Why the Asia Cup should be scrapped

As the title says, it’s time to end this cup forever. There is too much toxicity between the neighbors and cricket in such circumstances is just not possible. Also, the cricket in the cup itself is pretty bland & the games are very boring (we all saw what happened in the last Asia cup and this one - the gulf between India & the rest of the teams is just too wide), so it is not a great miss if this cup doesn’t happen.

Honestly, high time that ICC has some exit clause written in for such tournaments - teams forced to play in such vitiating circumstances only for the sake of financial penalties is just not right. Sport then takes a backseat to unavoidable nationalistic shenanigans & political posturing which defeats the whole purpose of such pan-Asian games.

This cup should never have been revived. Let’s end it once and for all.

Agreed. I am fine with the tournament existing, but Bharat needs to opt out of all future iterations of this flop show.

It will also be a blessing for other sides giving them a realistic chance of winning, keeping things exciting for their fans.

Not true, that test series preceded the Kargil war. Infact, relations even back then were so bad that the ODI series was scrapped and a 3 match test series was reduced to 2.

My point is that it is absolutely not true that politics can be separated from sport - we have many examples of sports and politics colliding in history including Medvedev being forced to not play under the Russian flag in the Wimbledon. This series should never have been played in the first place, nor should it be repeated again.

Or how about this, kick out ind and pak the trouble makers from rest of the gang and have a peaceful asia cup. It's less money involved but also less drama involved. These two are the most toxic countries on planet earth.

The series was in January. The war was in the summer.

India-Pak didn't play bilaterals next until 2004.

How is it punishing other teams? India can have a separate cup with other non-Pakistani Asian teams and share their revenue and so can Pakistan. As it is the cricket sucks and if the whole purpose of the tournament is cricket diplomacy, you can achieve it other ways without the melodrama.

The 2022 edition was an anomaly with both Pakistan and Sri Lanka getting the better of India at least once.

Yes and No.

I'm fine with it ending if it means we can get rid of this politics nonsense.

But if the government's can behave then I dont want it to end, asia cup is the only reason Pakistan and India get to play each other multiple times a year.

India is an entertaining team to watch for both Pakistani, Australian, English and Indian fans.

Everyone watches World cup, Wtc, Ashes BGT, AT, and Various other trophies and Pakistan vs India is still a spectacle even if the rivalry has become one sided.

But I do want it to end if this drama of Umpire bans and fuss consistently continues.
