Although all of them were on flat decks against poor bowling attacks I would go with Matin Guptill’s knock because it came in a WC QF in front of a home crowd and lot of coverage.

The next best would be Sachin’s 200 partly because it was the first one and the SAF bowling attack was still decent.

I will go with Sachin's knock as it came against better attack and when we had just one ball so reverse was possible too + he wasn't at peak.

Sachin knock because he was seriously ill and on bed just before that match and than played that match with pain killer and injection.after that sort of situation scoring 200 is amazing
 
SRT double hundred was best.

Rohit's 264 as well. Pure carnage in Eden Gardens. Many double hundreds will come in future but that 264 will take time to get broken.
 
I don't know which one is the best but fakhar's one is definitely the worst of the lot.

That zimbo bowling attack against which made his debut double ton was worse than many school level team.

Which garey sober or wasim akram was not playing for zim?jarvis have made a comeback after long stint with county side .chatara did play first two odis .if you are talking about spinners than you have no idea how good fakhar is against spinners.
 
SRT vs SA.Double against a SA attack,it beats others very very easily.
 
To those who say Sachin - shouldn't Guptill get more credit to the playing in the pressure of a WC QF?

That will take some doing.

Rohit is probably the only batsmen who could even hit 300 when in zone in ODI.
 
Rohit Sharma's capability to score big and repeat these performances is worth praising. He has made big scores a joke. Others have also followed. But in my opinion, its the rules playing more than the players. No player's innings can reach even the shadow of Saeed Anwar's innings.
Let us take a look:
1. Smaller grounds.
2. Fast outfields.
3. Two balls used due to which reverse swing has been canceled and is out of the equation.
4. An overall shift of the game towards the batsmen, almost every rule has favored the batsmen except for the review system.
5. Flat tracks.

Had the likes of Hayden, Anwar, Ganguly etc. played in present circumstances they would have made tons of score.

Is the thread about double century innings or about any inning in general? The thread says double centuries and so Saeed Anwar can stand outside in the queue.

If it's abt any inning then there are so many better innings played against better attacks and in more inportant matches than some random Pepsi series against a weakened India attack on the flattest of deck with a runner who ran half the runs. Once you put current vs past parameters to an argument then the sheer point of Saeed Anwar having a runner makes it a pointless inning.

Had Hayden or Ganguly or SRT had played every inning with a runner then they would have retired with 10 double centuries each against their names.

Sharma is insane when in the zone. That 264 was an absurdly fluent knock especially after the first 100.


On topic: SRT has the best double hundred cause he breached the barrier first and did it against a good team.
 
If I'm not wrong, Sharma's 264 innings had him turtling the first 50 runs he scored (or balls he faced?). If he hadn't he could have easily scored 300
 
Sachin by far. Scored against peak Steyn and Morkel. It was also before 400 became a regular ODI score.

He made his first 50 in 72 balls. After that remaining 214 came in 101 balls.
 
I dont think this needs much debate and i can see that most people agree with it that Sachin's knock was the best.

1st double hundred ever - check

Quality opposition (bowlers and fielders) - check

Quality cricketing shots - check

Infront of a huge crowd - check

And he was also sick before the match which just goes to show the resolve and resilience of the man.
 
Probably SRT's.

But Rohit's 264 was outrageously good. Crossing 250+ in an ODI is crazy. :)))
 
Sachins hundred is the best because

1. he was the first person to achieve it.
2. It was a quality opposition
3.tendulkar did when many Mommas boy(ABD, Trescothick, Clark etc) retire crying family commitments..
 
Sachin’s 200 is the best out of the lot. Because he did it against a quality bowling lineup, when individual score of 200 and team score of 400 were not a norm.


I remember, previous match was in Jaipur. That was the 1st international match i went to watch live in the stadium. I had bought a ticket in black after paying a hefty amount( I was a student back then so you can understand my pain, I had to spent all my savings).

Hot and humid afternoon (of Rajasthan), No water( there were queues of almost 1 km at all the vendors), No phone( They had banned it because of recent bombings in jaipur).

All of this to watch SRT live. And he got out scoring a mere 4 runs. I was like its ok, its just a sport, it happens.

And the next match, he scored a bloody 200. I was excited, I was happy yet I was furious and cursing him. Couldn’t he have done it a match earlier. Good old days.
 
Sachin followed by Rohit's 260.

I've never seen anything quite like Rohit's 260 before, he's probably the only batsmen in the world capable of scoring 300.
 
SRT undoubtedly. There is a reason why Neil Armstrong is famous..

If we're being honest, Fakhar's is probably the worst.

There isn't a single player I can name or recognize from this side.

Zimbabwe aren't strong as is and are depleted.

I agree with most of people Sachin 200 was best among these.On Rohit 264 i am sure it will never be broken.Since ICC had changed the field resrictions rules.When Rohit made 264 we had only 4 fielders throughout from 11 to 50 overs and also had 5 overs of powerplay between 36 to 40 with only 3 fielders outside the inner circle.Gayle, Guptil also scored 200 under same rules.After July 2015 ICC changed the rules which is still in these days.

You should have checked who scored first away 200. Dont worship blindly. Sachin’s one is best for a reason, you and everyone knows whose is the worst.

Fakhar's is not only the worst, but is also a 'fake record', or so I've heard. :26:

Anyway, I just cleaned up this thread and removed discussion about scores of less than 200. Hopefully this thread won't become about the worst double-hundred, best to stick to the topic at hand which is: The best double-hundred in ODIs :19:
 
I'd have to go with Tendulkar's one, he done that in 2010 when the game was not as batsmen friendly, it was against a quality bowling line up and it was the first ever double century.
 
Tendulkars 200 (147) was against bowling attack consisiting Steyn , Kallis, Parnell....etc in 2010 when rules were different. Sehwags 218 was also good.
Parnell would probably have been the main bowler for this Zim bowling attack.
However 200 against any opposition is awesome feat and Rohits 3... 200s which includes a 264 will now probably looked at from a different perspective.
