A few days back, NO ONE gave NZ any chance of winning the WC.

Except one guy (yours truly lol - later joined by one other poster).

http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?284332-Who-will-win-the-2019-World-Cup

Now that NZ have defeated India and England is likely to crush Aus....what's your prediction for the final?

Will England steamroll NZ and win the WC?

Or will NZ channel their inner Pakistani and win the WC 1992 ishtyle?

Here's a little bit about NZ's campaign for WC 2019:

1. NZ could have been knocked out of the WC but rain and some favourable results in the other games helped them reach SF. Just like Pak in 1992.

2. NZ faced the best performing team of the WC in SF and knocked it out of the tourney (India). Same happened with Pak in 1992 (ironically against NZ which performed the best in that WC).

3. NZ was almost down and out against India in the SF. A rescue job and a madcap bowling performance (by Matt Henry & Boult) helped them chase a below par total. Pak were almost down and out against NZ before a madcap innings by Inzi turned the game on its head.

4. NZ will face England in the finals. Pak will face England in finals.

5. NZ is led by a calm and collected kaptan (Williamson) who could inspire his team. Pak had Imran who was an inspirational captain.

6. NZ has a star left armer who COULD do the damage in finals (Boult). Pak had the legendary Akram.

----

Can we see a repeat of the 1992 WC final....

Or will England destroy NZ and win the WC (as widely predicted)?

Whose destiny will it be?

Williamson or Eoin Morgan?

----

@Mods....add a poll please.

I am ROOTING for NZ.

I see shades of Tendu and Dhoni in Williamson.

Go and make it happen, son.

Kiwis!! Atleast it will be a first time winner this time can’t bear Bairstow and Morgan.

New Zealand. Williamson is so much more likeable than Morgan as a captain and player.

Come one.

Come all.

You bandwagoners.

One day whining about NZ.

Next day wanting NZ to win the WC.

But we don't discriminate.

Join the club.

The more the merrier.

Both, will be happy if NZ or England lift the trophy.

England lifting the World Cup at Lords would be one of the ATG sights in cricket.

NZ team and their public are just full of class. Kane Williamson has the greatest cricketing mind right now. A n amazing batsmen and captain, deserves to lift some silverware.

Can you edit this sentence in OP to:

Here's a little bit about NZ's campaign in WC 2019:

New Zealand.

Huge fan of how Williamson has carried himself and his team throughout the tournament.

New Zealand.... Coz they managed to beat us in Semis..

Irony is that Pakistan Won against both the Finalists and moreover they had a chance to be in Semis, only at the cost of one of the finalists..

How I wish that Pakistan should have qualified for Semis....May be then, India would have been in Finals by now... :/

Anywayz.. M Glad that Australia is out... Should be an interesting finals..

Also point 4.

"Pakistan faced England in the finals back then."

Sorry fellas. Typed it out fast.

England, they went out of their shell to change their entire cricket culture and invented a new brand of cricket. They worked extremely hard to put together a modern team. They deserve to win it after the hard work. Morgan deserves a lot of praise to change England's ODI culture.

True.

They deserve it more IMHO.

Just that their gloating will become unbearable lol.

This was always going to be England’s World Cup and it will be.

Heart says NZ but mind says Eng. Both deserving winners. I'm just glad the toss didn't impact both SF. Perfect pitches in hindsight for the SF. A bit of swing, seam, spin and good Batsmen thrived along with bowlers. Amazing WC

Well said. They went to the basics and revamped everything and are now one step away from glory. Shows what great management can do

Strauss too.

I'd say Morgan has the best cricketing brain but Kane isn't too far behind. As a player, Kane shines above all though. Carried his team to the final

C'mon New Zealand!

Boult to bowl two of the greatest deliveries world cricket has ever seen to take out Root and Morgan and seal the deal.

Boult to proceed and collect the tail with a hatrick.

He already got a hat trick in this WC. :ravi

Won't mind either winning now that the aussies are out.My wish was if we didn't win it,at least australia or pakistan shouldnt win it.
An england win will revitalize the game in england, which is good for the sport in a way.
A new zealnd win is the triumph of the underdog, good for the game in another way.
Just relieved not to see ponting smiling with the trophy again.

