Has to be Jos Butler, even though England got knocked out of the semi-final, I was surprised as to why he wasn't considered for T20 WC player of the tournament.

Butler wasn't even among top 3 run scorers during the last World T20. He was 4th.

Any justifications?

1. Does the hard job of batting in middle overs and death overs with no field restrictions
2. Still very consistent
3. Can smack from ball 1 and go 360 degree which is a great skill to have in T20s when no field restrictions there.

True but saying “best in the world” for SKY is pushing it lol. He might have the case for being the best in the Indian side where most players seem to play cricket from the 90’s in T20.

On topic I would say Butler and Rashid Khan as someone said would be the leading contenders.

However forget T20 but it’s tough to pinpoint one player as the best because this isn’t tennis, various players have various roles. You can have the best bowling attack but then if you have Kamran Akmal keeping its not going to help.

Here is my X1 on current form
J Butler (will be keeper as well)
Babar Azam
K. Williamson (only for captaincy)
L. Livingstone (game changer)
SKY
G. Maxwell ( bowling/utility package is underrated as his batting is always the focus)
H.Pandya ( conditional: a fully fit Hardik Pandya is an outright MVP)
R.Khan
A.Zampa
S. Afridi
J. Bumrah

Reserves: Rizwan, Haris Rauf, A.Russel, D. Weise

Now that’s an unbeatable team.

Rashid Khan for me.

Can win a match with bat or ball, excellent tactician too.

My order would be

Rashid Khan never fails to perform in t20s.
Buttler a destructive batter who can destroy any attack.
Shaheen Afridi a total game changer with the New ball.
Rizwan the best wicket keeper in the world alongside his batting.

I disagree

It’s Mohammad Rizwan

Okay, I agree with you because SKY batting position is low that he doesn't get as much chance. My best t20 team would be:

Jos Buttler(wkt)
David Warner
Babar Azam( Kane not needed)
Glenn Maxwell
SKY
Hetmyer( lol at Pandya because he hasn't done much recent times didn't played any game of late, in IPL he is injured from two games and scored at slow rate)
Rashid Khan
??( Lockie, Bravo maybe)
Shaheen
Hazelwood
Bumrah

I am sure you missed Hazelwood there.

Pant is the best.

In tests, yes.

But this thread is about T20s. I got it right earlier too proving I don't hype anyone mindlessly. From Indian point of view, he is the best in this format :kp

India captain Rohit Sharma was in fine touch in the first T20I against West Indies and he went on to play a knock of 64 runs off just 44 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. Along the course of this innings, Rohit surpassed New Zealand batter Martin Guptill to become the leading run-scorer in men's T20Is. Rohit now has 3,443 runs in the shortest format in 129 matches with 27 fifties and 4 centuries.

On the other hand, Guptill has 3,399 runs in 116 matches with the help of 20 fifties and 3 centuries. Rohit's average is 32.48 while Guptill's average is 32.37.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli is in the third spot with 3,308 runs to his name in 99 matches at an astounding average of 50.12.

Ireland's Paul Stirling is in the fourth spot on the list with …

Buttler, Rashid, Maxwell.

Hazlewood's stock has been rising in last 2 years.

There's a definite fear factor involved every time one of these names is in the opposition.

The ship has sailed for Russell, Narine, Miller, and co.

Expecting David, Livingstone, Rossouw, Topley, Shaheen, Bumrah to garner some fearsome reputation in the format.

Pant is the best in t20s that's why he has been given many chances which is fair enough.

Australia great Shane Watson has revealed the five players he would select first if given the unenviable task of choosing a World T20I XI.

Watson is renowned as one of Australia's best white-ball players of all time, and the star all-rounder further strengthened his credentials by showcasing his talents in various domestic T20 leagues around the world for over a decade.

In recent times, Watson has turned to coaching to nurture the best limited-overs players in the world and the 41-year-old only this year joined the Delhi Capitals as their assistant coach in the Indian Premier League.

