Although it hardly matters in the grand scheme of things, and even Mahmudullah would hardly have been thinking about, but in what terms was his century/innings any lesser than Shakib? I know the latter effected a run out too, but you can´t be telling me that that was the tiebreaker in deciding the award? Also, neither was Shakib´s bowling performance (52 for none in 10 overs) anything to write home about!

Again, it may hardly matter, but the accolade is there for a reason and the scorecard of any past or current match reflects one standout performer through that. Both should´ve been rewarded for such an unbelievable partnership, given especially the fact that they both played an equal role and had an equal share of the partnership at similar strike-rates.

Not only yesterday, it´s something that has been an issue even in the past. The World Cup final 2011 comes to my mind, which should´ve been split between Gambhir and Dhoni.

As I raised the point in another thread some time ago, another problem with these awards is that they heavily favour batsmen, especially a century-maker. Often, instead of recognising the hard-work of a bowler who´s taken three or four wickets on a bowlers´ graveyard, a batsman making a century on a batting paradise is preferred. Occasionally at least they could think of splitting it between the two.

Regardless, wow, just wow Bangladesh! I love the fighting spirit of the tigers and love their supporters too. Their amongst my favourite teams right now. On a tough-ish pitch and with so many wickets lost earlier on, many of the top teams would´ve crumbled under pressure, but it was one hell of a fightback, and one of the greatest partnerships ever in ODIs. Watching the match live, with 60-70 still to get, I told my father that Shakib may play a false shot and throw it away, Mahmudullah won´t. He was a big culprit for what happened in Bangalore a year ago and he would´ve learnt his lesson, and so it happened. Although, neither did Shakib throw it away as by then the match had been won, almost.

Nasser Hussain´s "The mighty Bangladesh" comment is etched on my memory forever.

In the 1998 Test match South Africa vs WI , South Africa won through a fantastic team effort and the adjudicators decided to award the MOM award to all 11 players

lol that's ridiculous, I can understand split MOM like ponting and Gibbs got in that epic 434 match but giving MOM to entire team is just stupid..

Cricket is a team sport team work is one of the pre requisites you can't give MOM just for team work in a team sport..

Shakib scored more runs, bowled really well in the middle overs and also affected runout of Williamson

It's a no brainer.

It's man of the match. Not men. But I get your point

Because its not men of the match award.

That´s hardly an answer or reason friends. It´s more of "Out of the box thinking" than anything else :asif. It´s like saying that Ellyse Perry can´t field at third-man because the position is for a man :yk3. It´d be literally idiotic if they don´t split it based on the linguistic value of the phrase.

As it is anyway, there´re examples of it having been shared in the past too. They just don´t do it as often as it should be done.

Funny this comes up; I specifically waited for the MOTM ceremony for this very reason (I had to go out and was getting late as a result). I genuinely believed that both would share the accolade - I thought both were deserving of the award.

Haha was just kidding :yk , don't know why they dont do it anymore.

Players of the match - PR Adams (South Africa), MV Boucher (South Africa), WJ Cronje (South Africa), DJ Cullinan (South Africa), AA Donald (South Africa), HH Gibbs (South Africa), JH Kallis (South Africa), G Kirsten (South Africa), L Klusener (South Africa), SM Pollock (South Africa) and JN Rhodes (South Africa)

That might be the one and only such incident......:angelo

Again, it should´ve been shared between Sarfraz and Amir the other day. If only one of them had to be given the award, it should´ve gone to Amir anyway. However, if Sarfraz´s work too deserved recognition, then they should´ve shared it.

you are clearly biased towards m. amir

sarfraz did deserve it, amir didn't

if it was to be shared, it should have been dickwela, sarfraz and junaid

Sarfraz did not deserve it, was dropped twice. should've been amir or even junaid over sarfraz

England splits the MoS during their home test season.

I remember a few years ago we absolutely got pounded in every game but Dravid won MoS because one from each team had to get it, and he batted brilliantly throughout.

I´m baffled by this to be honest. The only person here who´s being biased here is obviously not me.

at 161/3 in around 31 overs, when Sri Lanka were looking on course for a 280+ plus score, a Pakistan-proof score, Amir struck and removed the two highest scorers of the innings, Matthews for 39 and Dickwella for 73. Then when Sarfraz kept running out of partners, Amir, who´s not a designated batsman, joined him to put in a valuable contribution of 28 - not to forget, a chance-less innings full of calm and composure.

Amir deserved it equally, if not more, for an all-round display. But of course, Sarfraz alone was preferred since he´d passed the magic number of 50. Once you do that, or get past the 100-run mark and end up on the winning side, you´re very, very likely to get a preferential treatment as far as the Man of the Match award is concerned.

first of all junaid was the one who started putting pressure on the lankan batsmen and thats how resulted in amir's wickets, amir clearly struggled to bowl even economically in second spell until junaid bowled those three brilliant deliveries

when it comes to sarfraz, he not only scored crucial runs, but also took a brilliant catch which resulted in amir's wicket

so it was not only amir which showed all round performance

No, Sri Lanka were well placed (for a 280+ score) at 161/3 in 31 overs and both Matthews and Dickwella were the set batsmen and looking good for big ones. Amir came back to dismiss both to hand the advantage to Pakistan. It´s as simple as that, unless you´ve watched the telecast of another match.

when it comes to sarfraz, he not only scored crucial runs, but also took a brilliant catch which resulted in amir's wicket

And also dropped a catch of Gunaratne off Amir´s bowling, was himself dropped twice and provided a zillion run out opportunities to the Sri Lankan fielders. :najam

I´m not here being critical of Sarfraz´s performance. You´re literally dragging things to that level.

so it was not only amir which showed all round performance

He was. No other tailender batted like him that day, not to forget his bowling.

if not for those dropped catches, pakistan wont have won and tail would ave crumbled without sarfraz

lets agree to disgree

i dont think amir deserved the MoM and i have already stated my reasoning how sarfraz was crucial in winning pak match against srilanka

have a good day
