Cases of Covid are now rising in India, yet ICC is not backing down and would most likely allow the tournament to be held.

Covid has direct effect on your lungs and treatment could result in taking steroids that results in your body storing fat.

If Players are to get Covid, would ICC be responsible, as they are trying to get the tournament held in a country which is not safe for health reasons

The tournament is still six months away. Anything can happen in between. May be IPL’s successful completion will give you a clear picture.

You could have people getting it left, right and centre but the tournament will go ahead. The ICC have no power

6 months away, but a tournament needs to be shifted now if cases get out of control

What a dumb question by the OP. Is the ICC officially responsible for Covid Outbreaks in ICC officiated matches throughout the world?

Many players are right now in India, playing the IPL, have they raised this question?

Every cricketer/ official in WC will be vaccinated long before the start of WC, so this kind of argument is stupid to begin with.

One or two players is one thing, they will surely have plans in place for that. For a potential outbreak to take place however will be 100% on the shoulders of the ICC.

What if they make them sign to say we aint liable.

It’s an ICC event and no such contract( or wavier) would deem fit in court. ICC can’t shift blame or responsibility on others and yet expects to make money from an event.

I believe one of the two things would happen

1) Either ICC mandates all participants to be vaccinated
Or
2) Event to be moved to backup location( maybe UAE) or postponed it indefinitely.

IPL will definitely give us better idea.

They're waiting on IPL to conclude before making any comments or changes about the World Cup

From the last peak cases reduced drastically in next 4 months. We have the second wave peak now plus record vaccinations so the cases are likely to again go down in next 4 months

What if players dont want to take the vaccine ?

What if players dont want to take the vaccine ?

Then players have to let go of the chance to be part of team. Remember post covid almost every countries will have vaccine requirements for travel purposes. Players won’t be exempted to those rules in future. Sooner or later everyone who wish to travel for whatever reason will be required to carry proof of vaccination. So, why not get vaccinated now?

Chances are most players will be vaccinated by then. Maybe not in Australia though with the colossal mess up that the government has made of the vaccine rollout so far

IPL will give clear picture if it's feasible to organize WCT20 in India.

However, will ICC be responsible if tournament is shifted somewhere else and few players still get the virus during tournament?

Yes defonitely everyone will have to get vaccinated hopefully the world cup does happen and noone gets corona whilst in India

Even if the rate of vaccination is not ramped up further, we should comfortably see herd immunity being reached in the next 6 months with over 70% population vaccinated.

So, this should not at all be a concern.

Well than IPL got suspended, what about the world t20?

Of course not - BCCI will have explained the risks to all and if they still go to India then its their choice.

There is high likelihood that the tournament will be shifted to UAE.

Not if India have anything to say about it.

At this point i imagine UAE will be Plan B but remain firmly as a back up until it becomes absolutely implausible that India can host it at home.

We have already seen how the BCCI operate and that is to place profits above everything else. They will not give up the WT20 unless they are essentially forced to do so. With that we can expect them to wait out the COVID situation rather than hastily agree to move it to the UAE even if it makes perfect sense to at this point.

It will move to UAE IMO. Wait for some time before the announcement comes.

I think world t20 this year not gonna happen. What is next? Double bio secure bubble? Of course not.

It’s far far away. Covid in India will be settled by then. And if it’s not then India is screwed

Sadly no.

Not all Covid vaccines are equal.

Herd immunity can only be reached with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which work in 94% and 93% of people.

AstraZeneca, commonly used in India and the UK, only works in 62% of cases. You would have to vaccinate 113% of your population to reach herd immunity. (And it only works in 6% of cases of the South African variant).

The Chinese Sinopharm vaccine used in Pakistan only works in 50% of cases. Imran Khan caught Covid in spite of taking it, and you would need to vaccinate 140% of your population to reach herd immunity.

Not all vaccines are equal. And the vaccines used in India and Pakistan are less equal than others!

You citing Imran Khan in this post shows the depth of you cluelessness.

Imran Khan got diagnosed with covid one day after the FIRST shot. Vaccines have proper effect 2 weeks after the second shot

They will have to finalize the country where it will be held by around June to have sufficient time to prepare for the event. With the current state of affairs I am not sure there would be as much improvement June with regards to covid in India that ICC can safely opt for it.

Yes BCCI does have a say but, when it comes to any chance of the whole tournament being jeopardized I am pretty sure India being the host and ICC will be on the same page. India will still be able to earn the revenue as a host and UAE will just be used as a venue. So BCCI would want to make sure that whole tournament takes place without any issue and to be honest that should be their priority for their own sake as well.

nope

even with vaccine you can get covid

No one has left.

What's the update?

To me BCCI should be responsible.

1) They did not want to switch the event when Australia's numbers have been much better for over a year. Everyone knows that.

2) They were insistent on hosting this tournament after cornering the market. They hosted in 2016. In reality, West Indies or South Africa are probably due to host this tournament but the game was robbed.

They are shameful like those of the ESL league. They should bore the brunt. #IPhaiL

BCCI Board member (in ANI) said "We will be taking a call on the T20 World Cup by July, confident that situation will improve and World Cup will go ahead in India as planned".

'If it's going to be a drain on resources, or not safe, then it's not right to play T20 World Cup in India': Pat Cummins

The suspension of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League mid-season due to the surge in Covid-19 cases inside the bio-bubble has raised speculations regarding the shifting of the World T20 venue from India to the UAE. The tournament, which is set to place in October-November this year, is slated to take place in India.

But as per reports, a third wave is expected to hit India around the same time, and there are doubts whether it would be possible to hold the ICC marquee event in the country.

In a recent interview with Indian Express, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that it is too early to take a call on the subject when he was asked about the same.

Now, while speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins too, agreed that it is too early to take a call on shifting the venue of the ICC tournament.

“It probably too early to say. It’s six months away. The priority should be for cricket authorities to work with the Indian government to see what’s best for the Indian people,” Cummins said.

It's not happening in India for sure. My guess it'll be organized in some other country by BCCI.
