Why is Sarfraz Ahmed so atrocious at batting with the tail?

ive noticed that a lot of the time Sarfraz exposes our tailenders especially 10 and 11 to way too much of the strike often ending up Not Out after our tailenders have succumbed. Now this might be a ploy to instill confidence in these guys but they are just arent good enough to bat for long periods and face a high volume of bowling. Sarfraz should be shepherding the strike to prolong our innings. His approach batting with the tail leaves a lot to be desired.

He is doing a goo job. Him and Azhar are the only two established batsmen with guts.

Na misbah did the same in the first test.

Batting with the tail isnt easy. So you gotta respect whatevrr the last batsmen decided to do with the tail

He has turned down maybe 10 runs because of the non-striker. He is bound to get criticized either way. Some people will say he shouldn't expose the tail while others will say that he shouldn't leave runs out in the middle.

Only thing that matters is the end result and he has put on 30 runs with Abbas which means he has gotten some success from his methods.

He's an exceptional batsmen in the lower order, our tail is pretty weak but he still manages to score consistently with them. He's easily one of the best wicketkeeper batsmen in test cricket right now, if he was on England batting with their tail, he would definitely be considered the best wicketkeeper batsmen in the world.

Why is Misbah so bad at batting with proper batsmen?

Superb innings.

He's made it look like a difefrent match compared to the other batsmen.

He's a very smart cricketer. Some Pakistani fans are too harsh on him. Clearly your second best test and ODI batsman.

Steve Waugh method of batting with the tail was to just bat normally, not everyone shields tailenders and farms the strike.

Misbah during his 99* shielded the tail from Gabriel, who was the dangerman, and let them face the other bowlers leading to confused PPers vaccilating between praise and horror.

There's no proven 'correct' way to bat with numbers 9 and 10, as long as we keep scoring runs then I'm not going to complain.

Brilliant 50 from Sarfaraz, at 74 SR while batting for most of his innings with tailenders

My god, is it asking too much for a tailender to bat a dozen or so deliveries ?

Nobody is telling them to deliver a Brian Lara in Bridgetown 1999 special.

You look at England's or India's tailenders and they guarantee you at least an extra 30-35 runs. In Pakistan we can't even guarantee they'll hold the bat properly.

Lol what? he's the best in this team at doing it and quite good in the world as well.

Shafiq has been better throughout his career than Sarfraz but this innings (unlike the last) he has recognised the importance of taking more balls and not giving the strike too early to the tail enders. Thats a good sign.

You have to take the good with the bad. Sarfraz can be frustrating at times because he often fails to convert into something big, which became a problem for Pakistan on our tours last year, but his good dwarfs his bad. His energetic innings are vital for this team of tottering zombies. His 50 (70) are worth more than the 80 (200) type performances.

Over 200 Test runs at an average of over 40 and people are still not happy.

Good post. And exactly what i wanted to say.

There isnt a one proper method of batting with tail.

Sometimes you pull it off some times you cant

rather feels he should be batting higher up in the order

At 4 and 5, I would rather have batsmen who can consistently bat at a SR 50 like all the serious batsmen in the world do. The likes of Haris etc. can do that job. Asking Sarfraz to bat in the middle-order, keep and lead the team is a bit too much to ask for. He is fine in the lower-order, and his innings will be more valuable if we can find some real batsmen for the middle-order.