Watson uses that role to keep a close eye on the best T20I players around the world and is eagerly awaiting the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

Speaking on the latest episode of The ICC Review, Watson was asked by host Sanjana Ganesan to select the first five players he would choose to play for a World T20I XI in Australia.

1. Babar Azam (Pakistan) – ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 1
"First one I’d pick would be Babar Azam," Watson said. "He’s the No.1 T20I batsman in the world, and he just knows how to dominate.

"It’s like he’s not even taking any risks, and he scores incredibly quickly against the best bowlers in the world.

"He’s going to do very well in Australian conditions (during the T20 World Cup) as well, as his technique is very much built for Australian conditions."

2. Suryakumar Yadav (India) – ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 2
"Second one is Suryakumar Yadav," Watson noted. "He’s batting incredibly well, and he would be my No.2 pick.

"But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if (India team-mate) KL Rahul explodes in the T20 World Cup in Australia, because he’s got the game to dominate in these conditions in Australia."

3. David Warner (Australia) – ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 40
"No.3 is David Warner," Watson said.

"He won the Player of the Tournament in the last men’s T20 World Cup, with the Aussies winning, and has scored some great runs for the Delhi Capitals (in the IPL) as well.

"He’s going to have plenty of fire in his belly to make his mark in a T20 World Cup at home, so he’s going to be ready to go."

4. Jos Buttler (England) – ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 17
"No.4 for me is going to be Jos Buttler," Watson said. "During the IPL, well a lot of times anyway, no one could get him out.

"Four hundreds has only been done once before in an IPL, with Virat Kohli doing that (in 2016).

"When he’s in form, and he has been in form, he’s just about impossible in T20 cricket to get out. He can hit wherever he wants off the best bowlers in the world.

"And he knows Australian conditions really well, he’s played the Big Bash and did very well a few years ago, when I played with him at the Sydney Thunder.

"So Jos Buttler is going to dominate."

5. Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan) – ICC T20I Bowling Ranking: 13
"And the last one is Shaheen Afridi," Watson said. "His wicket-taking ability is something special.

"We saw in the last men’s T20 World Cup his ability to be able to get the best batsmen out with that brand new ball. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t really dominate in Australian conditions, with the ball swinging around and fast, bouncy wickets.

"My only little concern with him is, if he doesn’t take wickets to start with, then he can tail off a little bit.

"But I’m sure he’s been working on that. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t dominate here."

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the player with the highest average in the T20I format of cricket. He accomplished this feat during his side's Group A tie against Hong Kong in Dubai during the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. In this match, Virat Kohli showed glimpses of his old self and hit 59* off 44 balls, consisting of one four and three sixes. Now in 101 matches, Virat has scored 3,402 runs in T20Is at an average of 50.77. He has 31 half-centuries in the format, with the best individual score of 94*. He has a strike rate of 137.12.

He has overtaken Pakistani batter Mohammed Rizwan, who has an average of 50.14 in 57 matches. They are followed by Devon Conway of New Zealand (average of 47.20 in 23 matches), star Pakistan batter Babar Azam (average of 44.93 in 75 matches) and Indian batter Manish Pandey (average of 44.31 in 39 matches).

Apart from this, Kohli also scored his 31st half-century on Wednesday, equalling the record with Rohit Sharma for scoring the most 50-plus scores in T20Is.

Anyone in form is the best player. This format is purely form based more than other formats. You don't have room for "finding your form" back in this format.

Top 5 T20I player :

1. Kohli
2. Rizwan
3. Conway
4. Babar
5. Manish

Manish Pandey is in same league as Babar, hence proved.

In T20Is, some players have got good average while others have got pretty good strike rate. And then there are players who don't have either but they still are in the team because of potential. :ab :inti

Two Indians feature in Ricky Ponting's top five World T20I players

ICC Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting has chosen the five players he would select first if given the task of choosing a World T20I team.

Boasting a legendary record in white-ball cricket of his own, Ponting was also skipper of Australia for the first-ever men’s T20I, making 98* (55) in a match-winning performance.

