Pakistan's quest for a new coach has been a complete disaster.
They have sacked a coach who was previously good enough to coach both Australia and South Africa.
But no applicant of even mediocre calibre has applied for the job. None of the three applicants - Misbah-ul-Haq, Dean Jones and Mohsin Khan - would even get an interview if they applied to coach Bangladesh or Zimbabwe.
And yet there is a top class coach who might actually be receptive to the job.
Paul Farbrace coached Sri Lanka, including on the ill-fated tour when the team's bus was attacked in Lahore. In recent years he has been England's assistant coach and by universal acclaim was actually more effective than Trevor Bayliss, whom he supposedly assisted.
Bayliss' impending departure led Farbrace to take up the sporting director role at Warwickshire, to give himself job security.
But think about it. Here is a man who has been happy to coach an overseas tour and who was prepared to tour Pakistan.
And he has just taken up the top job at PCB CEO Wasim Khan's former club.
Why don't the PCB try to headhunt Farbrace instead of offering the job to one of the three existing - and inferior - applicants?
