan

Pant has no defence. Rizwan can play both defensive and attacking batting, and he is a better keeper as well. I feel Rizwan will have a better career than Pant.

I have actually changed my mind on Rizwan, at the beginning of his career, when Junaids said Rizwan is a superstar and Pujara is not, I laughed at the idea, but now I stand corrected, Rizwan is a superstar in making, and I am very happy to witness his rise. He is definitely the best keeper from Asia and in top 3 across the world.
