We often talk about how to make Pakistan’s economy better. Different political parties have different ideas for this.

So, what do you think: Which political party has the best ideas to improve Pakistan’s economy?

Please vote and share your thoughts and reasons. Remember, this is a friendly chat. Everyone has their own opinion, so let’s respect that.

I am not sure if all of these parties are suitable for their name to be taken as the party that has the best policies. PML N policies surrounded the metro, highways etc. PTI's 3 years cannot even be counted here, not enough time for them TBH.

The only political party that can bring any sense of economic stability or economic growth is the one that is reliant on public support for its existence or tenure. Any party that truly believe the public are the one that elects them in power will always work to bring harmony in general public's life. On flip side if a political party genuinely believes that Establishment would bring them to power then they would genuinely serve the interest of the Establishment.

The interests of Establishment vs interest of the public are not the same. For example the interest of Establishment means in a pool of $100m, $75m is reserved for Establishment. However in case of public interest where there is a pool of $100m, $80m is spent on public and human development index while $20m is retained to be spent on public interest projects for a long-term stable growth plan.

To be honest, I think this is very difficult to answer since unlike in some developed countries, political parties in developing countries don't clearly articulate an economic agenda. Even if they release a formal manifesto, they'll show a bunch of spending schemes in there especially Social benefit schemes but don't talk about how they'll fund them, what's the deficit levels they'll target etc.

Not that some developed countries are a lot better. I've always known what the Republican party stood for but it's impossible to know what Trump wants economically. He wants no more debt for example but wants to increase Medicare and Social Security, wants to spend more on pet projects like a Space Force etc.

for one thing, people would be far more willing to pay their taxes if the government they voted for was actually in government.

Secondly, rigging elections and taking away the peoples vote will only lead to further economic turmoil.

A country can only progress with the hard work and contribution from its people... people won't give up their income to crooks and thieves...

For sure, we have witnessed the best economic growth during PTI's tenure. So obviously no other party can achieve that standard which they have set....to do so they need an honest leader which no other political party has right now other than PTI.

Surely at this point the answer is clear? We only need to see how developed Lahore is compared to other cities...

If Maryam Nawaz can introduce policies within 12 months and start implementing them, then why couldn’t PTI? I had high hopes for Imran Khan with his promises of Naya Pakistan and Riyasat-e-Madina, along with his claims of transforming Pakistan in 100 days. But in the end, it was all just talk a massive letdown after all the hype.

Pakistani posters can guide me on this but from the outside i felt things weren’t that bad in the initial years of General Pervez Musharraf’s leadership? I think during that period you saw some economic progress and a lot of foreign investment. He was a strong and pragmatic leader.

Kargil War was an extremely low point for us in 1999 but surprisingly we got back to diplomatic dialogue soon after. We almost signed a peace treaty during the Agra summit in 2001. Then we had the buses between Lahore-Amritsars, Srinagar- Muzaffarabad. Our cricket team went to Pakistan for the historic 2004 series and it was a very successful and well managed tour from the PCB, i still remember as a fan i was really impressed by the state of some your cricket stadiums back then. Gaddafi and Karachi stadiums looked great, the TV visuals were great, you just inaugurated the Multan Cricket stadiums looked also during our tour and it was one of the best you had back then. Our artists were freely moving between both nations.

With the decline of Musharraf by late 2000s, our relations also got worse gradually. The Zardaris couldn’t do much and then the Mumbai attack in 2008 was the nail in the coffin. We all know how things only hit rock bottom afterwards to now when we have almost non existent diplomatic relationships.

It’s not just Lahore most cities in Punjab have seen significant improvements. Even my town, which is relatively small, has experienced positive changes, and things are becoming a little cheaper not massively though.

Something which I have questioned in many recent threads about apparently positive developments in Pakistan, but the posters who want to push their party agenda usually avoid the tough questions and are more happy insulting parties or individuals on regional bias.

I agree but then you will see complaints that it does not look like Switzerland...
