Most memorable or best comebacks by a batsmen in test history rated in order of merit.

1.Mohinder Amarnath
2.Geoff Boycott
3.Sachin Tendulkar
4.Brian Lara
5.Rahul Dravid
6.Zaheer Abbas

Since I have been watching cricket the comeback by a batsmen in test cricket that inspired me most was by Mohinder Amarnath in 1982-83.He reminded me of an army batallion ressurected from the grave to reach the pinnacle of glory. It is difficult to find words to describe his determination against the greatest pace attack ever like a boulder surviving the most hazardous of storms or gales. He cut, drove and hooked the likes of Imran ,Marshall.,Roberts and Holding like arguably nobody ever did with such tenacity. In 11 tests he averaged over 69 with 4 centuries and 6 fifties. It was very hard to visualize that he was the same man who was knocked on the head by Imran in the 1978-79 tour of Pakistan to have a serious injury. After 1979 he was dropped for 3 consecutive years in home and away series. There were certainly more talented ,stylish and entertaining batsmen but none to me after being dropped displayed combative spirit from such depths of despair.Mohinder reminded you of Muhamad Ali.

Geoff Boycott may have been a selfish batsmen but without doubt made a sensational come back in the 1977 home Ashes. He proved beyond doubt that he had phenomenal powers of concentration and great determination.

Sachin Tendulkar staged a Muhammd Ali style comeback in 2007-08 after having a tennis elbow.Soundness of temperament personified combined with prowess in metaphysical regions. From virtual depths opf despair after being overshadowed by Rahul Dravid Tendulkar rose like a phoenix from the Ashes.

Brian Lara lifted his team from the depths of despair in the 1999 Frank Worrell trophy with successive scores of 213,153 n.o at 106.After a period of loss of form he displayed mercurial domination of bowling rarely witnessed in test cricket.Reminded one of a character making sensational twist or turn in a plot of a Hollywood epic.

Rahul Dravid lost form from 2008 but in England in 2011 was a revelation overshadowing every batsmen, after making a comeback on the just concluded tour of West Indies .

Zaheer Abbas lost form in India in 1979-80 as well as in home tours of Australia and West Indies. However in 1981-82 he returned to form scoring fifties in successive tests in Australia and consolidated that form in home series versus Australia and India in 1982-83 where he ressurected his stature of an Asian Bradman.Reminiscent of a poet or muiscal composer coming back alive.

Mohammad Hafeez could well join that list if he does well against New Zealand

Tendulkar in 2007

Resurrected from dead to reclaim his rightful position as the best batsman in the world and go on a record breaking spree.

There ain’t no grave can hold my body down.

There ain’t no grave.

There ain’t no grave.
