Hello everyone,

Good day!

I was wondering if there is some insight available regarding amir bowling wide of the crease, and not close to the stumps.

It has been highlighted several times (Muhammad Asif while he was on TV, and also by some commentator in this champions trophy 17) that he can generate more swing and trouble the batsman if he were to bowl close to the stumps. I think this is the reason he hasn't been as effective as he was in the start of his career.

Is he being misguided by the bowling coach?

Is there anyway this can be shared with Muhammad Amir?

Scared of getting hit.

Getting hit? How does bowling close to the stumps increase the chances of getting hit? It would provide him more control and will make him more dangerous early on. He can bowl with old ball from wide of the crease, to bring the angle into play, but with new ball, and the top order batsmen such as indian side have, logically one should bowl close to the stumps.

I agree with you he needs to bowl at the stumps but he is going for defensive lines.

There is a reason Amir is preferred over other bowlers in our squad, and thus picked more often than not in the playing eleven. And it has lot to do with his ability to pick wickets. If he were to bowl defensive lines, than why not prefer bowlers like Rumman Raees over him? Amir needs to realize his place in the team, and the importance of it for Pakistan Cricket Team.

I remember that even Rahat Ali was getting more swing while we were playing against England & Australia, and with new ball early on even in UAE. Why this has not crossed the minds of our coaches, and the training staff is beyond me. It's so basic, and there is a reason why bowling legends ask rookies to bowl close to the stumps, and not wide of the crease.

Scared of being called for running on the pitch perhaps? It was a major issue with the Pakistani bowlers.

he is scared of running on the danger area

That seems to be the plausible cause. But again, this can be worked upon. The coaches and the training staff are there for this very reason, to work upon the techniques/tricks.

Has he ever been warned for running on the pitch during his entire career before he was booked for spot-fixing? If not, then why is that a concern now?

I don't seem to recall him having trouble with danger area ever before he was caught in spot-fixing.

He didnt use to bowl that close to the stumps before the ban either , look at his bowling in the last test match before the ban.

and almost the same width from the stumps after his return

He probably feels comfortable bowling away from the stumps. The fact is, he's lost his swing after the ban and only gets swing in conditions that are extremely helpful.

Staying far behind the crease is costing him,he will be much more explosive if he sort out his mental block.

It's mostly due to the ball's quality or lack of in this case.
