Why in our society are we so obsessed with people's economic background?

I note that whenever a person from Pakistan comes from a poor background, our press runs to somehow include this information when describing the achievements.

For example "son of a tea-seller" becomes a cricket player type headlines are normal.

What is the connection between a man's talent and what his father does for a living?

I find this so basic.

I think it is inspiring that the person achieved what he did while facing the challenges that come with poor economic background. In that way it is relevant to mention the person's economic background.

I can imagine a situation where someone becomes a CEO

In subcontinent and most of the third world countries access to world class facilities (which are needed to furnish your talent) is extremely difficult for someone who comes from a humble background unless you are one in million and a born talent but even then it would require a professional to recognize that talent , chances of which are pretty slim hence such kind of news make headlines.

Most pro athletes in US also come from dirt poor backgrounds. They all tell stories of how they were raised by her mom without any father and how bad the neighborhoods were.

These stories are for inspiring poor people to become rich someday. Just to keep the hope alive.

We are talking about the West

In the East, coming from a poor background is looked down upon. I dont like to worry about where a certain person came from - my concern is about what he is doing now.
