Why is PCB so poor in talent identification and why they keep on ignoring the young talent?
Be it Usman Khan, Abid Ali, Zulfiqar Babar or any other cricketer why he needs to prove himself around the world before getting selected for team Pakistan in his late 20s or early 30s. Why can't PCB identify the talent early.
Why the players like Imran Tahir, Sami Aslam had to switch countries for the appreciation of their talents?
And why is PCB so reluctant to afford early chances to youngsters like Arafat Minhas, Saad Baig, Mohammad Huraira, Mehran Mumtaz and Mohammad Haris?
Why are PCB so obsessed with old horses and why can't they train the young ones to seal the deal for them?
Because PCB doesn't know how to identify talents and even when they do, they have no idea as to how to even build a team.
Pcb needs to view itself as a talent management business. In every product life cycle their are multiple stages
- Introductory stage: Where sales are slow and not much progress is made, in cricket terms this can be viewed as a player debut, Look at gilchrist for example or Dhoni, they didn't exactly kick off in their first few games either.
- Growth stage: This is the second stage where the product starts to grow and whike the product may stumble here and their but if grown properly it'll keep going up and up. In cricket terms this can be viewed as a player rising and improving game by game.
- Peak stage: a player reaches his peak or at the prine of his career.
- decline stage: the product isn't what it once was and is at the end, in cricket terms, aka close to the end of their career.
Pcb doesn't understand this, For the people they don't like such as usman khan, Sami aslam or imran tahir it's
A) Make your debut and automatically hit peak stage or Instantly enter decline stage and be discarded.
But for the people they like and love
It's endless upon endless chances, and it's not even fair merits. Rizwan does whatever he wants and so does babar?
Let's analyse our team.
1) Babar (Solid no 3 accumulator and shpuld be the talent for odi and test as a player and must be persisted with)
Pcb: Let's make him a captain even though he's unqualified and allow him to do whatever he wants such as t20 opening, even though he's not a t20 opener.
2) Rizwan (Gun keeper and good test overseas sena player)
Pcb: let's make hin director of a talent agency, have him open in t20 and bat at no 4 in odi, even though he's clearly limited for those formats.
3) Fakhar (Gun opener in white ball and must be groomed and persisted with)
Pcb: Well he's not working in t20, so let's insta send him to the decline stage, press the panic button, and go all the way to no 4 in t20, oh let's drop him from test as well, that'll really amp his confidence.
4) Naseem Shah (Gun bowler and once in a generational talent, with his line and length and his ability to take wickets oer game, can be groomed with his peak stage being the Glenn mcgrath of Pakistan)
Pcb: Let's play him in every game, no rest until he either dies on the battlefield or gets injured for life, oh and if he does get injured make sure theirs a 90% chance of misdiagnosing his injury as well so he never returns.
^^ I can go on and on but you get the point, They can't even properly identify the strengths and weaknesses of their current pool?
