We have seen wrong format slection is very big problem in cricket many good potential Player's career destroyed by this.

What you think which player's career spoiled by wrong format slection in pakistan or in any other country ???

Hafeez comes in mind, he should not be playing tests, odi's and t20's if he was playing domestic only he would have been a gun of a player

Shan Masood and Sami Aslam.. each averages about 50 in Lisa A, yet they only have ever been selected in Test

For India

Manish Pandey
Odi cricket suits his game
Keeps getting selected in t20is
I am not very confident that he would be hit in Odis but in t20is there's no way he can be successful since his IPL record is also mediocre
Rated because of one-off performances

Mohammed Siraj
His bowling is suited for longer format
Has done exceptionally well in Ranjis & for A side
Has played 3 t20is till now & got hammered in each of them

Karn Sharma
T20 specialist
Got selected in Adelaide test where he was destroyed
After that he even struggled to perform in IPL & domestic
Had a great 2017 though but again in 2018 IPL he was benched by CSK for most part of the season

PCB should've given more chances to Fawad Alam in Tests & Sami Aslam in ODIs.

Hashim Amla... if he avoided T20s earlier he wouldn't have been declined so sharply...

What i don't understand is how Hafeez gets automatic selection in Tests. OK, they brought him back for LOIs but why Tests? There are far more deserving players than him.

Shan Masood - 57 average in List A still didn't feature in any ODI

Sami Aslam - 50+ average in List A
Fawad Alam - best suited in Tests, instead played ODI's needlessly.

Asad & Azhar - Test players, but played some ODI's needlessly

Sarfaraz Ahmad - His batting style is suited in Tests but gets selected in every format.

Fahim Ashraf - T20 specialist, but gets selected in all formats.

Manish Pandey might be one. He suits best to ODIs but then he hasn't really made much stride since that hundred vs Australia. Keeps getting played in T20s and he has done nothing there. Don't think he is made for that format.

He is a phenomenal fielder though. Brilliant really.

Many, across globe & in PAK specially. One name if I am to pick, I’ll go for Taufique Umar, could have been a PAK Test great, but they ruined him in by playing ODI & then dropped him from Test for ODI failure.

True

Bilal Asif has somehow played in Tests and ODI but not T20 despite have an excellent domestic track record in T20 and a poor one in FC and List A.

Agreed. Pathetic test player who rarely performs on a flat deck in the UAE. Must be binned as soon as humanly possible.

Good shout. Not sure he could be a Pak Test Great as although he was decent, he was nothing outstanding and had a sub 40 average...

Let's hear the rest of your names from Pak.

It is a travesty that Fawad Alam has only played 3 Test matches in his career!

Despite scoring a century on debut, he was dropped from the test side a few matches later.

After being recalled to the international side in 2015, it was only in ODI matches and he never received a Test recall after his first series in 2009.

A huge shame and he could have ended up with a late blooming career like Misbah Ul Haq if he was recalled in Tests sooner.

How come PCB never gets blamed for selecting players for wrong formats?

I can think of several players over the years that were selected for wrong formats by the PCB thus resulting in the destruction of their careers. Stats don’t always describe player’s true potential but as they say numbers don’t lie. If a player has performed well in a certain format, be it List A or 4 day matches, and then why not select him in the format he’s properly suited for. Fawad Alam was selected for T20s 2 years before he finally made his test debut. Does it take a genius to realize that he is not a big striker of the ball? If nothing else then just look at his domestic stats! He averaged at around 56 in 4 day matches. Shan Masood is averaging close to 57 with 12 centuries in List A matches at the moment, but guess what, he has already played 12 test matches at the average of 23. Again, why select him for the format he hasn’t excelled in at the domestic level. BTW his FC average is 33 not much better than his International test average. He has clearly performed much much better in List A matches. Sami Aslam is another guy who averages almost 49 in list A matches, but he has already represented Pakistan in 13 test matches at the average of 31. Again not much better than his FC average of 34! I can mention several more names here but I’m sure you get the point.

Azhar Ali being made captain in ODIs cost him test captaincy. Malik also being made test captain when he wasn't a test player played a part in his downfall as captain. Younis should never ever have played 150 ODIs for Pakistan, never mind playing 267!!!!

We would be here all day if we had to name Pakistan selection blunders.

Imam in limited overs
Shan in tests
Younis Khan in limited overs
Misbah in limited overs

There is actually a long list.

In the latest instance
Asif ali in ODIs.. He should in t20only while as talat Hussein should b in Odi's and not in T20's...
