3 T20

still love to watch test matches more than any other format:):salute

The format in which my team is doing better is the format I prefer.

India is number one in Test, so right now test format it is for me.:ashwin

Tests > Multi Team ODI series / ICC Tournaments >> Pointless Bilateral ODIs >> T20s.

It seems that I'm the only one who voted ODI's so far lol, Tests are great but ODI's are the right balance...

T20 cricket.

Test not after misbahs retirement.

T20 is good. Only 3 hrs long.

People voting for test or odi, do u guys really sit for 8 hours to watch every game in a series?

I do. And sports are not liked/judged by their length. By that logic, half the sports in the world should not be liked. Cause they last more than a couple of hours.

Which team sports in world last 5 days and at times may not yield result?

In Canada, people dont even have 2.5-3 hours for baseball game and here we are talking about 5 days. LOL

I doubt that.

People only watch a test game in sessions.

Now adays day 5 is fun to watch due to chances of a result

There is a result. That result is called a draw and many times means just as much as a win/loss for a team pertaining to the situation of the match.

So should baseball be eradicated as well? Even football matches last for 2 hours. Very little sports that less than an hour or two to finish.

These are busy times and everyone is very busy which explains why it is watched in sessions and kept up with on technology, the advent of which has made doing so quite feasible.

By that logic it is no use watching a sport or game in its entirety since 90 percent of it is just buildup to the result which occurs in 5-10 minutes.

You ignored my first point, where i asked which other team sports last 5 days. Secondly, draw is not a result, draw is draw which means no winner was declared.

No, i dont mean to eradicate baseball, i was only explaining that most people in west do not have leisure time to watch 5 day test matches (8hrs a day). One test match is literally the working week for people in Canada(40-44hrs).

In most countries, fans dont even bother to turn up to watch test match. For some cricket boards, its loss making to hold a test match. Its shorter format which makes up for that loss, and yet some test purists like to bash the format that is actually keeping their format alive. Like it or not T20 is future and its better to accept the change.

Its natural that some fans (test purists) will be reluctant to change, but who can stop change? The only thing constant is Change.

Even Women cricketers want to play tests. They hate T20's

Your first point: golf? marathons? cycling? Tour de France, one of the most popular sports events consists of 90+ hours of cycling. I doubt anyone sits and watches the entire thing in one sitting- most people would watch a couple of hours.

Like i said before, many times a draw means just as much as a win/loss for a team pertaining to the situation of the match. If drawn matches are boring, so many by which i mean half the football matches that have ever taken place end up drawn unless they are being played in a World tournament. Quality game play often takes precedence over the likeliness of a result.

That's what i'm saying as well, if people don't have the time to watch an 8 hour long game of cricket, they dont have 2 or 3 hours to spare either. People are busy busy busy but that doesnt mean they want the sport to not be played cause they cant find the time to watch it in its entirety when it actually takes place.

I've never bashed any format of the game, i enjoy all of them just the same. T20 cricket is convenient and simple and i dont disagree that it makes money. But it is so weird to see people/fans call for the end of the long format when i have seen all cricket pundits and sportsmen who ACTUALLY PLAY the sport professionally hail it as the pinnacle of the game.

Besides, people not turning up to watch test matches and incurring losses is the fault of the boards themselves. I don't see the same happening in England or Australia. I don't see why people won't turn up if the boards provide proper facilities, coverage, and entertainment to the attending guests.

lol test is killing cricket. Chance of draws and 5 days long, can't wait till it dies soon so cricket becomes more popular. t20s is the future.

Those sports you mentioned are not team sports, they are individual sports.

Secondly, draw is never a result no matter how u tweak words to suit your agenda, but it doesnt change the fact that draw is basically no winner.

See you yourself have mentioned that test cricket is not feasible in long run, when fans dont have time to watch the game then why bother even playing? The day t20 stops bailing test cricket will be day test cricket in most countries will be history. Already we are seeing that most countries are scheduling more LOIs than test cricket and rightly so, why play something that will only incur you loss.

