Had South Africa won, and not tied, the semi-final match in the 1999 World Cup, who in your opinion would have got the player of the match award? Here is the scorecard for an overview:

Quite a few contenders who contributed at different stages, but Lance Klusener's innings stood out; particularly with the consecutive fours smashed on the first two balls of the last over.

Especially hoping for replies from those who watched the match live.

It would have been Shaun Pollock for 5 wickets he got in that game and a small quickfire cameo with bat too.

Kallis played a good inning but batted way too slowly and that meant everyone had to go berserk later on, only for a brainfade run-out to mess up things in the end.

But I guess Australia winning that day have done more good to the game which might not have been the case with South Africa winning as that Australian team turned out to be one of the greatest teams in next 10 years or so.

Also, I feel there is a trend in the World Cup finals where a captain leads by example and the more successful performance by a captain on that day is the one who generally goes to win the game. We have seen it in 2015 WC Final when McCullum failed to set an example and got out for a duck and Clarke chased down the total or in 2011 WC Final when MSD got a hundred or 2003 WC when Ponting hit a 140.

Cronje got a duck that day while Steve Waugh played a very good knock with bat.

I think Pollock. Him and Allan Donald getting regular breakthroughs was one of the reasons that the target was a chaseable one. Also if he had stayed for a couple more overs, SA would've own. Got out to an inside edge.

Probably the best ODI match I have ever seen.

As others have said, Pollock seems the obvious choice. Though Klusener also would have been a contender because of the way he would have won the game for SA in that scenario.

SA shot themselves in the foot after letting Klusenar bat low again and again. He should have been sent up the order considering the form he was in.
