As they say, fast bowlers hunt in pair. So does some batsmen. Their are many pairs when they play together it brings best out of them, like Javed & Asif, Jaysuria & Attapatu, Taylor & Slater. I have mentioned few down here.

1) Tendulkar & Dravid
2) Jayawardene & Sangakkara
3) CG Greenidge & DL Haynes
4) ML Hayden & JL Langer
5) AN Cook & AJ Strauss
6) ML Hayden & RT Ponting
7) MS Atapattu & ST Jayasuriya

IN your opinion, which pair was the best in Test Arena?

Never saw Greenidge and Haynes, but statistically they appear to be ahead of the pack.

I'd say Hayden and Ponting killed it. Utter domination.

I enjoyed Sachin and Sauruv opening stands in Odis than Sachin and Dravid in Tests.

I'd add Younis and Yousuf to the list. They've had some good partnerships over the years.

Seriously, in tests, its not a competition.

Its Hobbs-Sutcliffe hands down!

From those I have watched, Hayden-Ponting then you have the great asian pairs, Sanga-Mahela, DRavid-Tendu, Younis-Yousuf.

Were Dravid and Sachin more prolific the Dravid and Laxman?

I was wondering the same i always preferred Dravid-Laxman probably coz of the iconic 2001 test for us.

They had a similar stand in Australia as well as I recall.

The era I have witnessed Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene have been the most influential as a pair. Their partnerships propelled Srilanka to a real force in test cricket.

From Pakistan Inzi and Yousuf were quite formidable during the 2000s. And in more recent times Younis and Yousuf.

For a PAK forum, surprised to see not much mention of YK-MoYo.

Historically, it has to be Hobbs-Sutcliff.

I think, senior 2 Chappels had some great pairings, so had the Waughs.

3Ws had some big partnerships among them - need to check Walcott-Weeks. Among opening pairs, apart from the 2 obvious choices, I can recall RB Simpson & Bill Lawry. Most irritating one is probably S Waugh & McGrath - you can see the last wicket in every ball, then realize that 35 runs is already on board.

Most entertaining pair - only for few more matches; but hardly one can match Richards (Barry) & G Pollock.

On individual partnerships - I have seen many, read even more, Cape Town 1997 Ten'kar-Azhar; there was one between Lara & Hooper, can't recall details; MoYo-YK @ Leeds; BUT the one that I 'll cherish rest of my life was Adelaide 1990 - coming at 6 down for 3 net off 89 deficit, Khan & Wasim put ~250 at a minute, against Aussies in Australia.

In ODI, probably the most frightening combo was Viv & Lloyd (very few matches those days) & Viv-Haynes. For few years Panta - Gilly, ST-Gangully, Saeed-Sohail... Most amazing single instance was the Old Traford match - at 160/9, Holding joined Viv (on (85?), in next 63 balls Mike faced 5, WI added 110, Viv finishing 189*. In WC finals - 1979 - Kings joined Viv at 99/4, Viv at 47, Kings made 50, before Viv Richards - they put 150+ in ~23 overs, starting from a RR <3.

Ponting-Hayden for me. Two bloody aggressive and good looking batsmen.

As for ODis, Tendulkar-Sehwag. Class, aggression, skills, greatness they had it all. Together they took apart some great attacks pretty often.

In tests - it has to be: YK and MoYo.

In ODI's - it would be Saeed Anwar and Inzy...

Yep. No other pair of batters come anywhere close.

Unless Ponsford-Bradman?

Their careers didn't quite overlap.

Just played 4-5 series together. And unlike Hobbs-Sutcliffe, both of them weren't openers do didn't got many opportunities together (batted just 8-10 times together).

But they have couple of great partnerships in 34 series. First one break the then standing record of highest partnership and second one broke first one's record. On both occasions, the partnerships ended when Ponsford got out hit-wicket.

They used to compliment each other well. Bradman was fast and fluent scorer while Ponsford was workmanlike. Both used to get each other out from tougher phases of the partnerships.

Bradman have some fine partnerships with Woodfull as well, though none of them as huge as 300+ or 400+ as he had with Ponsford.

New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell joined a select group of players when they posted their fourth century partnership of a Test series on Sunday.

Only four other pairs have performed a similar feat, with Australia's David Boon and Mark Waugh sharing five hundred stands during the 1993 Ashes series in England.

New Zealand's sixth-wicket duo put on 113 on the fourth day of the third Test against England at Headingley on Sunday before Mitchell was lbw to Matthew Potts to leave the Black Caps 274-6 in their second innings, a lead of 243.

That also shared a stand of 120 in the first innings of this match which followed their partnerships of 195 and 236 at Lord's and Trent Bridge respectively.

Yet despite all of Mitchell and Blundell's runs, World Test champions New Zealand are currently 2-0 down in a three-match series.

Four or more hundred partnerships by the same batsmen in a Test series:

David Boon/Mark Waugh (5 time) of Australia v England, 1993

Jack Hobbs/Herbert Sutcliffe of England v Australia, 1924/25

Vijay Hazare/Rusi Modi of India v West Indies, 1948/49

Mohammad Yousuf/Younis Khan of Pakistan v India, 2005/06

Daryl Mitchell/Tom Blundell of New Zealand v England, 2022

Sangakkara and Jayawardene. A pair made in heaven all formats.

Greenidge and Haynes were an incredible partnership.

Both with differing strengths, but as a pairing absolutely incredible.

Never saw Greenidge and Haynes, but statistically they appear to be ahead of the pack.

I'd say Hayden and Ponting killed it. Utter domination.

I'd add Younis and Yousuf to the list. They've had some good partnerships over the years.

Of those I have seen, and I have seen a few, Greenidge and Haynes just a different league in my mind. They would put opposition on the back foot so fast…
