Best West Indian pace bowlers of all ranked in order of merit.A sequel to my post on Holding.

1.Malcolm Marshall
2.Curtly Ambrose
3.Andy Roberts
4.Michael Holding
5.Joel Garner
6.Courtney Walsh
7.Wes Hall
8.Colin Croft
9.Sylvester Clarke
10. Ian Bishop

Marshall unquestionably at the top with his staggering statistics and versatility and creativity in regions of the sublime.Outstanding even in the company of the greatest West Indian bowlers of all time like Holding and Garner.Poessed every component for the perfect fast bowler.

Ambrose 2nd because of phenomenal accuracy blended with sustained pace and agression. In single spells more lethal than anybody as well as in 4th innings or on broken wickets. At his best no bowler was a better match-winner .

Andy Roberts was technically the most complete and versatile of them with his slow and fast bouncer as well as outswinger and off-cutter.Great batsmen found him the hardest to face.

Holding was the quickest for consistency of speed through the air and posessed the most perfect bowling action. At his best to me the greatest like when he captured 14 wickets on featherbed at the Oval in 1976 or the over he bolwed to Boycott at Kingston in 1981.

Garner posessed the best yorker of them all and was the bets ODI bower with his phenomenal accuracy. Not tested fulyl as he was mainly a stock bowler and despite a phenomenal average his strike rate and best figures do not compare favourably with Marshall or Ambrose.Garner rtaed at no 5 as he was not as versatile as Roberts and Holding nor as effective against the top order.

Wes Hall was outstanding in respect to his era and created shivers in the best of batting camps. One of the most complete of pace bowlers who could conquer any type of conditions.

Courtney Walsh was simply a bowling metronome who took longevity of a fast bowler to region snot traversed before with his phenomenal endurance.A greater craftsman than Ambrose being more effective on fat,sub-continent tracks.Could be unplayable at times.

Colin Croft took hostility to it's ultimate height and was master of the quick off-break.For a period overshadowed every member of the great pace quartet.

Sylvester Clarke was the fastest of them all and at his best as lethal as anyone.

Ian Bishop was the most versatile Calypso paceman of his day and deadly.

After Marshall really touch and go in ranking the bowlers. For sheer skill Roberts was the closest to Marshall but did not have the statistical record of Ambrose or won so many games.Holding was at his best arguably at the top but did not work so much on his bowling and was often best by injury.Garner was statistically in terms of average at 3rd place but morally not as penetrative of great batsmen as Holding and Roberts.Walsh had the most staggering aggregate and could be more deceptive than partner Ambrose but not as penetrative as the ones mentioned above him.Respecting pure figures Garner and Walsh should have been occupying the 3rd and 4th places but Cricket is not just about statistics. At his best Hall may have surpassed everyone in term s of pure ferocity.

For pure skill Hall.Holding and Roberts challenged Marshall most. For sheer accuracy Garner and Ambrose were the kings. For hostility and agression Hall and Ambrose were the closest to Marshall.

I think that is about right though I would be inclined to push Garner up a bit.
