When electric cremation is available why so much wood has to be burnt in funeral pyre to pollute the air?

Why burn so much wood in lohri/holi ?

Why burn firecrackers during Diwali?

Why can't you people see the obvious and take a stand for the betterment of your own country's environment and contribute your bit in this global cause.

Why are you Indians so ignorant and selfish that you would rather take offense to tbese5 issues rather than correcting them

Please answer who ever on this forum considers himself a true son of India.

You Indians? Lol
Well you are right , the issue is everyone can point fingers at others , for example why don't you use public transportation and not your car, why allow factory farming at such large scale etc etc.

Collective actions for all religions need to be done, I saw a house burnt 2002 in Diwali and have never touched crackers since then, but it's a personal choice also cracker sales have declined massively, so yeah it's going down on it's own, Unless one is CHINA no one can bring in immediate change.

Hope you start the initiative and start using public transport Bhaijaan.

I have started bursting crackers since the last two years when I saw the cacophony from the convent educated warriors. This diwali also will contribute to the holy smog in the delhi region.

Public transport comes later. My car is my luxury while me burning all the wood om funeral and in festivals is mg arrogance to harm the environment for something that brings no luxury to me.

I will take care of my air condition usage and my dependence on petrolchemicals after i have stopped wasting resources for useless things.

Over and out.

CC my bro you too will be the victim of the same smoke. Become a bigger man. You can do it. I see the fire in you.

MS bhai, the discomfort of others gives me more happiness than my own comfort. especially if it is the convent educated folks who waste water while flushing and showering, instead of using buckets, and can't live without AC, talking about the environment. We paindus are more eco friendly than these burgers, so we will continue with our festivals, come what may.

It's a troll thread.
Pollution due to cremation doesn't even figure in the top 10 list of most polluting sources.
Fossil fuel burning is the major cause.

Sad to see you subtly taking digs at Indian culture.
That's what premier colleges do to you.
You are no different from elitist snobs like JaDed Sanju Bhai.

It will be better in India if everyone follows environment friendly practices.

Respect to the OP for initiating a discussion against medieval Indian practices that should have no place in todays civilized era.

nothing subtle about it. paindus is not derogatory. i have lived a paindu lifestyle for the most part of my life.

The best thing that folks can do for the environment, climate change etc is have less kids.

The best thing they can do is stop consuming meat and dairy products. Waste of education and all the hard work if you don't give kids to the world.

Perhaps sparked by the energetic debate around the Bakra Eid thread where conscientious objectors intervened the celebrations with a timely reminder of the cruelty of the sacrifice and traumatising effect on minors to witness it.

I too have promised to raise a similar note when the Christmas celebration comes round with the ritual slaughter and carving of the turkey. Freelance bro is doing his bit here to bring Hindus into the 21st century so now we have some healthy inclusive discussion on varied fronts. Isn't this what PP should be all about?

2 kids is fine. Anyhting above that is a burden for majority of population. But people still have more kids without thinking about future. In a country like India, 1 kid is enough. We already have way too many people.

Courageous thread wow.

Its a sensible thread. Not courageous. We do not issue dictates over cultural practices.

Everyone in India should follow environment friendly practices. The pollution there is horrible. People suffer from a lot of respiratory illnesses. For old people, its a curse.

This is not a sensible thread. Count the total footprint of indians during a year. The chief offenders are the elite, who use SUV's, private transportation, ACs, water tubs etc, not the common person who commutes by bus and trains, has only fans and TV, and eats meat on special occassions. So when these elite convent educated pseudo activists talk about saving the environment, that is a big joke. chutzpah.

The poor are equally responsible. Auto Rickshaw drivers, truck drivers and owners, poor burning dry cow dung and wood as cooking fuel are equally responsible as the Rich SUV owners.

I can stand on a highway or a busy street in USA and still breath fresh air. Cannot even think of doing it on a busy street in Bangalore or Delhi. US has several times more cars than India.

These developed nations have done their pollution when they were developing. It is our time now. We will also stop pollution when nation gets developed.

lol at equating truck drivers with suv owners. one who is supplying essential goods and materials and the other who is transporting only his lazy fat posterior by guzzling diesel.

A little science lesson for you. Most electricity is produced by burning coal or oil, which similarly pollute the air.

The energy conversion from burning coal/oil to electricity is about 15% to 18%, so you have to burn about 6 times as much coal/oil to get the same electrical energy at the crematorium as you would by instead directly using wood.

How many of the e-activists have solar panel installed in their rooftops or societies?

All this bakwaas on forums is to project an image in a virtual world. Nothing in real.