I also do not care if test cricket is played or not, like i agree fans have different taste and im totally ok if test cricket is played. What i dislike is how some fans bash t20 cricket when it is fact that same t20 cricket is keeping their so called pinnacle of sport alive.

if test cricket is indeed pinnacle of sport then why has ICC failed to attract sponsors and broadcaster for test championship? LOL. In football, pinnacle is Football worldcup which is widely sponsored and followed by fans all over the world. In baseball, pinnacle is world series again widely followed by fans in target region, and number of sponsors. Similarly, NFL have superbowl as its pinncale and widely followed by Americans, and no shortage of sponsors.
But coming to cricket, so called pinnacle of sport couldnt find sponsor for its championship. LOL
So called pinnacle of sport couldnt find fans in stand and/or viewers watching it live. LOL

Just because few cricketers said it doesnt change the fact that most fans dont view test cricket as its pinnacle.

Cricket World Cup is pinnacle of sport, widely followed by fans and sponsors lining up. Lets us fans decide what format of the game is pinnacle, and so far its obvious its not TEST CRICKET.

Dont just bring emotions, you also need economics to sustain the game in future.

COME UP WITH NUMBERS (fan following and finances) that Test cricket is indeed PINNACLE OF SPORT.

Until then it just some made up **, and some of you fans like to go with it.

Team sport, individual sport- what difference does it make in terms of viewership?! Does time stop and suddenly become more available to people who are busy to watch team sports but not when it comes to individual sports?

A draw is a draw but its importance in the context of the game varies. Like i said, a high percentage of football matches end in draws as well. Moot.

Never said test cricket is not feasible in long run, don't know how far you are trying to read into simple words. And like i said, again, losses are incurred only because of incompetency of boards. Don't tell me you wouldn't want to watch a Test match in England.

And lol if you think that a format or tournament must have the bets economic returns for it to be considered the 'pinnacle'. By all means then, give the IPL that honor then. lol.

I'm sorry, but i am not, like most others, willing to sacrifice the quality of the game. T20 cricket is fun and sweet but that is all that it is. I also agree that world tournaments involving all teams are the best but as a format, Tests take precedence over others. What you believe, I would expect you to be hailing WI as the best cricketing nation in the world atm cause they rule the shorter format, World champions and all. Yet, why is the quality of the teams judged based on their Test performances?

1-Test 2-ODI 3- First class cricket. Happily surprised to see the result so far, may be not surprised to see vast majority of the PP follweres are true and knowledgeable followers of the game.

ODI > T20 > Test

I feel ODIs provide the most opportunity to show all facets of your game without needing five days.

T20s are entertaining and easy to watch.

Tests are downright boring barring the Ashes. I enjoy cricket but you have to call it as it is. Sometimes you get lucky and an exciting match pops up but in most cases it's dull stuff.

It seems that I'm the only one who voted ODI's so far lol, Tests are great but ODI's are the right balance...

Too right. Also Tests can be so one-sided that it gets beyond stale. Same thing can happen in ODIs but at least it's for 1 day not 5 days.

ODIs could get more competitive if they only used one ball and these 350+ scores weren't so common. I think it's turning inti an 'extended T20' which shouldn't be its legacy.

But to me WCs/CTs are just the best form of cricket hence why I went with ODIs.

Brilliant Post, Test is such an ungrateful format living on the scraps of T20s.

With the 50 overs World Cup coming up, it would be interesting to see which formats people prefer!

Since my teens it had always been ODI’s followed by Tests and lastly T20’s.

Now my views are changing from T20’s, Tests and lastly ODI’s.

I’m constantly finding myself short of time so T20’s allow me to cram action packed games into something that’s fun and excitable.

Wonder if people feel the same and how their views have changed over the years ?

Even in 2023, I still prefer the slow-burn, long haul cricket of Tests and ODIs compared to T20s, where you can be the better team for 3 hours but lose it on a couple of balls. That's just too much jeopardy that it almost reduces the sporting integrity IMO

Test is the premier format for me, IMO it requires the best application of technique and patience. The length and steady pace of it doesn't really matter to me since it's a long battle that can have many twists and turns. Sadly I will probably live to see it reduced to 4 days at the international level, and maybe even die completely as t20 leagues are only getting more and more popular and less players want to put the time and effort in to be good at tests.

ODI is the best format for me.

ODI was the reason why I fell in love with cricket in the first place.

Test is too long and T20 is not cricket.