Now spending a lot of his time in coaching dugouts and commentary boxes, Ponting watches as much T20 cricket as anyone and uses both roles to keep close tabs on the world’s best.

Speaking on the latest episode of The ICC Review, Ponting was asked to select the first five players he would choose for a World T20I team – and perhaps to the shock of some there is no Australian players in his quintet.

1. Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) - ICC T20I Bowling Ranking: 3

“Five players is relatively easy, but trying to put them in order from one to five makes it a little bit more difficult,” Ponting begins.

“I've actually gone with Rashid Khan at number one, and the reason I thought about that was if we actually had a player event in an IPL auction now and there was no salary cap, he's probably the one that's going to go for the most amount of money.”

“I've got him at number one for his consistency, his wicket-taking ability over a long period of time, but also the fact that his economy rate in the T20 game is just outstanding.

“When you're playing against any team that he's playing in you probably have less sleep that night than you do for any other game that you play during the year.”

2. Babar Azam (Pakistan) - ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 1

“Babar Azam I'll go for at number two, simply because the number one ranked batter in the T20 game for quite a while now and deservedly so.”

“His record speaks for itself. He's pretty much led the way for that Pakistan team for the last couple of years”

3. Hardik Pandya (India) - ICC T20I All-Rounder Ranking: 5

“On current form, it's pretty hard to go past Hardik Pandya at number three”

“His IPL was outstanding. To see him back at the bowling crease is something that I was always a little bit unsure would actually ever happen … he's had some really big injury setbacks, which has obviously affected how much he's been able to play for India.

“But he’s back bowling, and at 140kph which he was doing four or five years ago. But his batting and his maturity while batting has come on in leaps and bounds.

“He understands the game better and he understands his game better than ever before and right now he's probably the best allrounder in the world in T20 cricket, and could potentially be in ODI cricket.”

4. Jos Buttler - ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 16

“I had to pick Jos Buttler in there actually.”

“When you’re coaching against him, you just know that he's got something that a lot of other players don't have; the ability to take the game away in a short period of time opening the batting - which he will do for England this tournament.

“He was one of the people who’s an out-and-out match winner as we saw with last year's IPL, making three or four hundreds, which was quite remarkable.

“His batting went to another level in the last year or so.”

5. Jasprit Bumrah - ICC T20I Bowling Ranking: 37

“Jasprit Bumrah in at number five.”

“He is probably the most complete bowler across Test cricket, One Day cricket and T20 cricket in the world right now. Very good with the new ball when anyone decides to use him that way.

“India might think of giving him an over with the new ball in Australia (at the T20 World Cup) where it might swing but what you can guarantee is a couple of great high quality death overs, which every team is looking for - someone that can execute slow balls and bouncers.”

Strange he doesn't pick any Aussies. They are the reigning world champions!

With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup less than two weeks away, Australia legend Adam Gilchrist has chosen the first five players he would pick in a dream World T20I XI.

A man who revolutionised the game with his work with both bat and wicket-keeping gloves, Gilchrist enjoyed a legendary white-ball career for Australia, winning three Cricket World Cup titles. In the T20 game, Gilchrist showed his qualities in the format's infancy, boasting a strike-rate of over 140.

Now a Fox Cricket commentator, Gilchrist has overseen a wealth of T20 cricket, and named players from five different countries in his quintet.
49th

“He’s at the top of the order," Gilchrist said.

“I think just his attacking attitude, the way he kick-starts innings at the top, and the confidence he’ll have from the previous T20 World Cup.”

2. Babar Azam (Pakistan) - ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 3th

“His versatility across all formats, but also when it’s getting down to T20 cricket, just across all conditions, I think he can play all conditions really well," Gilchrist noted.

3. Hardik Pandya (India) - ICC T20I All-Rounder Ranking: 4th

“Pandya is just an awesome figure straight across the board," Gilchrist said.

“His ability to bat, bowl, field and entertain, he’s definitely in there.”

4. Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) - ICC T20I Bowling Ranking: 4th

“He’s just got to be there in any T20 team, doesn’t he?" Gilchrist said.