70 percent of India's electricity is from thermal sources i.e produced from burning coal. Cant expect fools to grasp this simple concept though so let him troll.

The thing that is especially appalling is the failure to understand the inefficiency of the thermal energy -> electrical energy -> thermal energy chain.

If you burn coal that has say, 100 Joules of stored thermal energy, you will end up with about 15 to 18 joules of electrical energy, which after transmission losses will probably provide you about 14 joules at the crematorium.

In contrast, if you burn wood at the crematorium with 100 Joules of stored thermal energy, you will get all the 100 Joules.

This thread will soon turn ugly. Muslims already condemning religious practices of Hindu (one particular poster above) and as a backslash non Muslims will soon start questioning medieval practices of Islam and its impact on society.

This is why no one touches these subject even govt. It will be a opening of can of worms where repercussions are far dangerous and could be fatal leading to religious clashes.

Why ? Theres no need for Hindus to be sensitive as longs as its a respectful discussion. You can search for hundreds of threads on Islam being questioned on here .

Hindus like anyone else should practice their faith as they wish . But why use wood for cremation when there are other means which as quicker, easier, safer & better for the environment?

Indians! Tumhe mere sawalo ko jawab dena hoga. You will have to answer my questions.

All I see right now is a lot of people panicking and coming ho with the most shameful excuses.

Bhaijaan will ask tough questions.

Rightly said KK bro.

Sadly as already shown many Indians will use this as an excuse to target other communities because it is in the DNA of our people to point fingers at others instead of admitting their own faults first and to try to correct them. Despicable animals.

Going to make sure my contribution to the delhi smog is substantial during the coming winters.

Is wood an absolute requirement ? If not then it’s makes little sense to cut down trees. Or is it just tradition?

This last week i convinced Hussein to not kill Geeta the cow. He was also adamant and had given up hope just like you. I will convert you too. Your Bhaijaan will never give up on his brothers.

Always there.

Love kills hate.

Nearly 300kg-500 kg wood is burnt per cremation. So many trees are cut for this. Also the smoke polluted the atmosphere with poisonous gases.

Lastly the ashes are thrown in water bodies to further pollute the water.

It is a travesty and Hindus must wake up.

Perhaps we should start dissolving the dead?

And that is exactly what "taili gully ka bhaijaan" is doing here.

I am sure you have converted the thoughts of people in your surroundings and inspired them to use "gobar ke uple" from the same "geeta the cow" you saved from Hussein. :inti

That’s like saying how is Islam a religion of peace when they butcher millions of animals on bakra eid. A celebration build of killing animals. See how absurd it sounds?

Eid slaughtering is a cruel practice but when we raise voice against animak killing and suffering we cannot single out one religion because people from all communities are contributing daily in this.

Wait and it’s not cruel when Americans slaughter hundreds of millions of turkeys on thanks giving to just consoling it’s dry? But when Muslims do it to feed the poor and staving it’s cruel? Killing animals for food is in human dna to live and survive.

I thought you are also Indian , did not realize that you are not.

As a citizen of the country I can tell things are changing a lot. It is at transition phase but given the size and demography it will take time. Maybe another few decades unless some socio political revolution happens. Most lawmakers prefer to keep status quo when it comes to the local audience.

Lol he is indian

Then probably he stays outside of India and does not have much information on recent events. While environment pollution is rampant and certain cultural/religious practices significantly add to the problem, there are far bigger contributors in form of fossil fuel, unregulated construction, disposing and burning plastic and waste materials etc.

The pollution due to Diwali crackers is a serious problem and people are slowly moving away from it with rising awareness. Immersion of idols are already restricted to specific zone to avoid water pollution. Citizens are increasingly conscious of deforestation issues even though large scale urban construction still continues to do lot of damage.

All in all there are serious concerns with respect to pollution in India, but OP due to lack of information (hopefully not intent) has filtered the causes in a way which only makes this discussion subjective and not something where people can agree with the challenges and discuss on the resolutions.

There is often fine line of difference between truth and perception and it is indeed your choice what you want to lean to. Fair enough.

The truth still remains to exist though inspite of half cooked perceptions.

IPL teams telling others not to use fireworks yet they use them in the IPL opening and closing ceremonies lol. One rule for the elite another for the rest.

He is one of the most clueless politicians in India, and this government has plenty of his ilk.

He speaks gibberish all the time, and you don't see him adding any gravity to such an important ministry he is being foisted upon.

This government is a big fraud, led by the biggest fraud of all times.

The kind of illiteracy shown by these idiots is simply astounding.