Supporting the Kiwis. Not unsupporting the English either:abbas1

I am rooting for England, even though I always chose underdogs, but this time I hope England wins it.

New Zealand.Because i love Kane.

But if England win it,i guess its alright. After being one loss away from a group stage exit they really made a strong comeback and proved their ranking amidst alot of criticism and hate so i guess its fine if they win it too but will be rooting for the Kiwis.

New Zealand hopefully to win it! But England do deserve it more than anyone else since been the most constant team since 2015

I am rooting for England. They deserve it more than NZ.

England should win it comfortably.

I’m not going to apologise, but outside of Pakistan winning the World Cup there 2 things I look out for, 1.whatever happens beat India (still waiting) 2. As long as India don’t win it I’m easy!

I´m rooting for New Zealand all the way! I suppose the entire world will be supporting them on Sunday, except England of course. They´re just too nice not to be rooting for them, no?

The bad news however is that my mother wants England to win. The problem here is that I don´t remember the last time when things didn´t go as planned by her, or as desired by her. This is a worry for me, because this makes my support for the Kiwis quite irrelevant. :(

Her logic just is that those who invented the game too should win some silverware. Also because they´re playing at home, so the home fans will be delighted if they win.

Would be great for the homeside to win but a win by the underdogs New Zealand will be most memorable and that is why I am going for NZ

I don't understand how people can live in England and not want them to win this (unless they have NZ heritage) obviously I always root for Pakistan but now they're out time to support England and hope they win this.

For NZ to win, they have to play out of their skins and play their best game of the tournament, even better than what they did in the semis. If England, its likely to be a one-sided affair, no joy for the neutral fan.

This is the only reason why I'm rooting for NZ. England deserve all the praise thou for achieving everything they have in the tournament and past 12 months.

would prefer to see the keyways win yet I have a strong feeling that England is going to be the winning team !

New Zealand because of Williamson and I guess I just like them as a team.

They have the bowling to pull it off, probably the best attack of the tournament.

You can support who you want. People are allowed to make their own choices .

If England win, what do we get ?

I do want NZ to win. But if England won I would not be that upset. But if people want NZ to win and don't like England, I don't see an issue with it.

Supporting NZ as they have the nicest, sweetest and most himbke guy in world cricket as captain. Kane Williamson meri jaan <3

Even Pakistan's elimination won't hurt much if NZ win the world Cup.

#YesWeKane

KIWIS have a lethal bowling lineup and personally want NZ to win yet England has a home team advantage so the latter will most probably be the winning team.

doesnt matter which team win. its very refreshing that after 23 years cricket world will see debut champion.

I got the feeling at the beginning of this tournament that NZ was going to win it for the people of Christchurch. But if it is to be won on merit then England deserve to win.

This one is tough, SIF!

England have been great post 2015 world cup and they made a very good comeback towards the end to make it to semi final, so I think they fully deserve this! England gave us this beautiful game of cricket and it is only right that they finally win the world cup of the game that they invented!

Totally agree with this!

Heart Says New Zealand because of the way they beat India and how Williamson is leading them. Mind says England because of the home advantage and having a solid team overall, but I"ll be a bit If i found out that the "Big 3" have won the past 3 world cups.

It’s good for cricket whoever wins.

Obviously I am backing England.

At least it’s not going to be the Aussies again.

Theres a huge myth going around that the kiwis are very likeable guys!!
Kane is, but i am not sure about the rest!
Boult is a fantastic bowler, but i have seen a nasty side to him!
Fergie is nasty, he just wants to knock everyones block off!
And theres a few others!
England of course have the unlikeables of morgan, root, bairstow and stokes!
Of course they have they own kane like likeable guy - buttler, hopefully the new england captain after the world cup, really don't like that morgan!!

I feel that we´re in for a cracker of a game if it turns out to be a low-scoring affair. However, it could well be a boring and one-sided match if a flat track is dished up. However, here´s hoping for the former from the Lord´s pitch.

England obviously my 2nd favourite team and my favourite players jason roy moeen ali and jofra in the team.England are gonna crush newZealand

No major preference but it would be nice to see New Zealand win.

Really nice bunch of guys particularly Kane Williamson.

