Why are top class performances in domestic by former players completely disregarded by selectors?

Now, this is an extremely important matter, at least so in my eye. Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Asif, Ahmed Shehzad, Khurram Manzoor, Aizaz Cheema, Imran Farhat, Umar Akmal and so many other players have been phenomenal in the domestic structure. And one of them in particular stands out; Kamran Akmal.

He has bullied bowlers in the premier First Class tournament; the Quaid-e-Azam trophy for the past 3-4 seasons, he has been extremely successful in the LA tournaments, in the 20/20 tournaments and even in the PSL where he demolished all bowlers, international or domestic - good or bad. Now I don't say this as a fan of him or any of the 'TTF' cricketers we have but should their amazing performances be completely disregarded?

Aizaz Cheema was brilliant in the PSL and now in the First Class tournament but will be ignored for even the T20 team and while I don't personally want him back, does this not send the wrong message? We are not necessarily picking players on the basis of merit, but rather ability.

It doesn't matter if you've topped the run charts for 10 seasons but if the coach sees more ability in a rookie player who has 7 ducks in his last 10 games, the rookie gets selected. And while the rookie may well be a 100 times better player and may even score more runs in the international arena, does it not send the wrong message when you consistently and conveniently ignore top performers just because they are TTF's?

Discuss.

Disclaimer: I am not warranting a comeback for any former players, just asking a simple question.

One reason could be because stats aren't everything. Players may not top the charts but if they look like they have good technique etc and the selectors feel a player would be good enough for Internationals they can still get picked..

Selectors always resorted to TTF's because the argument was there is no talent in Pakistan.

Then guys like Kamran, Umar Akmal, etc... would not perform on the international stage. Yet they kept getting picked because apparently they were the best in the country as going by their domestic stats.

Clearly that approach was not working.

K Akmal has been the worst international player for Pakistan by a country mile.

No thank you

We all see just recently how umar akmal was manhandled in T10 by international bowlers.
Same with kamran as he failed miserably in international cricket.

Because, the situation the OP has mentioned rarely happens.
Every ex-player has made at least one comeback. If you fail after a comeback it should be clear that there's something very wrong in your game that is not exposed in domestic cricket but easily in international cricket.
I suppose the only exception to this are Butt and Asif. And I would rather they both stay away.
