Jeff Thomson and all I haven't seen so......

In terms of consistent pace in test and ODI cricket over a career, id go with

Lee
Akhtar
Mitch
Donald
Steyn

Akhtar
Tait
Lee
Thomson
Starc

Based on readings of speed guns and not eye cameras.

Shoaib akhtar easily .

Lee was a distant second although he was up there but Shoaib was a beast he always had that extra mile over lee especially in test cricket

People underrate just how quick Akhtar was during the 2001 -2003 period . He was frighteningly fast . He would warn up with a 145 kph plus delivery .
If t20 was a thing at his peak who knows what speeds he would have touched .

Does anyone have a video of his 98.7 mph delivery to Trescothick . If you disregard the speed readings that is the fastest bowl i have ever seen . It just flew over the keeper's head . The guy was insane.

Include Praveen Kumar, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Symonds as fastest too if Larwood is in the list.

How can one tell? Old timers haven't been properly timed. Heck it's even difficult to determine the exact pace WI bowlers..

Heard but can't verify that Mohammad Akram was the fastest pakistani bowler at one point (pacier than Akhatar); caused lot of trouble for Lara at one point.

He was 90 mph consistently with a lot of bounce and fluid action. Not an express though.

3. Tom "Giant" Richardson
4. Charles "Terror" Turner
5. Freddi "Demon" Spofforth

I believe Waqar Younis in his prime was a LOT faster than Shoaib.

How fast was Thomson actually? How people accurately calculated his speed that time

I read somewhere that ball speed today is measured at the bowlers end but back then it was measured at the batting crease..is it true or does it makes any change

Watching thomson's clips indeed shows that he was very fast but it does not look faster than what Akthar,Lee and Tait bowled in naked eyes

Devon Malcolm got 9 wickets in an innings v SA

There is some sarcasm when older bowlers in the Bradman era ironically are mentioned none of them bowled over 75mph according to some.
The fastest through the eras have probably been Larwood Lindwall Tyson Trueman Holding Thompson Waqar Shoaib Lee and few others.
We can see they have become on peak speeds 5-10% quicker over time the first ones bowled 140+ peak (Larwood Lindwall) generally in the 130s then you had Thompson who had a peak speed of 150+ leading to Shoaib and Lee who had peak speeds of 155+ and were generally bowling 140-145+ during normal spells.

Fastest ever could be:

1 Shoaib
2 Lee
3 Sami
4 Tait
5 Thompson

All have bowled balls very close to 100mph with a few over 160kph which is 100mph+.
