Who should open with Ahmed Shehzad against India?

Who should open with Ahmed Shehzad for Pakistan in their opening Champions Trophy match against India?
 
Azhar Ali - you cannot put FZ in such a high intensity game - too much to ask.
 
Why are you assuming Ahmed Shehzad opening is a given?
 
Unfortunately it will be Azhar and he will happily score 15(30)

For the umpteenth time Fahim isn't good enough to be a third seamer.
 
Hafeez, Haris should come at 4 and then we will see how good Indian pacers are against quality players of pace.

Okay, remove him for Junaid Khan. Is that not a good team? I know we will never play that many batsmen as we always have such crap strategy.
 
Hafeez and Azhar ( because of weather) otherwise throw in Fakhar n hafeez . I would rather try to get haris in the line up than play shezzy

Sarfraz is a walking wicket as opener. He and Malik are needed in the middle overs to milk the spinners. Azhar can atleast last and dull the ball.
 
As much as I hate to admit to this but if Shehzad is opening for sure then Hafeez needs to partner him so that we can slot Haris in the middle.
 
Hopefully shehzad doesn't open either. I'd rather have Fakhar and hafeez (both of whom I don't rate but are better than shehzad and azhar) so that Haris can play at 4

But i think Shehzad will open with Hafeez.

Opening with Shehzad and Azhar will be the worst possible decision, it means

- Most probably slow start
- Fragile middle order with Haris missing out
- Hafeez will play at 3 pushing Babar Azam down the order
- Sarfraz will bat lower down the order where he struggles

Perfect team but I'd probably Swap Haris's and Sarfraz's batting Position. Harris @6 is a total waste and does not necessarily suite his natural game.

Yes it does but Sarfraz lower down the order is a complete waste, he has to move up the order pushing either Haris or Malik down. Malik can actually hit big shots if required especially against spinners.
 
Salman Butt should open.. its best that PCB flys out Sharjeel Khan as well ASP.

I am expecting hafeez to fail with the bat in the whole series.

Shehzad and azhar will score some slow runs though , expecting azhar to hit a ton against india.

8 batsmen and 8 who can bowl. Nice combination. Personally I would want sarfraz to promote himself up in the order, would be a fine opener, with a deep batting line up. Hoping for a thriller come this Sunday. In sha'Allah we will come out on top.

Shehzad is awful but he cemented his place in the warm up game. He will be out for <20 or if he does get more than 20 it will be at snail's place. Hafeez should open with him. Zaman didn't get a chance in the warm ups.
 
When Dhoni exploited Haris's weakness in the 2015 WC and Sharjeel's weakness against spin I think genuinely think Fakhar will get worked out by Kohli. Might as well put Hafeez as opener.

I would think this is a must for Pakistan. The track is so flat, ball coming straight onto the bat. No swing, no movement and no big name to worry Hafeez at the back of his mind. I think such a track is Tailor made for Hafeez to play his shots and back himself to play through the line.

My line up for Sunday,

2. Shahzad
3. Babar
4. Fakhar
5. Malik
6. Imad
7. Fahim
8. Shadab
9. Amir
10. Hassan
11. Junaid/Riaz

I have my doubts over Fakhar's long-term future in international cricket, but I would pick him over Azhar in this Champions Trophy and ask him to cut lose. We need someone to fill the void of the fat fixer, and first impressions are important. Whilst Fakhar is not as gifted as him, he can certainly hit the ball a lot better than Azhar, who will take Pakistan nowhere regardless of how many runs he scores.

In addition, Fakhar has a background in armed forces. Perhaps he will have the mental strength to handle the nerves of playing India on debut.

I think Hafeez and Ahmed should open. We could play an additional bowler or Batsman.

Also it's very vital that only one of Azhar and Ahmed play. If Hafeez opens, Haris Sohail can come in at #4 or #5.
 
Anyone but Azhar, I can just see his slow knock of 10 (25) before getting bowled out. Fakhar is too inexperienced to be dropped into opening so if Pakistan can actually make a sensible decision in moving Hafeez or even Sarfraz as opener. Shehzad is hardly a good opener.
 
Azhar shouldn't be near team and darn im seeing his press conferences like hes the skipper. If he plays dont expect us to score anywhere 300.
 
Hafeez won't last an over against Bhuvi.

Gamble with Fakhar. And pair him with Azhar.

1. Junaid - Domestic teams are even not picking him due to less pace and very high economy
2. Azhar - Too slow

Hopefully no Shehzad. Azhar and Hafeez will most likely open
 
It's going to be Azhar with his useless tuk tuk batting. I hope he either scores quickly or gets out quickly, otherwise he will be detrimental to the team's cause
 
prof is the good opener u will see the opening partnership more than 100 runs i am very confident pakistan will perform very high level
 
I would have Imran farhat over Azhar and Shahzad thats how bad these two are.

Fakhar should open, but our new ODI captain is also spineless so it won't happen.

Its true for both Shehzad and Azhar. Shehzad is worse than azhar when it comes to tuk tuk.
