Azhar

Had a decent series against england, was one of the better bats in nz and was excellent against WI and Aus

Both were quality knocks and the pitches had a bit for the bowlers also (at the time).

The 300 was on a dead pitch, though.

The way Australia batted on that pitch it made it look like it was a batting pitch. The knocks were quality for sure. Just not enough for Pakistan to win the game. When our bowlers are nullified its hard to win in such matches.

Maybe on bowler friendly wickets those knocks would have won Pakistan the game.

I feel that the first two days were harder for batting with the constant cloud-cover, interruptions and all. Day 3 onwards, the sun was out most of the time.

Anyway, regardless of the outcome, they were quality knocks.

I voted for Yasir.

PAK won 4 Tests in 2016 -

Lord's: Yasir 6/72+4/69 & 11*+30 - Azhar 7 + 23
Oval: Yasir 0/60+ 5/71 & 26 - Azhar 49 + 30*
Dubai: Yasir 5/121 + 2/113 & + 2 - Azhar 302* + 2
Abu Dhabi: Yasir 4/86 + 6/124 & 23 - Azhar 0 + 79

This is one correlation; other one is PAK lost 6 Tests, where Yasir failed to live expectation in 5 Tests he played.

My conclusion is Yasir is the difference between PAK being PAK or Zimbabwe in terms of W/L. May be Zimboks will lose more measurably than PAK in those 6 Tests, but PAK won't have won any of those 4 without Yasir.

People who are lobbying for Azhar has no clue what is Test cricket & what it takes to take 32 wickets in 4 Tests & bowl about 300 overs in 18 days. And that guy put vital runs at Lord's well.

You could make a good case for Yasir for the reasons MMHS has outlined. But my vote will go to Azhar Ali because he has been the most consistent performer and because his is quite a story. He began his first class career batting at 9 and thereafter spent the next few matches at 7 or 8. He slowly worked his way up the order. Early in his international career he had a a tour of England which was in a cricketing context disastrous. He really struggled against the moving ball.Yet, here we are six years on, where he has shown that he can score runs in England and Australia. There have surely been more skilful Pakistani batsmen, but few with his strength of will.

Voted Azhar in a heartbeat, quite interesting to note that he's scored over 500 Test runs in two Tests this year. One included the triple century and the other included the double ton at the MCG. He's been an amazing find for us in Tests. However he needs to give up the ODI captaincy.

Good for Azhar but bad for Pakistan that he is the best choice by far. Wish there were other contenders as well.

2 Votes for Rahat - now, I am convinced that PAK Cricketers do have PP account & some of them maintains multiple accounts.

I'm pretty sure one of them must be Big Mac.:yk3

The other is probably an Indian poster.

Misbah ul Haq, Man of the series for his performances against England as captain and player.. redeeming Pakistan as a cricketing nation after spot fixing fiasco, in the same place it all started for them

Also winning the spirit of cricket award.. he shades Azhar Ali.. who's 2 100's away from home have not come in winning situations.. however it has to be either Azhar or Misbah.. Azhar Ali statistically has had a very good year.
