To be very honest I'm really surprised to see the knowledge of members in this forum. I can't believe people r so passionate & discuss things very minutely. No rubbish comments. I think PCB should follow this forum very seriously. I was reading one thread regarding Babar Azam. People were demanded his inclusion since long may be from 2012. But I want to know one thing from members why Umar Akmal could not find a place at no.3 or made to open.he was treated very harshly by selectors & captains. I remember he was the only shining star in batting in last Aus Nz series . His average & strike rates are very decent as per pakistani std despite batting at no.6

Umar will get his chance hopefully.

He's still our best LOI bat - his performances have been good too, but not that great in terms of consistency.

At his worst, he's still better than most in the LOI team. The likes of Rizwan, Imad Wasim (batsman), Sarfraz, Saad Nasim, Malik, Shehzad -- these are all a total shame in LOIs.

In a team of one dimensional players, it is about time he is given a second chance in test cricket.

Nope. Hos cousin is by far our best LOI batsmen.

Lack of vision & batting culture - what one can expect from Misbah, Afridi, Azhar type Captain & complementing selectors, coaching staffs.

Now, Arthur can't do much unless PCB sacks Azhar - he'll not drop Sharjeel or Babar from their spot to accommodate someone in top 3; neither his professionalism will allow him to say anything against his ODI captain. If it was at his hand, one of the Akmals would have opened with Sharjeel in LO format, from WI series & Azhar knocking against bowling machine at NCA Lahore, preparing for ANZ tour.

During ENG ODI series, I wrote something regarding Arthur's backing of Azhar as ODI Captain - 4 months down the line, PCB Chairman indicated that, probably I wasn't wrong.

Gross injustice against the most Talented Young Asian Batsman of last 10 Years who had the potential to become the next Viv.

PCB are worst at grooming talented Youngsters.

Take the easier route out and blame the PCB.

The simple answer is Umar doesn't work hard and has poor ethics, don't want a joker like Umar anywhere near the side.

The biggest argument is that he can't "rebuild" an innings and that he is a "finisher", but those are contrary to what the stats say.

If you look at all the 50+ runs he has scored - 17 out of the 22 have been scored when he has had 25+ overs to bat, meaning he does better when he has time to bat and rebuilding isn't an issue for him.

Only 5 out of 22 times he has managed to score 50+, when Pak are well set and needing a blitz from Akmal, but those numbers will tell you he is most likely to fail and disappoint at the end.

Basically, he is the opposite of those popular opinions.

He should be given a chance in the test team after Misbah/Younis retirements. Team should look like this:

1. Azhar Ali
2. Sami Aslam
3. Babar Azam
4. Umar Akmal
5. Haris Sohail
6. Asad Shafiq
7. Sarfaraz
8. Yasir shah/Gohar
9. Amir
10. Hassan Ali
11. Mir Hamza

Umar is too brainless for tests, but i can''t believe he hasn't given a run in the top 3 in odi's

Sharjeel
Umar Akmal
babar Azam
Harris
Sarfaraz
Imad
Umar Amin

This should be top 7 for CT .

Because he doesn't fit the description of the kind of batsman Misbah wants in his side. If Umar was the kind of batsman who strives to have a strike rate of under 30 then he would have easily made it to Misbah's XI.

I hope he never plays for Pakistan again...Is not good enough to even represent the 'A' team !!

What??? Umar was part of the team when Misbah was captain. He was dropped after Azhar took over.

He doesn't have temperament and perseverance required for succeeding at test cricket.

I would like to see Harris and chota Akmal given another chance in the side. Hopefully, he would have learnt from his past mistakes and grown up a bit. If our middle order fails in Australia then his return has to be given serious thought.

UAkmal is still immature does not have the mental ability to play at the top of the order. He is not able to face the pressure and usually throws it away at the crucial moments so does not have the trust of the team and the captain. Really needs to work with a sports psychologist but to do that he needs to admit to himself that something is wrong with his mental game. From all his interviews over the years he has been unwilling to admit he has a problem so I don't see him being able to fix it.

If only we had invested in Haris, Fawad and Umar, instead of Azhar and Asad, we would not have been so embarassing overseas.

The guy hasn't hit a first class 100 in nearly 2 years.

Yet he should be in the test team.

Not much time left before he comes back in all formats if haris can be fit somehow we can finally get rid of yk and misbah.

A grand total of 3 hundreds in the last 6 seasons and 2 of them came in 2012.

His record after being dropped from the team.

1819 runs @ 39.54 with 3 hundreds and 12 50s.

50 innings and only 3 hundreds.

He doesnt deserve to be in the test team.

if Umar could bat longer than 50 balls then he should be in the Test team but unfortunately he can't.