“Cricketer of the year in this format across the world. Over the last decade, Rashid Khan is in there.”

5. Jos Buttler (England) - ICC T20I Batting Ranking: 21st

“It’s a bit batting heavy I know, but Jos Buttler for me," Gilchrist added.

“He is just dynamic, his power and his courage to take it on. Simply a stroke of brilliance from him and its game over."

Gilchrist is the most recent star of the game to list his first five players picked in a dream T20I XI, following in the footsteps of Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson and Mahela Jayawardena as former greats to have given their view on the difficult task.

Australia legend Mark Waugh puts forward his top five T20I players
Fellow Australian Waugh only listed two players the same as Gilchrist - Rashid Khan and Jos Buttler - while Ponting had four players in common with his former team-mate when speaking with host Sanjana Ganesan on The ICC Review.

Watson had three players in his five that were in common with Gilchrist, while Jayawardena had only two players in common when he was asked to list his five players earlier in the year.

Most fifty-plus scores in men's T20Is in 2022:
Mohammed Rizwan - 8 in 14 innings.
Suryakumar Yadav - 7 in 23 innings.

Batsman: Suryakumar
Bowler: Rashid
All-rounder: Pandya

Jos Butler is back

No.21 ranked batsman in the world

'Buttler best white-ball player in the world' (Buttler 68(32))

Alex Hales, speaking to BT Sport...

"It was amazing to see Jos back. He has been out of action for a couple of months so for him to come back and make batting look as easy as that was really good to watch. He is the best white-ball player in the world, in my opinion, so to get the chance to open with him for my country is a great feeling. I was nervous before the game so it was nice to start well."

1. Batsman: Butler
2. Bowler: Haris/Bumrah(when fit)/Shaheen
3. Allrrounder: Shadab/Pandaya

There are so many good batsmen with different strengths eg. Buttler in top order, surya Or russow in middle order, david Miller or Tim David as finishers etc. so it's foolish too pick one imo.

Fast Bowler - Harish rauf and Nathan ellis for their t20 bowling skills.
Spin bowler - rashid khan
Allrounder - pandya because nobody else
is good enough.

One ring to rule them all

One batsman to rule them all

Jos Butler

Rizwan is the best in the world right now. He has been the most consistent player in the history of t20is.
Haris rauf is the best bowler by far. He has been so consistent.

I am big fan of jos buttler but surya, markram and Miller got equally impressive numbers in last 3 years.
It's not one horse race imo.

This is the thing

If England find two players who can bat at 180+ in the powerplay, JB is more than good enough to readjust himself to 3-5 or even 6 if needed

He is the most versatile T20 batsman in the world for any position

Jos Butler.....he's the closest to prime AbD among all current players.

Highest men's T20I batting average since the start of 2019 (minimum 20 innings):

69.06 - David Warner
58.81 - Mohammad Rizwan
53.27 - Virat Kohli
50.87 - Devon Conway
47.04 - Jos Buttler

Butler's brutality is something. Clean, crisp hitting batsman. Although Malan is ahead of him in the rankings, i don't think Malan is anywhere close Buttler.

No. I disagree with that. Buttler as an opener in t20s is better than buttler in middle order in t20s.

He struggled in the past as a middle order player in t20s. his past numbers prove it.

I think ICC need to get rid of T20i rankings or then also produce a Franchise league ranking table

Buttler is a fine choice.
Warner isn't that bad also. Won the last world cup for his team and is in form.

T20 active players XI :-

David Warner
Jos Buttler
Virat Kohli
Glenn Maxwell
Hardik Pandya :inti
David Miller
Wanindu Hasarnaga
Rashid Khan
Shaheen Shah
Josh Hazelwood
Jasprit Bumrah

There should be a way to identify "catch up" strike rate kings lol Dhoni does that trick very well He would plod around till 18th over then will have a 20 run over and make his strike rate look good. If you look at the commentary thread of that match you would know how slow Dhoni was upfront. But it won't reflect on scorecard.