Steve Waugh: Lifting the World Cup at Lord’s is a special feeling – but England and New Zealand must not get caught up in the occasion

I can still remember the feeling of holding that World Cup trophy aloft on the Lord’s balcony.

It may have been 20 years ago, but to me it still feels like yesterday.

The MCG and the SCG are magnificent venues, befitting of a World Cup final, but we all know that Lord’s is really where it’s at. They don’t call it the Home of Cricket for nothing.

Sunday is going to be a magnificent occasion for both sets of players. One that they will remember forever – but particularly if you win it.

But the key is to play the opponent and not the occasion.

New Zealand have a bit of an advantage in that respect, a number of their guys played in the World Cup final four years ago.

Contrast that with England who haven’t been to a Men’s World Cup final in 27 years, none of their players have sampled this occasion and it will be important that they adjust to it quickly.

You have to try and keep the routine the same – as much as that is possible in what is obviously the biggest game of your life.

But while England might be at a disadvantage when it comes to experience, that is probably negated by the fact that they are in red-hot form and the home side.

They know Lord’s like the back of their hand and will have fanatical support from the stands which has the ability to lift a team in moments of need.

I don’t really go in for much talk of who are the favourites, all that matters most is who stays calm and in the present without looking too far ahead and worrying about what has just happened or what might happen.

But after the way England man handled Australia in the semi-final they will be talked up by most if not all the experts but that’s exactly how New Zealand will want it.

They relish being the underdogs, we saw that in Manchester against India, and they are more than capable of repeating that upset if given any latitude.

England were far too good for New Zealand in their group game, which was only ten days ago, but all that goes out the window now.

This is one-off, with the ultimate prize awaiting.

Australia beat England at Lord’s convincingly in the groups but when it came to the big occasion at Edgbaston, England blew them away.

It’s very rare you see an Australia team barely given a sniff like that, England produced a 10/10 performance and if they do that again on Sunday it is hard to see the Black Caps beating them.

Jason Roy is the form player in the tournament right now, he is in just incredible touch and undoubtedly holds the key to this England batting line-up.

With the ball Jofra Archer is the X-factor, and as such these two are probably England’s key men heading into Sunday but
I wouldn’t be surprised if Ben Stokes steps up to the plate and does something special for he is made for the big occasion.

Stokes’ catch in that first game was incredible and set the tone for the tournament. But I hope the moment of the World Cup is still to come on Sunday, that is where it should be.

If you want to beat New Zealand then you have to get to their captain.

Kane Williamson is the rock of their team. Their leader and their best batsman, he gives them that maturity, that strength of character and resilience.

He came out in a crucial situation against India, the ball was doing everything and they could have easily lost three or four wickets.

But he just said 'no' and, along with Ross Taylor, assessed the conditions and built a competitive score.

England will know how important it is to get rid of him – if they do that early then their chance of lifting a first

Men’s World Cup at the Home of Cricket greatly increase.

One thing is for sure, whoever ends up winning, I´ll feel incredibly sad for whoever loses. Although I´m rooting for New Zealand, but I´ll feel more sad for England if they lose because they´ve put in a lot, a lot of hard-work the last four years and this is the stage that they had been dreaming for. Also, they´ve made a brilliant comeback into the tournament, beaten some really strong sides like India, New Zealand and Australia to be here where they´re. They´ve been a champion team, especially their openers and their bowlers.

We won sif.

Trophy and record goes to England, but Kiwis won.

Yea but we lost.

ICC robbed us.

Picked us clean.

I would have happily taken this loss if NZ lost it fair and square.

But they didn't.

Not England's fault but this hurts.

I did not participate in that poll, Siffy bhai, but here´s my prediction from another thread from 29th May......

Very random feeling: New Zealand and South Africa to play the final, with New Zealand to win. :salute
You alright Afzal? Or is hype of wc getting little too much? :)))
Well, my friend, let's say that I just thought of typing out my early morning feeling. :D.

Although I got my one finalist wrong, but the bit about New Zealand wasn´t far off, was it? And I was mocked mind you! :najam

Well, I wanted England to win but felt really bad for New Zealand in the end. They should have won win but it wasn't meant to be.
