Pakistan's quest for a new coach has been a complete disaster.

They have sacked a coach who was previously good enough to coach both Australia and South Africa.

But no applicant of even mediocre calibre has applied for the job. None of the three applicants - Misbah-ul-Haq, Dean Jones and Mohsin Khan - would even get an interview if they applied to coach Bangladesh or Zimbabwe.

And yet there is a top class coach who might actually be receptive to the job.

Paul Farbrace coached Sri Lanka, including on the ill-fated tour when the team's bus was attacked in Lahore. In recent years he has been England's assistant coach and by universal acclaim was actually more effective than Trevor Bayliss, whom he supposedly assisted.

Bayliss' impending departure led Farbrace to take up the sporting director role at Warwickshire, to give himself job security.

But think about it. Here is a man who has been happy to coach an overseas tour and who was prepared to tour Pakistan.

And he has just taken up the top job at PCB CEO Wasim Khan's former club.

Why don't the PCB try to headhunt Farbrace instead of offering the job to one of the three existing - and inferior - applicants?

Exactly!!!!
This is mainly because PCB is a corrupt/unprofessional board where there is no transparency prevail. That's why a member of coach selection committee can apply for the coaching job whenever he wants.
Also the candidates don't need to be qualified to fit for the position
The organization members are too busy to spend on forming unnecessary committee, foreign tours....so they will never have enough money to find a good coach.
Only in Pakistan a current player can certainly becomes coach without have any coaching experience but demand more money than professional coaches.

Still need to see how things unfold.

The PCB has done tremendous work over the past few months. But this coaching decision might turn out to be one of their biggest mistakes.

Because he's no good and will likely have problems staying in Pakistan.

Misbah is a good candidate. PCB needs to hire him and be done with it.

If Farbrace was such a great and effective coach then why didn't England appoint him as Bayliss's successor? Especially considering he was offered the head-coach job by Bangladesh nearly a year back and he declined it on the grounds that he was going to become England head-coach and yet he didn't.

The guy is an assistant level coach. And no he was not Sri Lanka's coach during that ill-fated tour, it was actually Trevor Bayliss. Farbrace was his assistant even back then.

Does he want the schedule that comes with an international coaching job ?

Wow, a full decade on and still in the same place. There has to be a reason no international team wants him.

He is coaching in county cricket due to wanting to be with his family as far as I understand. He quit his England role just before the WC. He wont be interested in coaching Pakistan.

Do your research before making threads.

No sensible person would want to be anywhere near to be associated with the PCB knowing fully how this organisation functions and is influenced by several factors.

Get over it! Misbah is the main man now & all supporters need to unite & give the guy a chance , fgs stop throwing names around since the appointment has already been made 🤦🏽*♂️
