Why does Babar Azam go into his shell when he plays in Tests?

It's not the first time I heard this about Babar.

So why doesn't someone/batting coach pull him aside and tell him to play his natural game and to not look to survive whenever he comes out to bat?

Surely someone can see what is happening to him? Right?

He is still finding his feet at Test level. Give him another year or two and he will be playing freely. Right now, he might be surviving just so that he will not get booted out of the team.

Overhyped player. Not even half as good as people hype him to be. FC record tells us his real quality.

Has always been timid at the crease, in all formats he's played, except when he's played ODIs against West Indies (a mediocre team in itself).

Perhaps to the emulate the outdated recipe of Shafiq, Misbah and Azhar of strolling at snails pace without any concern of match situation/pitch/opposition bowlers.

Needs to find his own at the Test level, seems confused at the crease. Hopefully he can rectify that in near future. Although seeing him totally clueless against spin is surely a worry.

Need to give him time. Even Kohli and Smith looked like goons out there for a bit in whites. The kid showed his mettle in NZ with a compact 90 where everyone else failed in that innings. It was a slow 90, but the conditions were hostile.

It seems like he has issues vs spin as well if I'm honest. Even in ODIs he plays pace pretty well but as soon as they bring in a spinner he feels halted.

That's genuinely what he looks like when he bats in Tests.

Will be interesting how he and the batting coach try changing his approach in future matches.

Has got good enough technique against pacers for no 3. And playing in UAE will hone his game against spin.

Mixture of inexperience and ability not quite a test level batsman currently wasn't too good in FC before test debut that can change with more matches at the top level.

I completely agree, he isn’t a test player at all. Needs to work on his game.

People are hating this guy because he was hailed as the second coming of some ATG batsmen even though he doesn't have fc performance to back up and neither has he shown any glimpse of an emerging world class bat till now.
