Would it be Boult who inadvertently stepped on the boundary when Stokes was done for and agonizingly saw 6 overthrows conceded off his bowling and hence couldn’t defend 14 off the last over?

Would it be Guptill who saw his throw his Stokes bat and go for 6 overthrows and failed to finish the job with the bat with 2 required off 1 ball?

Would it be Taylor finished as 2007 SF’s, 2011 SF’s, 2015 Finalists and 2019 Finalists and May now never get a chance to win the WC?

Or would it be Williamson who had a great tournament with the bat but couldn’t win the tournament as captain and May also never get as good of a chance to win the WC as he did today?

Discuss!

I feel so sad for Boult he's such a good player and really tried. But he messed up at the crucial moments :(

Boult's casual attitude while taking the catch was infuriating.

As they say, some stress is good for you.

Trent Boult. He must be shattered completely. Thinking if this was done, if that was done.. Oh man, can feel for the guy!

Has to be Boult. He didnt really have a great day to be honest it was mainly other bowlers that even setup the tie.

That six. He could have just stopped the 4. And that super over wasnt great at all. 16 run chase is too much to leave.

Lockie Furgoeson

He bowled his heart out today and should have bowled the super over

To lose a WC on boundaries...

How do you even go from there? I feel numb, I don't know how you can possibly lose worse...

How are you feeling? I will need sleeping pills even I am not Newzilander but i was supporting Nz today.

Devastated.

This is literally the worst thing that can happen in the sport and it happened to us...

Willaimson... gave his all.. the complete all... and to come this close and not grab the trophy ... ahhh.. those fine fine margins...

It is like a game 7 of the NBA finals decided on the basis of the number of 3-points. Silly stuff.

I think it is Indians and Pakistanis.

Boult would be feeling incredibly guilty for not swallowing that one. Can't do much about the boundary off Morgan.

I feel for the players... they didn't deserve to lose and to lose because of one of the dumbest rules in the game is going to be a tough pill swallow.

What other rule do you want instead of this?

Before it was the wickets rule which people complained about so was changed to this one, now you're complaining about this too. Smh.

Looks like people are never happy unless the outcome fits their narrative.

Two culprits and both of them had sheepy looks at the end. Trent Boult and Martin Guptill lost the game for NZ. Boult with his failed six catch also gave away 29 runsnin his last two overs including super over. Guptill couldn't score 2 off 1 ball being a premier batsman.

Don't worry mate, the rules were decided before. It's dumb but that's what Pak felt with NRR aheadh of H2H

Boundaries is worse than wickets...

Boundaries is so random, what's next? Most caught and bowled?

Martin guptill, that one ball could have made him a hero or zero, unfortunately it was the latter one.

Not to forget the selfish terrible review that Guptill stole from the team. The reason why Taylor got out. Man ...these two culprits Guptill and Boult are the reason why NZ lost. Everybody else played out of their skins.

The thing that annoys me the most is that both rules are going to be changed.

Too late though, it's already decided a WC.

It's a failure and completely on the incompetence of the ICC.

Guptil did his part in the super over.

His running at the non strikers end was phenomenal. No other batsman would complete 2s the way he did

Super over until there's a result. NBA has it, regular season games have had multiple OTs, this is a World Cup. Poor planning by ICC.

Boult. Feel bad for him. He actually didn't bowl that badly during the regular match. The super over wasn't great though. The catch however is a regrettable moment, he's much better than that. You can tell from his reaction that he thought he was further away from the boundary rope than he actually was, when he looked back and realized, it was too late.

Boult, he should have held the catch, ultimately the guy who hit the six, and another off the back of his bat ;). He was the Trump card, ended up being the most expensive. Still my favourite bowler in the world.

Everyone to be honest but I think someone that would be really heartbroken is Ross Taylor most likely his last World Cup and last chance to win a World Cup

Keep repeating the super over until their is a winner

In all knockout soccer games - the penalty shootout keeps going until their is a winner. Not sure why the Incompetent Cricket Council cannot benchmark such a practice...

Aman, I feel for you. I know this hurts a lot right now. But at the end of the day, you should be proud of the absolutely brilliant performance put in by your team.

New Zealand has a population of approx 4 million. That's about half the population of London. Add to that the fact that Rugby is main sport for New Zealand and you are damn good at it. The fact that they almost won this World Cup, on the way beating the best 11 players from a nation with 1.2 billion, is astonishing in itself.

Take a bow New Zealand. You were sensational.

In my opinion a team hitting more boundaries is not a reflection of a better team while the previous rule of lesser no of wickets was better as it actually counted something decently valuable like runs per wicket and team loosing less number for wickets for same runs was decided as the winner.

I'm proud of the team, the thing that hurts is how we lost and the thought of this being the closest we ever get to winning. I don't think we'll win in my lifetime and I will forever have this etched in my head and how close we were and the what ifs..

I agree that the rules about boundaries is a stupid one. However I wouldn't focus too much on that, but would just think that luck wasn't on New Zealand's side today and was very much on England's side. It sucks when a World Cup game is decided on luck but hey, it happens. New Zealand got some luck to get through to the knockout stages too. At the end of the day, we must all remember that it is only a game and as important as winning is, there are more important things in life.

As far as NZ future prospects are concerned, I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Without any batsmen except Williamson firing, they almost won. Imagine what they could do with a few more players firing. This is no fluke either - remember New Zealand were runners up last time too. So they have every chance of winning a future edition.

Yep it hurts even though I'm not a kiwi. They've always been my second team. Even if NZ had won on boundaries, it is a farce. Winning on wickets would've been a farce as well. I want to see a team actually win, even if it takes 3 super overs. The rule will be different in the next tournament but too little too late for the kiwis.

They shouldn't feel bad though, they should leave with heads held high. Kismat mey nahi tha.

People I've talked to are filthy about the dumb boundaries rule.
Agreed. Majority of PP was with Kiwis today. I’m also heartbroken and feel sad. That bat deflection and then boundary rule. In a mega event like a wc semi final and final it should be two super overs (4 in total).

Is NZ public really heartbroken? Or they will get over by tomorrow? I’m curious to find out how serious people in NZ take their cricket.

This will haunt Williamson and co forever.

Wouldnt have been sad if England had won fair and square and it had ended like any other normal match of the world cup.

These were extra ordinary moments and didnt look good or Just as a fan of cricket. Kiwis were robbed in broad daylight.

If Pakistan is not destined to win 2020 WT20, I hope Williamson takes that trophy home.

Boundary rule is a ridiculous one and if a ball deflects off batsman’s body or bat - runs should never count. I always thought it was like this until that moment.
