I really hope not. Yes he is 10 times better than YK in ODIs, but that is not really an achievement.

Need to invest time in new talent or else come next world cup, we will be struggling again.

Yes. He's a good captain and a decent batsman who can stay at the crease and use his brain for a change.

All the nay Sayers and those name-calling him as Mr Damaad suddenly want him as captain.. At least shed your hypocrisy guys.. Malik should be "has been" and should not figure in future plans

Sarfraz
Hammad Azam
Wahab Riaz

Looks good.

Malik's fan base will blossom in his late 30s, just like Misbah's.

Same people dissing Misbah started calling him king after his return in 2010.

haha but i dont think so malik has that charm and hunger hes played for 10-15 yrs n on the other side misbah was still a sort of new player in 2010

all TTFS will be back in full swing Fawad and babar should be ahead of him

He is much better than a lot of players in the current team. Relatively speaking of course. He is among the fittest, can bowl 5-6 overs, can rotate the strike in the middle.

This guy was scoring at a 20 or so average for the last few years (think he's been in poor form since 2009). He was failing when others were scoring. Now he's out of the team, people expect that he'd suddenly succeed now that the rest are failing? No logic. The guy isn't the same batsman at international level anymore, doesn't play the same he looks like a tailender in the games I've seen him back. His problems are probably more mental as he's doing very well in domestic, but fact is he wasn't performing.

Time to move on from him IMO.

Kamran's the same in a way, hasn't exactly performed in chances over the recent years. But difference is he was always a 25 average batsman.

He should but it will be hard as he offended the PCB with his comments

I think if his batting clicks like it does in domestic then he should definitely take the number 5 spot and be made captain till the next world cup.

By the time of the next WC he will be nearly 40. He is poor against fast bowlers and cant really bowl at this level, so logically we will make him captain.

How could a batsman with an ODI average of 32 and a history of politics return after this major debacle world cup?

We need real talent not guys who cant bat outside the subcontinent and hardly average above 30.

Malik is a tried and tested failure, Pak should look to the future
and bring in Fawad and Baber Azam. What is Maliks average
in the last 10 odi's? I can't beleive some people want him as
captain, thats like going 10 steps backwards.

Hopefully not and never ..

Make Maqsood the odi captain or Professor and go crazy and make Alam the captain

People that want Malik back are as delusional as the people that think pak will win the cup, he is a TTF. We should take the WI route appoint a young captain (SA made smith captain when he was young 22-23 I iifc) time has come to relinquish the oldies. This alone won't change pak cricket cause you need get rid of corruption and nepotism, if these two things don't leave the PCB and the country as a whole nothing will change and ppers will continue with their daily mundane arguments.

Malik is a thousand times better than this clown :yk
Malik was as useless as yk if not more People have short memories Wasnt malik the one that didnt make a itnl 50 for several years

What did malik do in t20 world cup in sri lanka or champions trophy?

I am surprised to see the level of animosity against Malik. I know, he struggled with bat, but he is not the only who had been selected despite poor performance. In fact, compared to MoHa or Farhat, Malik hardly has got any favor. We should remember that, when MoHa was called back, he used to average 20 @ 60 SR ... he was lucky that due to isolation, PAK played lot many matches in Asia (UAE) & often against minnows.

Malik is accused of politics, but for last 2 years, Malik hadn't been part of the team, not even close to selection or part of any training program, yet we have seen what was going on regarding Captaincy, team selection, batting order in last few months. I actually believe Malik is victim of politics, he started with a fresh mind & was caught off-guard.

I don't think this animosity only is because of Malik been selected unworthy for few matches; neither because of his politics. I think, this is because of the in general mentality of sub-continent - we like to believe the social class, & often try to measure people on his pedigree. I think, majority people from large cities couldn't grasp it that a 25 years old Sialkot young-man 'll lead PAK. I mean, I have lot of friends in IND & PAK, even SRL & I have visited PAK not less than 5 times, has few friends from LUMS (& my father was the last batch CSP before independence, has lot of Pakistani friends) - I am the last person to believe that, in PAK, someone coming from Silakot 'll be politically successful in Cricket over players from Lahore, Karachi, Faislabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, even Hyderabad. PCB administration is completely Lahore, Karachi biased; probably it was Dr., Ashraf that wanted to break the strangle hold of these 2 cities, so went for a small city Captain. Second issue, I believe, most Pakistani don't like it that Malik is married to an Indian celebrity. Personally, I believe is most professional among PAK players.

Well said.

Most importantly, some ppers deliberately making it sound like he has played more than five years which is not true. The amount of matches he played in those years [2010-2014] barely cover one year. One series, and he was kicked out immediately as this became repetitive process. He didn't even has one complete year uninterruptedly let alone 5 years. Stop lying by making it sound like five years.

Misbah, Hafeez, Shehzad, U.Akmal, Afridi had five years uninterruptedly, but not Shoaib Malik. That is not best way to reach conclusion knowing he has relegated to up and down the orders consistently with few series in five years [barely cover as one year] without proper backing while former captain of T20 threw him under the train after T20 WC 2014.

It is different story that Shoaib Malik is doing amazing job in International leagues where players like Misbah, U.Akmal, Hafeez have failed miserably in one of leagues. That shows Shoaib Malik is ready to step up to the challenging tasks if backed properly like Misbah, Afridi and Hafeez. Trust me, Shoaib Malik will perform much better than all these cricketers combined. In fact, 2004-2008 is the proof of that, including his matches in overseas as well.

If he did it in the past, then he can do it again, and in fact, he will do a lot better than all these cricketers combined.

Better than those cricketers as mentioned above:

* Better tactician captain unlike Misbah
* Better at strike rotation
* Better at building innings with decent strike rate in ODI/T20
* Smart operator
* Under-pressure batsman, and accomplished at under-pressure chasing situation
* Obtained centuries in the shortest span of the career but still has more years to play
* Match-winner batsman
* Good all-rounder, best fielder, good spinner, and can handle pressure situation in fielding unlike those cricketers who drop important catches in major tournament

Why Pakistan cannot appreciate him when the whole world does? He summed it nicely in one of video-interview stating that he must have political connection with Barrack Obama, hence the international leagues pick him given the conspiracy theory in Pakistan. :jf

This. But you know us Pakistanis, we only have one card to play "Look at his last 50 games" or "he hasnt made 50 in last 20 years"

Considering the performances of Pakistani batsmen in this series so far, he will definitely be back

Can you give me the positions at which he played his last 10 ODIs?

I simply cannot forget his final run in the ODI side where he averaged in the single digits against Ban and Zim and add in the fact that the guy is always involved in team politics,I say good riddance.

no need of him, he will capt team till next WC? people always think on short term basis kindly think on long term planning, map out suitable way for Next Wc, bring new players, new capt.

Why is this even a question, vis a vis why is there even an outlet and a chance of him coming back to the team?

Damaged goods.

I would like Sarfaz if he keeps improving, Junaid is an option but injuries are big problem but if the choice was between Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, Hafeez is better in all depts and the better option.

We need to create a new team and start from scratch. Not invite a 33 year back into the team who has been known to create divisions within the players.

The last decade was horrible for PCB. Let's move forward with new players, new talent and new approach.

I wouldnt mind....but something about that Australian defeat changed my mind.
I like Malik, because he is not a bottler like Hafeez, but perhaps we need a clean break from the past.
