Why do Asian teams play so many T20Is?

The top 5 teams based on number of T20Is played during the period are all Asian teams?

Is this what we'll see in the future?

And it's understandable for other teams, due to the lack of funds, but we(India) despite being a strong team financially have played the most number of T20Is. And some of our fans say that we don't take T20is seriously. Go fly a kite!

India 37
Pakistan 30
Sri Lanka 27
Afghanistan 25
Bangladesh 24

And we are leading the number 2 team (based on number of matches)by some distance, 7 matches more than Pakistan. Ridiculous!

And we don't even play the #1 team Pak, but play minnows like SL and BANGLADESH thousands of times, who are ranked 9th and 10th. Utter disgrace on the name of cricket this!

Asians would be the ones to introduce T10 cricket, it looks like.

More than playing these many T20Is, what irks me the most is the insistence of Indian team management to mostly play the same set of players, especially batsmen, in these T20s. On one hand we have the coach claiming we do not take T20s seriously, and yet he and the captain are so reluctant to try out young talent.

Boggles my mind that we still have Rohit Sharma, Raina, Karthik and Dhoni playing T20s for us 11 years after the inaugural WT20. This despite us not winning a single WT20 event since then. Other teams have had perhaps two generation of batsmen come in and go out in the same period!

Why should Raina and Dhoni be playing these T20s after being woeful in the last few years? Guess it's a lot of insecurity. If youngsters picked for T20s start to do well, these players will see their ODI career under threat as well.

Its common knowledge that Indians do not value International T20s as much as they value IPL. Playing International games helps the oldies keep themselves relevant and allows them to showcase their talent for the IPL auction.

Look at Yusuf Pathan who got relegated in IPL after he lost his national spot. He still has it in him but is still out of favor. IPL won't allow him to smash minnows, he needs some big games against International teams to showcase his potential.

We play a lot of cricket. Period. We also play more tests than any other country apart from England and Australia. I think 3t20's every series is a bit too much though.

We don't play a lot of cricket, but we're set to play 59 T20Is over 5 years.

NZC are cutting back on Tests.

Asian teams also play lots of odis.

For comparison, Sangakkara in his 16 years of career has played 400+ odis.

Ganguly in his 12 years of career(1996-2007) played 311 odis.

Inzamam in his 17 years of career played 378 odis.

In comparison, Kallis in his 17 years of career has played only 328 odis.

Lara in his 17 years of career played only 299 odis.

Even look at the difference in ODI matches played between de Villiers and Kohli in the time- period.

Australia played lots of odis in Ponting/Gilchrist era however.

T20 series' are quick cash cows for the boards of the respective countries. Pretty obvious really. It's also easier to get a T20 series with other nations, over a test or ODI series.

Basically this. Money rules the world unfortunately

Money is a very unfortunate short-hand that T20 haters keep throwing around here.

The reality is PEOPLE like the T20 and PEOPLE want to watch it.

All this money wouldn't be there if there weren't millions of viewers who preferred this to other formats.

Believe India fielded 2nd string team during Nidahas trophy and same is the case in other series against SL..etc where kohli & co were rested and rohit handled the captaincy

Its a good policy to try new players and rest main ones in t20 and India did very good job in this front
