Best batsmen in order of merit at no 7 position in test cricket

1.Adam Gilchrist
2.Wasim Raja
3.Jeff Dujon
4.Ian Botham
5.Chris Cairns
6.Kapil Dev
7.Mahendra Singh Dhoni
8.Imran Khan
9.Rodney Marsh
10.Ian Healy

Adam Gilchrist was the supreme king averaging over 60 for the 1st half of his career and turning the complexion of game 360 degrees on several occasions.Few better match-winners ever in the history of the game like Gilly who could step the gas before you could say Jack Robinson.Wasim Raja was an outstanding performer against the best attack or team not only of his day but arguably of all time.Averaged 57.44 against them which is phenomenal.Jeff Dujon was an epitome of constituency playing major role in the supremacy of West Indian cricket even as a batsmen.Botham created the impact of a Hercules even when his team faced a crisis and his few blows could win games for England.Above all he blended explosive power with high technical skill.Chris Cairns was very much in the Botham mould taking bowling attacks to the shreds.Mahendra Singh Dhoni was one of the hardest hitters in the history of the game and a master in a crisis.Kapil Dev was flamboyance personified would have been close to the top but for inconsistency At his best he was the ultimate master blaster even against top quality pace.Imran Khan wa srestrained but still technical correct and extremely responsible.Rodney Marsh on his day came out with gems and was very pleasing to the eye.Ian Healy was one of the gutsiest of cricketers of his day .

Overall to me the blending of the audacious power of Gilchrist with the feline grace of Wasim Raja would make the perfect no 7 batsmen.Coincidentally both are left-handers.

Disagree with your comments on MSD. He wasn't a master in crisis, especially overseas. He mostly failed when he was needed.

I will go with Gilly.

Of course it helped that he played for an ATG team, but average of 47+ with 80+ SR is no joke. 17 centuries, 12 of which that came at 7. Just outstanding.
