Some really legendary knocks. A player of great innings.

Kevin Pietersen 149 in Headingley 2012 was one of the most enjoyable innings I've ever seen.

That series changing innings vs India in Mumbai..
It was against Ashwin and Ojha. Best innings for me against India in India.

Many of his knocks were special, with Mumbai probably coming out on top for most people. I clearly remember that when he got above 120 or so the whole thing just started to become outrageous. I would add however that the Napier one was another series winner, and seriously underrated - he scored more than 50% of the team’s runs in the innings, in a low-scoring affair too.

While there is no doubt that when compared to his contemporaries, KP has got 6-7 iconic knocks while they would be having 2-3 only, he for some reason wasn't the same batsmen after 2009.

Think he got a hundred 3 years later in 2012 then, although he played 3 great knocks that year too.

Nevertheless, very unique and special player. He has a claim to break into 2010s all-time XI.

186 is Mumbai. England beating India in India was the biggest cricket shock in last 10 years. India typically destroys non SC teams when they visit. England got aboslutely mauled in 2016 for example.

This. Steyn was at his peak then and I have never seen him intimated as he was then. Remember this one shot where Steyn bowled one of his typical vicious outswingers and KP just stood back and whacked it like a baseball back to Steyn's face.

It was the only time I got a glimpse of why people must have feared Viv.

England always competed well in India. Couple of 1-0 losses and a 1-1 draw before 2012 series

The Oval. He clobbered two champions and made the Ashes safe after sixteen dreadful years in enemy hands.

The one at the Oval.

He took the game away from Australia and reclaimed the ashes for England as Robert mentioned, England had to wait 16 years to regain the ashes.

It also helped that he was dropped TWICE and OUT almost first ball, even though he didn't glove it. :ashwin

No doubt the Oval 158 was a world-class epic, however he did give some soft chances and was lucky to get to 20. The Mumbai 186 was all skill-based in comparison and I am not sure that he gave a chance at all.

His Mumbai knock was unreal. I still can't believe some of the outrageous footwork displayed. He played on different planet to all the other batters. And scripted a most awesome victory for his team.
