Would Vernon Philander's second innings spell against Australia rank amongst the best of all time?

On the final day of the 4th test between Australia and South Africa of the recently concluded series Vernon Philander launched a blitzkreig rarely witnessed in test cricket. In matter of a few overs he skittled through the Australian batting order like rolling pins falling. No doubt Australia were heading towards inevitable doom nut no cricketing pundit could have envisaged such a stunning collapse or capitulation ,reminscent of grass being mowed down. One got memories of a western film with a cowboy mowing down his rivals with his pistol. To me it was fast-medium bowling skill at it's supreme depth blending control with bounce and movement.I would love to repeatedly watch this spell of Philander .He literally ripped through the belly of a beast.

I may rank it amongst the best 2nd inings spells of all time.

Bob Willis 8-43 as Australia chased 130 and fell nineteen runs short.

For me it's Fanie de Villiers 6-43, defending a total of 116 against Australia in Australia, to win the match by 5 runs.

lol no.

Aussies had given up and wanted to go home.

If we are gonna call this an ATG spell, then we might as well hail Chris Jordan too for skittling India out with his dibbly dobbly bowling in the 5th test in 2014.

He looked like second coming of Akram during that test

No, but I'm glad he did.
Rabada is out for three months. Had he bowled any further maybe he'd be out for the year.

Rabada should remember that as the spell that saved his career. Hopefully he'll be fit for Lanka, maybe it's a blessing in disguise that we're only playing two Tests there. Still a disgrace though. In any case Rabada should come home after the Test series for proper rest.

No way.
1) Ambrose 8 for 45 in windies' 1990 test win over England.
2) Ambrose 6 for 34 in beating south Africa in Barbados 1992
3) Ambrose 6 for 24 against England chasing just 140 in 1994
(Now you know why my DP is what it is).

In other countries
1) Waqar n Wasim skittling kiwis for 93 when chasing 127 in the Hamilton test in 1992

2) fanie devilliers 6 for 43 in Sydney 1995

3) Akhtar 5 for 43 against south Africa in Durban 1998

4) Ryan Harris underrated 4 for 25 in that epic comeback in Capetown 2014

5) Philander himself 5 for 21 bowling Oz out for 47 to win the test

6) Warne so many times

7) bhajji's 7 and 8 wicket hauls on the 5th day in that epic series in 2001 vs Australia

Too many to list.
